I was at camp, Nate was very generous with his time after the class. Seeing him with the Fearless Flyers with just a bass drum, snare and hi-hat was a revelation.
Mr Wong is the model of self restraint here. It must have been so excruciatingly tempting to jump in and play during these demonstrations. It shows that he's more interested in the lessons. It's a really nice (and useful) interaction he set up here.
Nate personally taught me the meaning of staying in the grove!!! And bro showed me a lot on Fender Rhodes as well!! He has produced horn arrangements for me as well!!! Y’all gotta hear bro on the Rhodes! It will blow your mind!!!!!
The best feeling to me by far when playing with musicians is when me as a bassist, using something i've picked up from a classic bassist in a particular style, playing with a drummer that also took inspiration from the drummer of the same band, and we recognize on each other both inspirations on a jam, an improvisation, is always such an awesome moment. Studying the great musicians that ever existed and exist to this day is also expanding my own library of things to play and tecniques to know. When there's layers of my own stuff but behind it something that i took from someone and he recognizes that, hah!

That’s Tim Lefebvre. Has played with David Bowie, Tedeschi Trucks, Nate Smith, and Wayne Krantz. He is my favorite bassist of all time. We got to jam and hang at that camp and it was one of my highlights of this year
And now he’s the one who inspires a whole generation and shapes the future. Nate’s always gonna be my hero.
This is why Nate will always be one of the GOATS. His willingness to always pay it forward and constantly strive higher for more is inspiring!
Your ears are your instrument. Your record collection is your textbook.
I think about this all the time 😊

Fellow camper here! Couldn’t agree more. I probably know you btw lol. Nate is such a great guy even aside from his drumming!
When "Masterclass" actually delivers. Great lesson, thank you.
Amazing how he takes on the actual physicality of the players he’s referencing and how inextricable that is with the sound. Maestro!
It’s rare, but when he mentions drummers while deliberately mimicking their sounds, I feel like I recognize them instantly.
Simply: what a great message to learn from here. Thank you for posting.
And, that "impression" of Steve Jordan is amazing!
Cory looks like the cool PE teacher everybody wants. Excellent video.

Nice to see Jimmy Cobb getting some love out there. The man is criminally overlooked.

Nate is a BEAST!! That Funky Drummer sounded like a sample it was so perfect
This was incredible! Nate is the pocket champ. That bass player though! Loved his eagerness to play haha - he killed it!
Tim Lefebvre, played with Bowie. Check out his stuff with Scary Pockets.

2:33 super true and important ❤
This is great!
I like how he admits how much he's stolen from other drummers, you can definitely see it.
Didn't even watch yet. Just saw Nate Smith in the title and had to like it right away!
Tim Lefebvre🔥

The tone on Tim’s upright… damn
Yea❤❤❤
Tim killing on the upright, man's been in the shed
Those drum grooves sound sick! Makes me want to sample them to put some rap on it, is that allowed?
