Yes, the military has water activated heating elements sealed in a packet in MREs. It looks the same as the one in this kit. You slip the pouch containing the main course inside a little plastic sleeve containing the heating element where you pour the water, and then seal the pouch, and the food in the pouch heats up from the steam. It doesn't work perfectly, it's usually warm on one side, but usually part of the food is still cold or room temperature. Wish you'd mentioned how salty, or not, it tasted to you, as that is the bane of many prepared foods. Umami is great, salt sucks! Seems like fun to prepare, but there's an awful lot of plastic waste, however, due to its volume, could be repurposed as planters, sprouting chambers, and seed starting pots.( Everything from plastic water bottles to kitty litter jugs, can be used for gardening.)
Yes - I was thinking about reuse value, too. In an emergency, those buckets could come in very handy. Best wishes to your husband! I have to watch salt, too (not as carefully as he does), and it's EVERYWHERE!
These would be great for hiking and camping after a long day of walking in areas where you can't build a campfire, or something to eat as night falls upon the beach.
@@joy1ess they are consumed by a lot of people on a daily basis. I am not saying that there are people out there that eat these everyday, but they are eaten in large quantities on a daily basis. Very common in packaged food items, sadly My favorite instant noodle is guilty of this. Wrapping around noodles, spicy sauce packet, seasoning packet. Then a wrapper around all three to keep them together. Then another wrapper around a pack of 4 of those bundles.
After the video I looked online for the chemical packs. I have severe food allergies, and have a disability that sometimes puts me in the hospital. I can’t eat anything they serve there, so I bring my own food. This means that I usually end up eating cold meals, unless my family brings in a hot one. At home we grow and preserve most of the food we eat, so I make my own MRE’s and a lot of canned meals. I found both the packs and a reusable container meant to cook in with the chemical packs and that also comes with a cold pack to keep the food fresh until cooking. I ordered both. This will be a game changer, for me, the next time I have to be hospitalized. My husband will be able to drop food off on his way to work, and I can then just heat it up when I am ready to eat. Nutrition is especially important when you are sick, so this solves an important problem.
similar situation, except I'm usually just bedridden and don't have the energy to do much of anything for several days to weeks, and thought buying some of these bowls (or buying self heating packs and making my own when I can, somehow) would be so helpful!!

First time I've seen one of your videos and while this one's intriguing, I'm baffled by the amount of polymers they managed to put into the packaging of this product. Of course it's supposed to be something to bring for camping and what not but it still is quite crazy.
Interesting. For gods sake these people. These meals are for emergencies mainly. Obviously can be used in other aspects. Maybe in emergencies where there is no other choice but to eat these. But no the pressing issue is whether they can be recycled or something. Think of the amount of ingredients there were. Each ingredient could’ve been put into separate packaging instead of less. There could’ve been more. 🤦🏻♀️

I live for Emmys descriptions of how things taste and feel in your mouth, perfect! Really tells me if it’s something I want to try or not.
So much pollution and plastic for one meal😪☹️🥬🤯
That vegan kung pao chicken looks AMAZING 🤤
Insane amount of waste for convenience.
And we are getting screwed here in the USA with recycling taxes etc.
I love the engineering that goes into these products
So. Much. Waste. 😢
Thanks for the link to amazon. I was able to find what I was looking for. I love hotpot and it's light on my electrical bill. 👍❤🥰😍
So much single-use plastic... 🙁
So don’t buy it
the outside bowl seems quite thick, so I don't think it's that single use! if you peel off the label it might make for good storage.
Omg I used to be obsessed with your MRE videos, loved them. My ASMR 5 years ago
Wow. So much waste and chemicals just for a meal.
i've been watching you since your first videos , i sooo calming for me to see you , thank you for everything emmy
Good to see it's plastic #5, which is the most stable to heat.
If only we had tons of space when camping (even though we drive right up to our campsite) these would be perfect.
It would be pretty sweet to have one these after along hike.
I hope I will be able to find these where I am I love self heating meals as it saves time
After the video I looked online for the chemical packs.
I need to get some of these meals! Emmy has a new fan ! ❤
These would be great for emergency meals in case of hurricanes or power outages.
Your sound setup is amazing. Im getting chills on my studio monitors
I love you Emmy, you are so sweet & fun! This was really interesting, it's interesting food technology & good to have on hand just in case for emergencies or travel or just for quick convenient meals! Thank you for sharing!
Those all look delicious thanks for sharing 😊❤
All of these look really good! I could tell the vegan chicken would be my favorite, too. And I must tell you that I notice and appreciate that you lower the audio levels during chewing which may sound not so lovely next to a mic. We all love to hear a crunch at full volume but not a slurp or anything else that is 'wet.'😉
Use the large grey container as a plant pot.
This would be great to keep in the cupboard when your utilities get shut off because of whether conditions you can still have hot meal and the packages can be reused as planters no waste
Great for camping, field trips, road trips, natural disasters, blackouts, winter cabins, whiteouts, rural areas, poor countries without electricity, etc..
Cool! I really think its great that you shared this.
I have enjoyed your videos for many years now. Interestingly enough, I most appreciate your editing skills! I can only imagine you sitting somewhere editing out the crunches and munches! LOL
Pretty cool with the water. Just in case you have no drinkable water👏
Awesome, thanks for all your hard work Emmy ❤❤❤❤
Nice to have when you have one of those tiny apartments that don't have a kitchen.
I bougyt one awhile ago and thoughtit was really cool. It was good bit expensive. If i was gonna try it again id buy th meal and heat u it seperate which is much cheaper.
I think its great idea! Especially if your homeless, power is out, or recoving from a disaster (think tornado or earthquake or other disaster) .
I was hooked as soon as I saw real meat and the lotus root. I wish I could find a good tonkotsu like that.
those look so cool for camping or even eating at hotels while on vacation!
Never heard of this style before but I'd be curious to try it someday! :D
Awesome filling meals that the homeless would appreciate since they don't require cooking on a stove.
Aren't they expensive?
Pfft no " white bread sandwich " paper bag specials made with the cheapest balony.🤷🤣🤣🤣
@@justtubingby129yeah, like $7-10 for the ones I’ve seen.
That they will then leave even more plastic all over the streets. Don't get me wrong, I was homeless. I threw my stuff in the trash though. 98% of them don't. Give them stuff in paper bags.
@@adamburdt8794 Surely they would use the container for something else, storage or washing up or something? Wouldn't you have when homeless?
Thank you for featuring veg/vegan options!
Thank you for trying vegan versions for us. I really appreciate you doing this.❤️
Emmy, you should try to make pumpkin seed tofu, its awesome.
Supposedly it coagulates on its own, without the need for a coagulant. It would be interesting to see you try it.
This was a fantastic entry! I can no longer eat spicy, very hot or high-sodium foods anymore :(, but I can enjoy them vicariously seeing them presented and enjoyed by chefs on TV-and the ones presented here, I almost felt like I could smell how good they must’ve been! ❤
“I should be fine.” Famous last words of those with food allergies. 🤣😂 Great video! I’m curious what chemicals are causing an exothermic reaction. I also wonder if they make a real chicken meal with rice.
The ONLY thing I don't understand is....... why is there 138K views here but only 6.7 likes???????? How does one watch our dear Emmy! and not like the video!?!?!?!?!
