You gotta admire Nate’s fearlessness behind the kit. He’s got the perfect blend of that jazzy grit and pocket.
Jeff Randall Fearless Flyerssss
so true
Spot on Jeff. Great comment
You can definitely tell he has just the tiniest bit of uncertainty in his face when he modulates the meter or flips the groove but he fuckin nails it all the same. That's art right there.
@@mightymrmousempls yeah its right at the edge, like a gymnast landing that quadruple whatever backflip and the crowd goes wild
Can we take a minute to admire the bass player
So deep in the pocket he found your spare change
Hahahahah LOL
More like "he was so in the pocket, he took your wallet and maxed out your credit cards by flying to Bermuda with your girlfriend.... or, should I say, his new fiancée."
So deep down he takes off your shoes
Like those shorts where the pockets go to the bottom
BARZZ
Yes. So much cooler than just most playing lots of chops. These are tasty. Do it, Nate!
Omg this guy timing is on another level!!!....his musicality is like no other person I've heard of.
He's like Steve Jordan on steroids
He's completely unbelievable in his technical abilities. I know this is a bold statement and I'll get shit for saying it, but Nate Smith's hi-hat chops are the closest anyone has ever gotten to Buddy Rich, and arguably in some ways even better.
One of the videos I highly recommend if you having seen it yet is Nate Smith's set on NPR Night Owl. Look up his song called "Skip Step" on that series.
GOAT
THe pocket, the timing, the modulation, the pure tastiness... I'll take that over gospel chops any day.
From the mouth of Chris Coleman, what is gospel chops!?! Its just chops. Basically that term came about when people started fusing alot of different chops from all genre's of music but it got labeled gospel chops!? It's technically just fusion, quoting Chris Coleman on this subject but even the master of Chops in my opinion can't even explain where the term Gospel Chops even came from😄
The music, mixing, lighting, cinematography, and the whole vibe of this, is legend.
I feel bad for the 74 people who gave this a thumbs down. Prob still trying to move their 20 piece kits out of mom's basement
Bulletproof grooves! I know this is drummer deal but the bass player is a monster:)!
Ryan Boyce Burniss Travis straight outta HTOWN. He’s with August Greene
Agreed... when he starts playing that odd-time bass line around 2:25? Wow! It's weird and angular and yet hooks you in to groove/dance... and is eminently hummable too... so good!
When I first saw this and they got into that 17/16 time-signature groove, I almost lost it. These people straight murdered the whole thing so bad, it took the cleaning crew decades to clean it up.
Man, when he began coinciding with the DJ's skips and jumps....ridiculous and mind blowing. Excellent!
Zildjian, this whole series has been fantastic. Thanks. Looking forward to more content like this in the future.
Love his spacing between notes. This dude could play a dope beat to the phone book.
This is so dope! OMG who is engineering for these events. The mix and EQ on these vids are butter. would love to shadow
🙏🏾 Hit me up. @mykelogram
y'all need to keep doing these for real. All these videos have been so insane.
So fresh, Nate Smith, outstanding. It's the new style.
this man is so deep in the pocket you'd need a rescue team to get him out. hats off to the sound engineer...sounds incredible. 7:00 was particularly amazing.
That's what I call a freestyle on drums... lovin it!
why can't i thumbs up more than once?
Zildjian the whole series was just top notch! Thanks!
Mastery of time, feel, groove and pure stank!
Love what DJ is doing really glad that haven’t cut the DJ out of LIVE stuff really making a difference in this piece.
Nate is just so damn tasty and heavy!! Too much is never enough! Thanks for posting this!
One of my biggest influences 👏🏽 thank you so much for this
Nate Smith is so good at keeping that pocket, but knowing how to modify it. an awesome drummer for sure!!!
My Dude!!! Chills every time I hear him play... true mathematician!!!! #livinglegend
They are freaking out. The bass player, DJ’s, and the drum pad engineer and like “time signature?”
These. Are. So. Good. Nate Smith is a nasty filthy player. Please make more of these.
Cool! Love those Hi Hats and Ride! 🎶🥁👍👍DC
This is the most fun Nate ever had ever in his drumming Career :D

But the reality.
Liked before the video even started playing. Been waiting on this one!

new world stuff found right here in your face mixed in with the chemistry that made the old school. Do not be the fool that that just click on time too often. This was Retro 2019 at its best and finest....
This is a rhythm study as its finnest. "Let the rhythm hit 'em"!
Great platform, whoever is producing this content is killing it.
Nate The Killer - absolutely amazing drummer !!
That snare sound 👌🏼
That stumbling beat at 7:50 is great.
nice to see two Sennheiser 441 Mic at the snare drums. Makes Sense for a dry snare sound, fitting the style of Nates drumming.
Love you Nate!
Thumb up for J Dilla
c'est vraiment le meilleur Nate !
il y a une finesse dans l'approche de l'instrument, c'est ouf
et les beats qu'il arrive à sortir, c'est juste dingue !
Thank You Nate (and Karriem and all ^^)
Une Saison Aux Abeilles Je suis d’accord avec toi. Dudes got some chops.
Wowwwww.... That POCKET WASSSSS HEAVY.... MAN. I AM A NEW FAN. AWESOMENESS
I couldn’t wait this one to happen 💪🏾
So sick....great N.Smith!!!!! Super fantastic!!
Yesss❤️🔥 so dope! Thank you 🙏🏽
Keeps getting better 🔥🔥
A drummer that gets it....should always be dancing
right click, 'loop'. Such mastery.
Karriem Riggins on the sampler!
Saw Nate at Princeton McCarter Theater with Pat Matheny and James Francies - melted the place -
The one and only!
This guy is the Jimi Hendrix of the Drums.
He plays different music, but everywhere you see his masterclass and feeling for the instrument,
This is the nastiest the underground has ever been. This is amazingly crazy.
wuuuuuhhooooooooouuuuuuuhhhhhhh! Real next level!!!
As expected.
Marvellous.
7:35 Boom Bishiop is a beast🔥🔥👌
Love this guy.
Sorry Zildjian, but with this groove and the dope bass player i could not really pay special attention to the cymbals. This was so sick !
nate is phat stank playing funky ass beat playing drummer.....I love NATE!!
Hot damn he's got some feel to his playing.
Thank you for making this!
Sooooooo goood!
That Ludwig bass drum is destroying my IPad. AND 👉🏼...fantastic rhythmic journey...
Nothing compares to Zildjian. This is not up for debate!
This series has been some of the best music i've heard in a long long long time
Damn!! Nate.. As Chris Tucker would say "That sh*t couldn't be any RIGHTER!" :)

It's just funny how "time" f*cks with your head! Lmao. Love it!
LOVIN THAT GROOVE STARTING AROUND 7:40
Max Roach meets Steve Jordan with a little alien mixed in. Damn! 🔥
absolutely groovy!!!!
My man... Your skill inspires.
The K efx crash seems to be a common cymbal for a hi hat..... byyyy aaaallllll these bad ass drummers.
Sooooo good!
So deep in the pocket he got accused of playing with himself. Slick.
They killed This!
This was so Dope!
Love this sound!!!
4:50 - So I was listening to Spotify on shuffle...and this came on...'La Comparsa' by Chucho Valdés
So dope !!!
Locked grooving🔐💯
That last beat is sick... well all of them are
Awesome drumming 👏
Reminds me of weekend nights jamming at the crib
Zildjian Underground wasn’t ready for him 😂
God dam, blew my mind.
God I fucking love Nate Smith
Pocket!!!!! Damn!!!!!
New Fav Video
Not bad at all, uh??🤣🤣🤣the best of the best, he is already in history, mho
TIGHT
Fire bro 🔥
Thank you! ✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼
Chris Dave and Jamire Williams... used to be my favorites.... then it was Marc Colenburg..... now..... Nate Smith!!!! He has the greatest blend of jazz and hip hop. He doesn’t go too far into the experimental realm... or too dry with the Jazz... and his damn pocket is deeper than Trumps.
sick
