Gina, there are so many scammers out there. You must be careful going to the bank these days. I am afraid to go to the ATM because I am now on a cane. You must go to the ATM inside the bank and be very careful of your surroundings. The theived are not only trying to scam you they also are waiting for you to leave the bank once you leave the bank. Please be careful out their we are all a target to crime.
Gina sorry that happened. This is being done frequently here in California. These thieves use something called a “skimmer”. They put something in the card reader after someone has used it at the ATM or gas station and it picks up the card number. I use online banking and I have a second authentication on my account and an alert if an unrecognizable device is trying to access my account. It literally locks my account if the access is incorrect. God Will restore whatever was lost. ❤

This happened to me once when I used my debit card to purchase something on the internet. After discussing the matter with the bank, they advised me to get another card just for shopping and transfer monies from one card to the other so that your main card would not be compromised. I did get my money back from the bank, thank God🙏. Sorry about your dad 😔 I meant to post this on the main feed

I've heard of this happening and it's scary. I'm sorry that it happened to your Dad. I bank at a Credit Union and they notified me that someone tried to use my card number but they caught it before any purchases were made.
It is called a skimmer device that reads and scans your card. They will even place them inside any banking institution when the tellers or employees are not watching them. These thieves don't care. It is all about not getting caught. It happened to me 2 months ago. To this day and moving forward, I don't feel comfortable because it was inside my banking institution where the device was founded. Yes, I got reimbursed of all my money that was stolen from me. It is an uncomfortable feeling that I get every time I use my card.
I only use my card at my banking institution and pay cash for all my purchases when I am out and about in the shopping centers. I will not say that this situation does not happen anyplace else, but it happens to me that my bank.

Hello Gina! Scammers put a camera and a card scanner over the ATM's card reader. When you insert your card, your really putting it in the scammer's device. When you do that a camera takes a picture of your card. I'm a police officer from South Carolina and have worked cases like this. The suspects are usually from all over the world!
This happened to me at Walmart. I check my account daily and I noticed $15k was missing. I almost fainted when I saw my money gone. Thank God I got my money back. I'm so sorry this happened to your dad.

Hi Gina, I'm so sorry about what your dad experienced. I will start checking my balances daily or as much as I can. I even stopped using my cards whenever I purchase food via drive-thru. I don't trust the cashiers. They can easily take your card and snap photos of the front and back of your credit/debit cards.

I immediately called my brother and told him to keep 👀 on his bank. And I have gone back to cash and carry and for online I use reloadable card that I load $ onto and use. His Kroger card is not connected to his bank account. You load the amount of money you want on the card and once thats gone they can't get any more money. I had an Emerald card from Block and it worked the same way. I used that at restaurants, gas stations etc. Plus you can always use a credit card at the restaurant or service station.

It's so sad that people are always scamming, to take what someone else worked for. But someday they will get their payback. Yes that's been happening for a while now. Thieves attach "scanners" to the ATM machine that will record all the information from the ATM card. Those scanners also being attached to where you enter your ATM card at the gas pump.
The EXACT same thing happened to someone I know. She works at a bank. I'm not sure if it's the same one. It took about two weeks for the investigation, before she was refunded/resolved.
I have used my card online to pay my bills. I do online banking. They have gotten it my bank account doing small transactions, but like you said, I check my account every day, so I catch them. They tried to make a large transactions, but the bank saw it and locked my card. They canceled the card and sent me a new one, a new number. So, really, you just have to be careful. I have a good bank that is on it. I have my computer with Norton. They still get through. So, to pay my bills and make transactions at stores online, I put money on Cash App or PayPal. We just have to keep track of our accounts. The bank need to sweep these ATMs for card readers and cameras because if you offer outside ATM's inside or out, it is their responsibility to protect the customers. Your accountant was probably talking about a card that can be loaded as a prepay card, but that is a lot of trouble. I'd definitely have more than one card, especially if you travel. (That was a big scam I had heard about before and there are lots of them right now and will prob get worse. (Not being negative, but just telling it the way it is).
This happened to me, I was in a clothing store and they had that device on the store card reader. I have my account set up where I have a cash limit I can withdrawn from the ATM, I found out because an hour after leaving clothing store I got an alert that someone tried to take more then my daily cash amount out and on the 3rd try the bank locked my account. I'm so grateful I had that cash limit on my account and I still have it today.

It is a piece that fits where your card goes. When your card is scanned it copies onto that piece. We had a trouble with this in Virginia and Tennessee. They told us it is a piece that if you try to pull on it it will come out. So we check gas stations or wherever we have to use our card. Whoever the card is with, you call call them about fraud and they can get your money back.
Gina, there is always something going on. It is not safe anymore. I had heard that you say go in the gas station to pay for gas there is a little card or a type of machine that is loose and it's it's shaky and they are reading your card that way. Is concealed somewhere under the machine or whatever? But I was advised to not pay at the pump go in the gas station and even if you carry a card in a wallet, some equipment can read it through your wallet. So you have to get a card that will protect against that. It is crazy. I'm glad that you are spreading awareness so people will know.

Oh bless your dad, I've had my bank account hacked 3 times, and this happened during my grandfather's funeral, started from a gas station ,but the bank did a search on transactions and found it was not my fault, I now have my account flagged so that if any amount over a certain limit, I get a text from my bank and all my reciepts also get texted and alerts are sent to me so he may want to check with the back and set up alert notifications or calls so he can be alerted for actions he doesn't normally do on a day to day basis.
This has been on world news before telling people to beware of getting money from ATM machines. I've started going inside the bank. Beware of using credit cards out & at gas places when buying gas.

All of my savings was stolen too. I moved and several months later I had to get my car fixed. I tried to get get money from my savings and all of my money was gone except 50 dollars. Now, the bank won't return all of the money. Still missing almost 5 thousand dollars. I was so angry that I got so mad that the bank called the police on me. At first I didn't know what happened until I realized that one of the movers must have found a old check in my belongings. A lot of this is happening. I had to get a loan to pay for food and medicine. All of my teacher retirement money was stolen, plus social security benefits too. Thanks for sharing! A lot of banks won't return all the money to people. They blame the customer. I took the rest of my money out of South State. One fellow at the bank in South Carolina was rude to me and said that they were not going to press charges because they were not defrauded. Then, they refused to verify my cashier's check for another financial institution when I took my money out. Just the other day South State sent me a check for 4 cents after they closed the account. Why even waste postage for 4 cents!!!

So sorry to hear this happened to your Dad, another scam is they put glue in the card slot, so a person will have to tap their card, and if you don't close the transaction screen the person that tells you to use the tap option to take your money. Be careful at the airport when charging your phone at the charging stations. They do the same thing and gain access to your personal information. Charge a power bank and charge your phone from that.

This is terrible. It happened to me about 5 years ago. I have not used a debit card since that time and do not do any online banking. Only card I ever use is my credit card. The crazy thing about my situation is I was inside the establishment where my card was read. Clearly it was an inside job. So glad your dad will be able to get his money back, but he certainly didn't need this stress.

Card skimmers.... thoroughly inspect ATMs, etc before inserting you card Also, Tip my aunt told me. Never let your card leave your sight. If you go out to eat either take cash. Or make sure you see where the waiter rings it at at a register. Drive-thru. Some workers will try to speed things up by getting the cards of customers in line. Don't hesitate to tell them "I will pay at the window".

I don’t understand why the banks security didn’t pick up on this! So ridiculous that they haven’t up security features so that this doesn’t happen. So sorry your dad had to go through this nonsense 🙏🏽

I have had the bank deposited someone’s else money into my account accidentally years ago. Yes that's been happening for a while now. Thieves attach "scanners" to the ATM machine that will record all the information from the ATM card. Those scanners also being attached to where you enter your ATM card at the gas pump.
I believe the attachment they put on any ATM is called a "Skimmer". That is also why they say to cover the numbers when you put in your code.
The EXACT same thing happened to someone I know. She works at a bank. I'm not sure if it's the same one. It took about two weeks for the investigation, before she was refunded/resolved.

I have used my card online to pay my bills. I do online banking. They have gotten it my bank account doing small transactions, but like you said, I check my account every day, so I catch them. They tried to make a large transactions, but the bank saw it and locked my card. They canceled the card and sent me a new one, a new number. So, really, you just have to be careful. I have a good bank that is on it. I have my computer with Norton. They still get through. So, to pay my bills and make transactions at stores online, I put money on Cash App or PayPal.
We just have to keep track of our accounts. The bank need to sweep these ATMs for card readers and cameras because if you offer outside ATM's inside or out, it is their responsibility to protect the customers. I know they put those readers inside the banks as well. TFS Sis

Your accountant was probably talking about a card that can be loaded as a prepay card, but that is a lot of trouble. I'd definitely have more than one card, especially if you travel. (That was a big scam I had heard about before and there are lots of them right now and will prob get worse. (Not being negative, but just telling it the way it is).
Oooo my goodness I'm so sorry this happened to your dad. I was aware of the skimmers, but I didn't realize that this was happening with bank ATMs.
This happened to me, I was in a clothing store and they had that device on the store card reader. I have my account set up where I have a cash limit I can withdrawn from the ATM, I found out because an hour after leaving clothing store I got an alert that someone tried to take more then my daily cash amount out and on the 3rd try the bank locked my account. I'm so grateful I had that cash limit on my account and I still have it today.

It is a piece that fits where your card goes. When your card is scanned it copies onto that piece. We had a trouble with this in Virginia and Tennessee. They told us it is a piece that if you try to pull on it it will come out. So we check gas stations or wherever we have to use our card. Whoever the card is with, you call call them about fraud and they can get your money back.

Gina, there is always something going on. It is not safe anymore. I had heard that you say go in the gas station to pay for gas there is a little card or a type of machine that is loose and it's it's shaky and they are reading your card that way. Is concealed somewhere under the machine or whatever? But I was advised to not pay at the pump go in the gas station and even if you carry a card in a wallet, some equipment can read it through your wallet. So you have to get a card that will protect against that. It is crazy. I'm glad that you are spreading awareness so people will know.

Oh bless your dad, I've had my bank account hacked 3 times, and this happened during my grandfather's funeral, started from a gas station ,but the bank did a search on transactions and found it was not my fault, I now have my account flagged so that if any amount over a certain limit, I get a text from my bank and all my reciepts also get texted and alerts are sent to me so he may want to check with the back and set up alert notifications or calls so he can be alerted for actions he doesn't normally do on a day to day basis.
This has been on world news before telling people to beware of getting money from ATM machines. I've started going inside the bank. Beware of using credit cards out & at gas places when buying gas.

These scammers don't seem to sleep. Sorry this happened to your family but glad your dad's situation can be recovered. I do check my accounts everyday too.
All of my savings was stolen too. I moved and several months later I had to get my car fixed. I tried to get get money from my savings and all of my money was gone except 50 dollars. Now, the bank won't return all of the money. Still missing almost 5 thousand dollars. I was so angry that I got so mad that the bank called the police on me. At first I didn't know what happened until I realized that one of the movers must have found a old check in my belongings. A lot of this is happening. I had to get a loan to pay for food and medicine. All of my teacher retirement money was stolen, plus social security benefits too. Thanks for sharing! A lot of banks won't return all the money to people. They blame the customer. I took the rest of my money out of South State. One fellow at the bank in South Carolina was rude to me and said that they were not going to press charges because they were not defrauded. Then, they refused to verify my cashier's check for another financial institution when I took my money out. Just the other day South State sent me a check for 4 cents after they closed the account. Why even waste postage for 4 cents!!!

So sorry to hear this happened to your Dad, another scam is they put glue in the card slot, so a person will have to tap their card, and if you don't close the transaction screen the person that tells you to use the tap option to take your money. Sad so sad, this is happening to so many people. You reap what you sow scammers.

It happen to me and others at Walmart I knew I hadn’t been to Walmart on that day. I check my account regularly the bank refunded our money I hope and Pray they got rid of them God is amazing.
Yes this happened to me and so happy the bank refunded me back every cent , and yes you need to be checking your balance constantly and keep track on every amount that you pin off
Be careful at the airport when charging your phone at the charging stations. They do the same thing and gain access to your personal information. Charge a power bank and charge your phone from that.
I’m so sorry that has happened to your family. If it’s not one thing it’s another my son’s is a victim of identity theft and these scammers and thieves I swear needs to be punished
This is terrible. It happened to me about 5 years ago. I have not used a debit card since that time and do not do any online banking. Only card I ever use is my credit card. The crazy thing about my situation is I was inside the establishment where my card was read. Clearly it was an inside job. So glad your dad will be able to get his money back, but he certainly didn't need this stress.

Hello Gina, something similar happened to me. Someone used my card # at Walmart for over $100. I’m still waiting for the bank to refund my money. I did have to close my account in order to get a new card. SMH

Card skimmers.... thoroughly inspect ATMs, etc before inserting you card
Also, Tip my aunt told me. Never let your card leave your sight. If you go out to eat either take cash. Or make sure you see where the waiter rings it at at a register.
Drive-thru. Some workers will try to speed things up by getting the cards of customers in line. Don't hesitate to tell them "I will pay at the window".
