I was brought here looking for why bulb errors on my trailer are coming up on my infotainment display... trouble is, whilst I have a towbar and 13-pin socket installed, I have no trailer! I'll take it to my buddy at his home garage for a fix.

I've had a Powerprobe for a few years, and it's one of my favourite tools. It's simple, very easy to understand, and it frees the mind to concentrate on the problem at hand. Of course there is work to do if you want to do more complex testing like drop testing or if you think flow may be reversed because of a bad ground somewhere. But I'll pick the more simple tool in the name of better understanding of what the tool is doing.
Hey Shane, thanks for this video. I will be buying this tool. Awesome! I rewired my trailer and it was working. Then a couple of weeks later it wasn’t. I check for any wires being loose, then I wiggled and pushed in on the plug going into the truck. A couple of seconds later the wires and the plug started to smoke and I jerked on the plug to unplug it. My ground wire insulation almost completely melted. So, at this point I am back to square one. Your video inspired me to give it another try. That tool looks amazing! Like I said, I will be buying one.

I’m confused if you had power going to the truck pins on back. How did that turn into blown fuses. At 9:04 u had dc going to Pin’s then later the fuses were blown I just ordered that tool why didn’t it catch that
33 hands down? What's that about? Another great one by Shane! I had the same problem Shane! You fixed it! if anybody buys a trailer like that but with a wood floor, I highly suggest you stain it with Baer stain. Great stuff & will make the wood last twice as long. Do it before the bolts rust. Take the boards out & stain them top & bottom! I waited too late!

Use a long pry bar and slide drivers seat forward so can wedge prybar between seat and brake pedal to test brake lights w/o sitting in the rig

Tilt Trailers must be grounded on the bed not the tongue! if you ground on the tongue your going through the hinges and the lights will cut out when you drive, if you ground through the bed where the lights are bolted to, your good.

My Chevy truck ('05 2500 HD) does have left and right fuses for the trailer connections. My problem is the running lights fuse blows, I'm thinking there is a short in that wire somewhere in that circuit. The trailer lights work fine when wired directly from a 12V source.

I didn’t see you turn the signal light on. I’m going through the same right now with a car hauler about 20 feet in length. Installed a new seven wire harness. The right side works perfect..I’m stumped . The vehicle works fine with my utility trailer.
Have you tried the powerprobe? Thats what I would serious do to prove the circuit works and seperate the truck vs. trailer. Here is the one we used in the video: amzn.to/3aFTHKP

I have a very similar trailer to this and when I turn my vehicle right turn signal on both of my trailer lights will flash instead of just the right side. What would cause this?

Might wanna check your wiring to the lights and if everything is good check the truck wiring or any corrosion on the actual plugs truck and trailer
The tool is wonderful but one wrong move during the diagnostic and you can fry a computer easily ask me how do I know , by testing a plug which I thought was a 12v and in reality was a 5v line
In regards to keeping the brake lights, on just push the e brake pedal down. It keeps them on 😁

The e brake doesn't make your brake lights stay on.
If only I could find one that reads the voltage with a voice like my multimetre, it would be the perfect tool for me. I am totally blind, and Love all the audible features but it’s just missing that one

Okay I like the Probe product would like to add to my arsenal, can you share some details as to who sells it and what it costs? Keep up the great work enjoy them all. Regarding those trailer light kits, I often find the tabs that the wires are supposed to connect with the bulb bases, often bend away from the darn bulb. Then you can apply power, have no light operating but you tap the housing and you have intermittent light. I just drop a bit of solder on the point the bulb makes contact. Last time I replaced my trailer wiring I used 3/8 plastic wiring flex conduit from Radio Shack to cover wiring from center up inside the tongue. I have critters who like to live in the tongue and chew on those wires.

My RV tail light is on I am not hooked up to my tow vehicle why is the running light on I'm not sure if it's a tail light or a brake light but it's the only the right one on the rear of the trailer

my truck plug is only reading a little over 10 volts and not the 12 to light the trailer lights I'm told it's supposed to have.is there supposed to be a battery in the camper I'm trying to tow it should my plug power the tow
lights itself.I get no lights at all when I plug in but three trailer lights work with a battery
also my ball is painted black, it came this way from the store, would that make it so it doesn't have a good ground?
Hello,
You may only have 10 volts if your headlights are on while checking and there is a volt drop from dirty connection. Test at the battery with key on or off if wired hot and test at trailer connector. Compare those numbers for a volt drop. Example: 11.6 v key on at battery and 11.4 v at trailer = .2 v drop which is acceptable and may even be improved with cleaning connections.
Remove paint from ball.

Ok so I'm appealing to anyone out there who might be able to help me because I'm stumped. I have a bit of an unusual problem with my rv trailer. Bare in mind it's hooked up to a 2018 Chevy Silverado, which has auto light controls, manual light controls, and no ability to turn off the lights completely. That being said, on my trailer,....the turn signals work, the brake lights work, but the running lights do not. However the trailer lights are on bright like brake lights are, when the running lights are on on my truck in the dark. In the day my truck lights aren't on, so turn signals work, and brake lights work. So in a sense I have running lights at night, but my brake lights (because they're already on instead of my running lights) and turn signals cease to function when my truck lights are all on. I would be able to be seen, but not make it aware of braking, or signaling. Long story short, it seems my trailer has changed it's mind by using its brake lights as running lights, and cancelling out it's blinkers. Any thoughts please.

Check the wiring harness on the truck right above the bumper the colors should change follow the trailer plug down might have a short on it

Of course you can touch the bulb, just wipe it. The halogen quartz bulbs are not touchable.

Sorry but your tool is costing you time, not saving it. In less than 60 seconds you could have visually inspected the trailer harness and pulled the fuses before even reaching for a single tool.
Hey Jimmy...we like to work smarter and use all the benefits of testing to confirm. We also could argue if the fuse is blown why and that there is a chance a new one will blow and put you in the same spot. If you watch the series on the tool, you'll (maybe with a open mind 😉) see the value on all it can do. As a shop if you averaged all the electrical jobs a year that blew a fuse "just because" it's low and there is another problem that needs fixed...making a tool like this faster and extremely profitable over the average of a year. A DIY with one trailer, and one time issue, sure you may get lucky and win that race....just some things to chew on if you watch other videos on the channel...
