Great video. Really useful tip. The felt you have in description is £48 with a few weeks wait time. Any recommendations on which other ones to go for which has the right thickness and won’t put too much pressure on screen when slotted in ? Thanks

I am a brand new switch oled owner and die this trick but found out its quite snugg now is that an problem for a switch and will it be even snugger when i apply a screen protector?
Glass screen protector.....thats all you need.....also the docks only scratched it hard cause the early Docks where slightly broken look up the penny test and switch docks
Obviously use a screen protector but the docks will still scratch a new OLED due to the plastic screen protector they apply from the factory to prevent the glass shattering.
I did this hack although it is very protective it does make it a little more difficult to get the switch in and out. The only other thing I am worried about is if it will affect airflow in the dock? Have you had any issues with the switch overheating because of this?
That just depends on the thickness of the felt used, if anything I prefer the slightly snugger fit and it will compress over time. It can't affect airflow of the Switch if you've left the airflow holes open.
Ah I didn't actually get it from there, just put that to help others choose something similar. Any will do though as long as it has an adhesive sticky back, that's all that matters 😁 I bought a single sheet of it from a local craft store.
Hello! First of all, thanks for the advice! As soon as I put my OLED Switch on the dock and it mades a mini scratch on a 9H tempered glass that I bought, I saw the need for something like this, it works like silk, nothin scratched anymore, but, the problem is, when I go to charge it in the dock, I've been noticing that it gets hot For example I just charged it from 13% to 55% and it's really hot, idk if it's normal or it's because my house it's hot in summer here in Spain (Between 82F and 86F), but it's concerns me because even the fans doesn't sound (or at least i doesn't hear it) So... thinking... could be that the sheet of felt it's blocking the vents making it difficult the Switch to breathe? I placed it on all 4 sides at 6.5 mm if my memory doesn't fail, but I think that the way the ventilation ducts are placed, it should not block them Is it normal that get hot when it get charged? Or depends of the seasons of the year, the % of battery to charge, etc? Thanks in advance!
That'll be down to the crazy heat waves we're having currently worldwide. Providing you've put the strips of fabric where I did in the video that will not block the intakes or exhaust on the Switch, so that won't be the cause. It is normal for any device to get hot as its charged up but the season definitely makes it even hotter currently!
but why only on the corners? why not put felt on the entire part were the Switch's Screen will be? 🤔 is it wider there? is it just the corners that are tight? forgive me but i have never taken out the dock on mine, never. it is still in the box, in its bag.😂 i always only use my switch either handheld mode or tabletop mode.
Oh no! Sorry to hear that 😭 but don't worry just yet!! Is it light scratches on the screen from the dock? What I recommend you do is get a tempered glass screen protector and install it ASAP! The adhesive and glass from the protector will actually get rid of the scratches visibly, so you won't see them anymore. I've bought countless used old handheld consoles (like Playstation Vita's, DS, 3DS etc) that have had light or moderate scratched screens, installed glass screen protectors and they look brand new :) It sounds silly but it's worked for me time after time! Give it a try and let us know how you get one :)
Not entirely sure, I wouldn't have thought it matters because thicker felt should just make it a little more snug and probably compress a bit over time

Can’t felt scratch your dock bc it looks like velcro to me
If I'm going to use a dockable grip protector on the Switch OLED will this hack cause problems by making the dock too tight? Thanks
I've had no issues docking my switch with dockable grips installed using this method :)
Can someone share a link for a good screen protector
Much appreciated
This is what we use :) geni.us/gAHo62i

Ahahahaha!!!
Does it not get walm were the felt is ? Pushing against it
I am a brand new switch oled owner and die this trick but found out its quite snugg now is that an problem for a switch and will it be even snugger when i apply a screen protector?
I use a screen protector always, it's snug but that's not a problem
Glass screen protector.....thats all you need.....also the docks only scratched it hard cause the early Docks where slightly broken look up the penny test and switch docks
Obviously use a screen protector but the docks will still scratch a new OLED due to the plastic screen protector they apply from the factory to prevent the glass shattering.
Found this video because my switch got a slight scratch on the protective film very easy to get scratched
What piece of felt to you buy on that website as there is so many
Ah I didn't actually get it from there, just put that to help others choose something similar. Any will do though as long as it has an adhesive sticky back, that's all that matters 😁 I bought a single sheet of it from a local craft store.
So if there is a tiny rubber thingy on both side of the dock I don’t need to do this?
Hello! First of all, thanks for the advice! As soon as I put my OLED Switch on the dock and it mades a mini scratch on a 9H tempered glass that I bought, I saw the need for something like this, it works like silk, nothin scratched anymore, but, the problem is, when I go to charge it in the dock, I've been noticing that it gets hot
For example I just charged it from 13% to 55% and it's really hot, idk if it's normal or it's because my house it's hot in summer here in Spain (Between 82F and 86F), but it's concerns me because even the fans doesn't sound (or at least i doesn't hear it)
So... thinking... could be that the sheet of felt it's blocking the vents making it difficult the Switch to breathe?
I placed it on all 4 sides at 6.5 mm if my memory doesn't fail, but I think that the way the ventilation ducts are placed, it should not block them
Is it normal that get hot when it get charged? Or depends of the seasons of the year, the % of battery to charge, etc?
Thanks in advance!
That'll be down to the crazy heat waves we're having currently worldwide. Providing you've put the strips of fabric where I did in the video that will not block the intakes or exhaust on the Switch, so that won't be the cause. It is normal for any device to get hot as its charged up but the season definitely makes it even hotter currently!
but why only on the corners?
why not put felt on the entire part were the Switch's Screen will be? 🤔
is it wider there? is it just the corners that are tight?
forgive me but i have never taken out the dock on mine, never. it is still in the box, in its bag.😂
i always only use my switch either handheld mode or tabletop mode.
Mine has OLED grip case, and it's already tight when I put in the dock. Do you think it will be more tighter when I do this ?
Slightly yeah but should still be ok if the felt is thin enough, it'll just compress the felt
this is a great idea
It's so quick, easy and cheap to do! Works great too 😁
Nice tips
Where do you buy that sticker felt thing what's it called? 🤔
Link in description :D
Mine already got scratched 🥺😭😭😭. Not sure how. Help!
I've bought countless used old handheld consoles (like Playstation Vita's, DS, 3DS etc) that have had light or moderate scratched screens, installed glass screen protectors and they look brand new :)
It sounds silly but it's worked for me time after time! Give it a try and let us know how you get one :)
SAMEEE i cant even see it tho its very smalll but its bugging me
@@128KB tyyy i did that now
@@pxrveer7597 works doesn't it! Glad you've sorted it! I may have to do a video about it 🤔
@@128KB yes please!!!
instead of doing this DIY hack can u just just a sleeve from Esty and would it do the same thing?
Yep you can do that but it'll be more expensive, only protect the front and look like you've got a sock on the Dock 🤣
I have a question, how thick is the felt you used for the mod? Is it 0.1mm or 0.2mm?
Not entirely sure, I wouldn't have thought it matters because thicker felt should just make it a little more snug and probably compress a bit over time
It matters cus mine got stuck in the dock 😅
what felt did you end up using? 1mm or 2mm?
Where can I find some of this felt? I’m about to buy an OLED and would like to not have any scratches lol

@@128KB oops, the one time I don’t look in the description… thanks
Hi on Etsy they are selling dock socks from active patch have a look see if you think they would work the meant stop your screen from scratching
Yep, those work fine too, they're easier to install too but generally more expensive than this solution :)
@@128KB so is it worth getting one then or is Velcro better for screen protector
@@ajackson-ross7295 the socks are definitely worth getting and they can look cool too! This is just a good alternative for those that don't want to spend as much
I used the wrap the dock came in and cut it with sum sharp used a pin then had to tap it down not pretty but It was free
Would it work if i just put a hat on the second half of the dock so its doesn't scratch the screen.
Good tip 👍
Thank you!
i found a sheet of soft adhesive foam and think it feels softer and has padding like nerf foam.
Thanks a bunch mate.. When I did this the switch would not pull outvthe dock without holding down the dock, it makes outting the switch and out far more tricky and higher risk of damaging it, i used 1.2mm felt hardly that thick, but its too thick, now when removing this thick felts its leaving a right mess. Bad instructions.... Mate.
Does work doing that if you use the grop
What do you mean? For grips that you can dock too? Not entirely sure as I don't have any grips that dock at the same time sadly!
@@128KB sorry internet went off yes I’ve bought Velcro but know if to sick it on as order skull&co crystal grip I was asking if it would still dock if I put that on aswell as the grip
@@ajackson-ross7295 Not entirely sure, providing the felt is thin enough it should be fine but without testing it I don't know. You can always try it and if it doesn't fit then remove the felt :)
Can it be removed in case you to send it for repair?
Yeah, it's only sticky felt, it just peels off
do i really need to worry about doing both rails inside of the dock if my nintendo oled is mainly going to be docked most of the time?
It's up to you really, still a chance of it scratching even if you don't remove it often, only takes one time for it to potentially scratch!
@@128KB so lets say if i apply the felt mostly regards to the front at least, i shouldn't have any worries then
@@robertlyons9646 Yeah that should be good enough protection :)
Brilliant 🤩
Thank you! 😁 It works great too, been using this method since 2017 and works great!
Which felt did u buy is there a certain thickness as I’m like u don’t want it marked if so can you show me which felt u bought plz
@@ajackson-ross7295 any felt will do that has an adhesive back to stick it to the dock. The felt just covers the plastic so it doesn't scratch, the thickness doesn't matter really provided you don't get really thick stuff otherwise you might not be able to get your switch in the dock haha.
Unfortunately, I can't show you what I bought because it was from a local craft shop, not online.
Soooo your destroying the dock? That sticky adhesive is gonna mess up the paint job
Paint job? It's coloured plastic, not paint.
I have no idea how but my white oled dock got stained black and it won’t come off !!!! I wonder if it has something to do with the voltage attracting dust 🤨 it was literally perfect one night and then so dirty in the morning after I played it for hours
That's incredibly random
Too late, I wish I could get rid of all the scratches on the back of my switch
😢
