    As a former racing cyclist I understand the new kit mentality completely, new kit brings new motivation, new attitude can lead to new results. Hoping the Williams squad gets that jump. Albon is heir apparent to Danny Ricc for fan support, how can you not like Alex? I would love to see Albon podium (a guy can hope right?) and Sergeant get some points this year!

    I love seeing how different of a Team Principal James Vowles is compared to others, especially since I’m a new F1 fan and most TP’s are straight and to the point and sometimes very harsh.
    Vowles is detailed with his words and explained race weekends very nicely throughout 2023. I also love how he didn’t pay much attention to outside noise with Logan’s up and VERY DOWN rookie season and deciding to stick with him.
    I’m really hoping for a great season for Williams solely because of Vowles 🙌🏼.

    Kudos to Vowels for the monumental task he walked into. The fact that he is transforming the culture on the team and running a tight ship is the step in the right direction. We're still in an era in which certain teams are adjusting / getting used to the cost cap. I think by 2026 most of those teams will have got used to it, and it will ultimately lead to better racing. However, for now we've got to wait for the previous huge investment in the top teams to even out with the new investments for everyone at the back except Haas.

    There's definitely a feeling of upward momentum for Williams but I wouldn't look at them jumping into regular podium contention like McLaren have just yet, they're starting from a much lower position, don't quite have the finances (I don't think they're operating at the cost cap limit) and we've yet to see if they quite as an effective technical team.

    It's kind of strange, back in the late 80's and early 90's I never really cared for either McLaren or Williams. I generally don't root for a team that is dominating the sport. Now McLaren and Williams are my two favorite teams. I see McLaren in the fight for an occasional win and Williams lifting themselves from the back of the grid to be a solid mid-field contender. McLaren somewhat reminds of of where Benetton was in that late 80's early 90's time frame - Benetton was my favorite team at that time. I like to root for the underdog - as long as they show they have some potential.

    In all honesty, I think if William give Alex a competent and capable teammate that team can fully come back to greatness it’s going to take time yes but if Logan either steps up or gets replaced, and Alex has a good teammate that solid by his side, I could see that team completely making a comeback Purely because the progress it’s already been made in such a short time has been amazing and if there were two drivers scoring Alex‘s level of points think about where that team could’ve finished last season I think it’s just a waiting game now to see what happens in the long-term with Williams, but I personally wouldn’t count them out. I think that they’re on the rise and really hope that they give Alex a good teammate so that the team can return to the greatness it once held.

    I think people, mainly ones who had to listen to Murray Walker at the time are a bit too down on Williams and their driver decisions. For the first part of 1991 Patrese had Mansells number and only fell away after mind games and the introduction of the passive car. When Frank saw that the man who'd basically broken Mansell at Ferrari and made him almost retire because of the absolute thrashing he'd received it made a lot of sense to sign the guy who was available and who had smacked their current guy silly in the same team. The hill situation is even more straightforward as Damon (who I'll readily admit to disliking to the point of muting the TV whenever he's on) had crumbled in 1995 and even with Michael's questionable penalties and disqualifications in 1994 had barely dragged the car with the far superior package for 2 thirds of the year into a title fight where the FIA did most of the fighting for him. And unlike Ferrari last year it can't all be blamed on the team only focusing on getting their many pole positions since the car was often faster than the Benetton if we compare Coulthard and Herbert since they were closer matched than their respective team leaders since one of them wasn't eating barriers enough to get a tow truck loyalty card. Williams had every right to replace him and they did so in mid 1995 when they refused to renew his contract.They weren't approaching the start of a title run, they were in the middle of a disaster spearheaded by Hill

    • @LawVS
      @LawVS  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I understand what you mean and it was Frank's team so it's his call in the end...but the rush to make these decisions shows a somewhat questionable attitude to the drivers. With that in mind, you kinda feel that Ralf Schumacher was made for Williams. He knew his place and respected the way the team did things as being no nonsense and about results.

    Frank Williams and Patrick Head's stubbornness all lead to Williams' downfall in the late 90s and 2000s when they lost Adrian Newey (their biggest loss) to McLaren, Damon Hill and Mansell in the 90s, their toxic partnership with BMW, especially with Frank not wanting BMW to buy an ownership stake in to the team and instead partnering with Sauber. Even when Lance Stroll joined in 2017, Lawrence Stroll wanted to buy a share into Williams but Frank refused.

    • @LawVS
      @LawVS  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Preceisely. It didn't matter so much back in the 80s and early 90s because what they did worked...but then F1 evolved with more carmakers coming in and having just two men lead the entire widget simply didn't work anymore and led to TONS of people quitting frustrated at their brick-wall mentality.

    Williams never, ever, in all their years, had a repeat champion. All bar one champion of theirs either retired or quit the team shortly after.
    1980 - Alan Jones - retired in 81, came back a few times for different reasons
    1982 - Keke Rosberg - Stayed until 85, but honestly should have left as Williams were nowhere in these years
    1987 - Nelson Piquet - Quit the team that year and moved to Brabham citing the team as the reason for leaving.
    1992 - Nigel Mansell - Quit the team that year and went to indy
    1993 - Alain Prost - Retired at the end of the year
    1996 - Damon Hill - Forced out of the team at the end of his championship season
    1997 - Jacques Villeneuve - Left at the end of 1998
    This is why i have never cared for Williams as a team. they never cared for their talent and there was never really a personality to latch onto like the other great teams.
    Prost & Senna at McLaren, Schumacher at Ferrari, Seb and Max at Red Bull, Lewis at Mercedes. Williams, despite winning the 3rd most races never, ever had that.
