Big news in the world of Formula 1: Toyota is officially teaming up with Haas in a game-changing partnership that kicks off immediately for the 2024 season's race in Austin. This collaboration goes beyond just sponsorship, as Toyota will bring design, technical, and manufacturing expertise to the only American F1 team, potentially transforming Haas into a serious contender. With whispers of this deal circulating since the summer, it's finally confirmed, and the implications are massive. Could this be the beginning of a long-term strategy to make Haas a full works team with Toyota in the near future? All signs point towards a reshaped team that’s more self-sufficient, competitive, and ready to disrupt the grid.
But what does this mean for Haas’s current relationship with Ferrari? With access to multiple state-of-the-art wind tunnels and technical expertise from Toyota, Haas may find itself walking a fine line between collaboration and competition with Ferrari. Plus, there's speculation that Toyota could return as a power unit supplier around 2030 when new regulations are expected. This deal could also pave the way for fresh talent, such as Super Formula champ Ayumu Iwasa, to break into F1. Don’t miss out on what could be the biggest transformation for Haas since they joined the sport - this is one partnership that might just reshape the future of Formula 1.

ADDITIONAL: I forgot to replace the speaker of the quote at 3:20 - it should read via Haas' official website. No. Oscar Piastri didn't say that.
Haha I was wondering why had Piastri become a HAAS spokeperson and was waiting for the even crazier reveal! :D
I think that you are minimizing Steiner’s phenomenal contribution to F1. Without his imagination, energy and commitment, Haas would not exist. A lot of people, be it Niki Lauda, Eccelstone, Domenicali, had faith and respect for Steiner.
As for Steiner’s “Vanker” and “Rock Stars” (which you seem to mock), well, your shtick is being on ladder.

They should really be trying to get Alpine.

yeah it was funny seeing the comment attributed to Oscar.
The fact that Haas and TGR use simIar colors (white, black, red) is like they planned to cooperate from the beginning.(I know it's coincidence)

manchester united f1 team confirmed
As Japanese. I’d like to breifly translate President Toyoda’s comment toward this Haas collab.
He said, “I am just an ordinary car guy. I’ve talked with many TGR racers, and they all say one thing, the will to drive the fastest car. Since I decided to quit Toyota F1 project, those racers could not openly say they wanted to try F1. Its time to change that. I want future kids to dream of becoming driver, engineer and mechanic of the highest racing class. Ayao Komatsu think the same way. By collaborating with Haas, we can provide dream again for young Japanese enthusiasts.”
He states its not Full F1 comeback though lol
I see a Japanese driver in a Haas in the coming years (akin to Tsunoda and Honda).
Is this the reason Komatsu was the one who got promoted (P.s. I'm not questioning his qualification)
いつかトヨタがフルチームになったらいいですね
Right now it’s not a full comeback. It’s a smarty move to get a stake on a F1 team without spending 1 billion dollars on their own team. It seems like if they’re seeing results they will gradually buy out HAAS and maybe even supply engines in 2026 if they’re that motivated.
@@joehynes2964 I wouldn't be surprised if Miyata is the reserve driver for next season.
3:39 "Oscar Piastri Via BBC Sport" lol.
Oh dang. Oops!
20:22 American fan here, who has not watched Drive to Survive. Wanted to be a fan, but this year Haas has been my underdog pick. I have no problem rooting for Haas now, and Toyota's involvement only strengthens it. Toyota is one of the most popular brands 8n America, and I have been proudly driving American built Toyotas for 20 years.
This is what people get confused, in WEC, Toyota corporation provide the engines, Toyota Gazoo Racing have the engineers that design the chassis, monocoque, aero, etc. It is this team, Toyota Gazoo Racing that is linking up with Haas. So it will be like an addition of additional Engineers integrated into Haas. This is why Toyota themselves are saying it isn't them making a return to F1. Though, it does provide a similar type of integration that is seen in WEC when a manufacturer and a privateer link together. So the only thing I see here is that Toyota themselves might provide additional support like an F1 engine in the future.
TRD is very involved in NASCAR, as is Gene. I'd wager the NASCAR garage is where this whole deal got started. I wouldn't be shocked to see Haas running Toyota power in both series in a few years. Ayao being the team principal I'm sure didn't hurt.
Haas is leaving NASCAR
@@racerx94 Gene Haas is keeping a Cup team under the name Haas Factory Team and 2 Xfinity series teams as a feeder program. Only Tony Stewart is leaving NASCAR. Gene is staying.
As an American, the fact that Haas is an “American F1 Team” has no influence on being interested in them.
Bring on Cadillac and watch Americans flock to become raving fans.

Can’t blame law because there’s not enough to talk about to fill a 20 minute video, love listening and watching long videos but for this format, we need a little less filler yappage imo.
He must have calves of steel from climbing the ladder so often.
As an American, I support Haas because they are the "plucky underdog", not because they are American. I think Gene is gross and has done a horrible job marketing to Americans.
Before DTS I didn’t even know there was an American team in F1
@@WildBerrySmashYeah, same here! America is such an untapped market
yes this 100% - i support the team, not the man lol
We are American fans in Nashville; he saw Cevert win at Watkins Glen in ‘71 and she is an asian Schumacher super-fan (our 21 yr-old is named for brother Ralf). We can’t help but keep supporting Haas through all the years and especially with Mick of course. I always watch the start and often the full race from Kevin’s in-car and sorry to see his time ending but…she likes Ocon, he likes Ollie, and oldest son who as a WEC fan will appreciate TGR… love what Komatsu is doing and now even more excited for Haas. Full disclosure, he is an Andretti super-fan.
American fan…..Haas Fan 🇺🇸. I love the resurgence to relevance.
American here! Hass was mainly forgotten about up until this season when they started performing. They were definitely popular with Steiner, but were so bad we just ignored the fact that they were the only American team. I don’t know if they’re anyone’s rooting for them now solely because they’re American, but I could see that changing as the sport is getting more and more popular here in the states.
I have and have owned multiple Toyota trucks of various kinds and always will. My truck was built right here in the United States by Americans and it’s a beast! I can only imagine what they will do for Haas. I was excited to hear this news and I will support them more in the future.
As someone following the motorsport cycles, not only is Toyota coming back to F1, but will participate in the V8 Supercars here in Australia in 2026 with a 1:1 model being revealed at Bathurst some hrs ago, so the GR Division of Toyota is gonna be very busy and hopefully be competitive in all disciplines
Indeed. Akio Toyoda is probably a happy bunny right now.
Yeah I saw that live

American here, I will say I dig it. I'd still like to see Andretti in F1 though
@LawVS, American F1 fan here, Haas is not an "American" F1 team. We've never thought they were.
The owner is American and they have the flag on their cars so that's OK - it's American money funding the whole thing. Or was...
Yeah especially the famous red white and blue when uralkali was sponsor, can't get any more american than red white and blue@@chipsawdust5816
Owner is American
Base in America
American brand
It’s American owned and American money, nothing else. Dallara(Italy) chassis, Ferrari engine… I wanted to like them, Their HQ is in my hometown. I really wanted to be a fan, but stupid decision after another just makes it difficult to even acknowledge them.
17:22 A slight correction here: while Michael Andretti is stepping down from the day-to-day runnings of the company, he is in no way retitring and is instead shifting to a strategic advisor role with an ownership stake.
Glad you're back off vacation. Hope you had fun and are ready for the final run of the championship. An American friend here.
unless Haas has American Drivers, I won't see them as an American team. I really Identify more with the drivers than the teams.
Meanwhile….Andretti Global/Cadillac watches with great interest from sidelines…us Americans are very patient.
Toyota will not mess around with this, and it won't be like last time. In WRC, Toyota won their 2nd rally on their return (in 2017), their second rally since they departed WRC at the end of 1999 due to the then upcoming F1 programme. But in WRC, Toyota won 2 rallies in their opening year, one of them was from a rookie. And in 2018, Ott Tanak should have won the championship, the only reason he didn't was down the car's anti-puncture system being rubbish. and in 2019, Tanak dominated - he was almost unbeatable that year. 2020, Ogier wins, and Elfyn Evans a close 2nd. 2021, Ogier wins again, Elfyn Evans 2nd. 2022 and 2023, prodigy Kalle Rovenpera dominates. Only this year have Toyota struggled compared to Hyundai (who are also rumoured for F1, weirdly), but have still managed to win half the rounds this season - it's merely the new WRC points system (and Rovenpera on a part-time programme) that's caused them to fall short.
Someone else might want to quote the WEC/Prototype programme, as I know very little about that. But Haas WILL benefit big from this - before Toyota potentially buy the team outright in3-5 years
They’ve dominated WEC since Porsche left in 2017. I guess you could consider them to be like Red Bull in Formula 1 - where they were the 3rd-fastest overall underdog for several years before beginning their domination and crushing all opposition. Like Red Bull in F1, however, they have faced much more competition this year - and the racing has been truly incredible.
Bahrain is in about a month or so - should be very exciting to see if Porsche number 6 can win the Championship or not
They were always able to win when Porsche-Audi were dominant though, they were never too behind even if there weren’t many behind them through a few years (2020 and 2021 come to mind for small competition)
toyota never won a f1 race
I think the most likely outcome for Toyota would be buying Haas out at some point rather than starting a whole new team. It’s more cost effective and a lot of the stuff is already in place you’d just need to put some new pieces in place rather then build entirely from scratch.
One thing is for certain, the Toyota name will help gather a lot of Japanese sponsors for Haas, which can absolutely help them grow a billion times more.
Haas is more known in the southern states the home of NASCAR Andretti I believe is a bigger name throughout the United States especially for us that are not really into NASCAR
I love how you say Gazooo
3:30 wait, Oscar Piastri???
This move has 100% saved Haas from the FIA and FOM's push for a full grid with all major manufacturers. We knew Haas and other smaller teams need to get their stuff together so they wouldn't be forced out, based off the loose threats that were being made in the middle of the Andretti debacle. This has secured their place on the grid for a long time. Which in-turn is not good news for Andretti, even though they have every right to have a team on the grid. As an American, this definitely improves my view on Haas as the "American Team", but its hard to forget that the Haas car literally had a Russian flag on the side of it at one point. But I do love Toyota and this is a fantastic move, its still tough to pull my love away from Ferrari and McLaren though. I also do think that we need an American manufacturer on the grid, and an Andretti/Cadillac team would do so and steal the title of the "American Team".
What about Red Bull Ford?
american F1 fan here! i'm a pretty new (but very obsessive) fan and i've always wanted to really like haas because they're american and also have an awesome underdog story to them. i'm pretty happy with the toyota partnership and to the point about it being a japanese company - a lot of americans *love* japan (at least where I'm from in LA). i think that overall it's going to be super positive for building fan support
American race fan here. Naw dog. Haas has earned zero national pride. Also, the person in charge of the F1 team at Andretti is Dan Towriss, the multi-billionaire who owns Gainbridge. Might be something you find interesting when you dig into his business interests around sports.
As an American, I've always hoped to see Haas step up a bit more, so seeing this news was thrilling, particularly as it should bring more Americans onboard!
I saw his live show at The Swan, High Wycombe, just before Silverstone. It was brilliant, youll have a great time.
As an American fan NO, I still believe Haas should exit the sport, I just do not see what they bring to it. That has been the F1 argument that Andretti would not bring anything to the sport, I see way more that Andretti would bring over Haas. The majority of Americans do not have a positive opinion on haas but Andretti is a household name. On a real note this is what the sport needs there should not be two teams using the an engine from the same manufacturer on the grid, lets make it a competition and not a show.
Only thing missing is Yuki Tsunoda in the TOYOTA-HAAS.
And Japanese OEM backed team with an American Owner, a Japanese TP,l and a Japanese Driver.
American here. Definitely happy that haas got this deal. Branding themselves as an American team and partnering with Toyota, a car brand that you see everywhere here, definitely makes me support them more. Hope this trend continues.
American fan here. I’m happy for them but at the end of the day Gene is hard to cheer for. As a Toyota truck owner and overall fan of Japanese car culture, it’s a solid move and smart of both sides.
Is this my number one choice? No, Andretti was. That would have injected F1 with a lot more US fans than I think most people realize, but this move is a (distant) second place.
Great video keep it up you're doing amazing things 😁👍
Can’t wait for that beautiful red/white livery on the grid again
they wont change the Haas livery to a full Toyota one plus the Haas already has red and white on the livery
Oliver Bearman to WEC confirmed. Only a matter of time…
why tho?
As of right now Bearman is F1 matrial and a possible champion. Kid jumped into a car blind and ran as quick or quicker than the veteran team mates and he did it twice with two different cars
Honestly, it feels like Williams is more of an American team than Haas. I might be alone on this but I have a feel most of us Americans want Andretti to come in due to Gene Haas never leaning in on the American side. We see more of Williams, McLaren, or RB than we do of Haas. Americans like loyalty to our country and Haas never really taking up that mantle in the F1 world from the jump and stayed with it really hurt them. Yes people are going to be fans of them but Haas and Urakali partnership has put a idealogial wedge between them and the title of Americas team.
We need an American team! Bring Andretti/Cadillac into F1.
18:05 American F1 fan here! I started watching in 2019, so for the whole time I've watched F1, they've been a bit of a joke. I'm also a fan of Toyota, so this in fact IS making me far more likely to support Haas. If nothing else, this is a PR masterstroke from them.
3:39.....Did Oscar Piastri lost his seat at McLaren and become a BBC reporter....wow....a huge career change....a huge step down....
Haas, based in England, with Italian cars, and Japanese technical partners, is American in name only.
That being said, I’m all in on Bearman so I suppose I’ll be a Haas fan if only tangentially.
It's simple for me, I've followed F1 since Graham Hill. Jimmy Clark was my hero. I believe that relationship is about to end. If an entity's animus towards another can dictate a sport, no thanks. Full disclosure, I'm also a fan of Mario Andretti, and resent someone like Liberty etal.
American fan here, I happen to be a RedBull/McLaren/Williams fan. When I started watching I chose a top team, a mid pack team and a back marker to cheer for so I'd always have something happening to be invested in during a race weekend
Haas v Williams next season for battle of the midfield is going to be a blast!
I would argue it's happening right now.
@@LawVS Fair point, you are correct!
@@LawVS Williams being 16 pts back would seem insurmountable at the beginning of the year, but now it seems doable. I think Williams or Haas will get a cheeky podium by the end of the season.
I've been saying that since Williams switched drivers, Colapinto from Sargeant.
This is the main reason as to why they stopped all the nonsense and gave Steiner his walking papers. Komatsu stabilized the team and made them competitive. Toyota will have a PU ready to go by '26, based off their already-winning unit in WEC.
The time given will be a change-over, from Ferrari to Toyota, similar to what Sauber is going through from Alfa Romeo to Audi. The difference is that it will be a lot less bumpy.
@@Charles-jk5px this is my first year following F1 and an American, I never got Logan love. He was holding Williams back.

American F1 fan. I have been a Haas fan since they came in, and i dont see that changing anytime soon. Its nice seeing them not be the joke of the paddock.
Ayao Komatsu and Haas both looking like geniuses rn
As an American F1 fan... I think this partnership between HAAS and Toyota is only a positive. Toyota is a popular brand here but I'm not sure HAAS will gain as much fanbase unless they start showing they care to race for wins rather than being present. I will still remain a Ferrari fan regardless! I think the Andretti name would have been far more beneficial having in F1 to gain American fan support tbh.
I’m an American and have always had an inkling of support for Haas but this move seriously impressed me. Getting rid of Gunther and bringing in Ocon, Bearman, and Toyota is awesome. I’d love to see them do well and maybe get a crazy podium at some point.
I'm from the US. I think the changes are good. Steiner get credit for getting thinks off the ground but sometimes people out stay their welcome and to get to the next level you need to shake things up!
Komatsu is really making all of the right decisions. I think Haas will continue to trend upwards. Say what you will about Ocon, but he's going to get points and so will Ollie! Let's go Haas!
My hot take: Ocon didn’t deserve that Haas seat. It’s an upgrade over that Alpine seat, especially now, and it feels like he just got rewarded for bad behavior. Besides him, im very happy about Ollie, Toyota, and Komatsu, and what they’re gonna do for my favorite team, there were many promising glimmers this season, that I think can become podiums in the next few seasons, as the grid comes closer and closer together
American here. I definitely will be supporting Haas more. I am happy that haas is finally getting their act together and is seemingly done embarrassing us. However I would still like to see Andretti global on the grid.
Flinstones... The Great Gazoo........... that would be such a cool livery.......

Considering that TGR are also entering V8 Supercars it is quite curious what a giant push toyota is making. I hope they don't spread too thin.
Sooooo HAAS really needs to drop their idea of being the "US Team" with Toyota Title sponsorship now. Just grasping at straws with a car built in Italy with help from Ferrari and now a Japanese OEM as a title sponsor. I think this is great for HAAS as a team though. Especially with a young hot shoe in the the seat next year, good timing.
Eh, if I remember correctly Toyota and Honda build more cars in America that GM and Ford do.
@@rexthewolf3149 I hear you, but GM, Ford, VW group aren’t Mexican but a whole lot of their fleet is manufactured there. I would also say most people probably aren’t aware of where their “import” was built and technically those Mexican assembled vehicles are imports even if their OEM is domestic to us. It’s fine details and only a small group of us are aware of it.
The whole reason for their plants stateside is to avoid a tax on imported vehicles.
@@dillon_r_hansen Almost certainly, I only know it because I used to live near a factory.
To be fair, Dallara is in the US.
The Guenther impression got me. 😂😂😂
I am an American, and have been a Haas supporter but had been on the bandwagon, up until this year, to have Gene sell the team. It was becoming a struggle to support a team with no direction and seemingly no desire to fight for anything other than 8th or 9th place in the championship. This Toyota news is huge
There is certainty no lack of support for Haas here in the US! But the Andretti family is racing royalty to us, so the support for an as-of-yet unapproved team is even greater.
as an european not letting andretti race his team in F1 is f criminal
Having Toyota in F1 is a good thing. By the way, Toyota announced in the last month that they are joining the Australian/New Zealand Supercars series in 2026.
American fan here loved Haas when it first came out and it's true we like Toyota so this is really great.
American F1 fan here (and been one well before drive to survive) Personally I feel hopeful for Haas/ Toyota partnership. I think you are correct this will breathe new life in to the team and Americans will see them as a US team now. The perception of Haas has been, This is a US managed team, run by Ferrari. (basically an Italian team ala getting Italian food at Pizza Hut) Will this combo draw more American into F!, yes I believe so, more along the lines of fans coming from NASCAR. You may ask why is this different than the pairing of Haas and Ferrari. Toyota's in the US are built in the US, Hundreds of potential fans waiting to be picked at the factory and the surrounding areas, They have become a hometown team in 5 States (including Texas) as well as Haas HQ in North Carolina. I presume this will have a much larger affect on the US market than we currently perceive.
That Fred impression was on point
Im really excited about this. Toyota back in F1. Honda coming back. Audi as well. Red Bull powertrains being co developed with Ford. This is going to be SO good
As a American Red Bull is favorite team just do to the fact that I prefer their energy drink so a little biased, but I was more excited because Oliver was the rookie Im most excited for and I’m just happy that haas is trying to put a car together for him and even for Esteban. I really hope they continue to better this team. I feel the driver combo and with the new partnership I think it can lead to big things for f1 in the United States.
18:05 at the beginning of the video i was just thinking to myself i might consider buying some Hass merch since the team is starting to look more and more like a real team now, with some big names onboard. So as a American, yeah this direction they are taking is definitely making me pay more attention to them.
American F1 fan here. Toyota Gazoo is a big get for Haas, I have been rooting for Toyota in WEC...Lets Gooo!
As an American who only got into F1 last year in December (I don’t have Netflix so no drive to survive influence) I’m excited and genuinely support HAAS next year. I’ve seen what Gazoo can do and it has me really considering heavily switching from Red Bull to HAAS to support next year. I’d still prefer if Andretti got in with Cadillac but just the idea that Gazoo is partnering with HAAS makes me wish them all the best.
American fan here. I’ve been a fan since before DTS. I’ve been a Mercedes fan since Shumi. Haas never really tried to look for American fans to be honest. They are American in name only. The only reason I followed them is because of Gunther. Other than that I hope the Andretti bid gets traction. I’ll keep rolling with Mercedes!
This is a real TP at work not a clown for Netflix hits
Wow. New to the channel. 👍
Haas doesn't get access to the new Ferrari wind tunnel, they use the old one along with some F2 teams. I think it's the same for the sim too.
12:06 F1 regulations only allow a team to use 1 wind tunnel within a 12 month period, so HAAS won't be able to use both wind tunnels.
Fred impersonation was spot on 🤣
This is very exciting to get more Japanese presence in F1. Pres. Toyada is not wrong when he says it'll reach the young people dreaming of being involved in F1, from drivers to technical engineers. Haas can be part of a historical change with Toyota in the sport, they will be involved in the direction of F1 as much as adding another engine and auto mfgr to the grid would be.
Currently driving in America, in a Toyota, listening to this video. I’d say I’m happy with haas’ decisions
Akio Toyoda is a Legen. He is not the typical boss. He is the Carguy's Carguy. When the board banned him from Racing he went ahead and started racing under a Pseudonym
American motorsports fan since the 80's, Haas (businessman) could never hold the weight of the Andretti name (racers).
Would be super excited to see Kalle Rovanperä get some open wheel action!
This is good for haas with toyota back in f1
Toyota is already having a foot in F1 to watch how the 2026 engine regulation will unfold and how they’re planning the hybrid’s end in the 2030 engine regulation.
Haas will become Toyota’s team and if Red Bull fails in the 2026 engine regulation they have to leave F1 because they can’t afford to own two teams with a failing engine project.
I couldn't remember the name of your channel, but I wanted to see your thoughts on the Toyota news. I searched for "ladder f1" and found you 😅

Gazoo from the Flinstons
As an American F1 fan, I would much rather prefer Andretti to be in the sport than HAAS but ever since Ayo took over I have been a lot more open to the idea of supporting HAAS but in my opinion they still don’t FEEL like an American team yet. Toyota has a huge presence here in the states so while it isn’t an American brand per se, it still works in their favor for US audiences. Personally, I follow their WEC hypercar entry and the work they have been doing there is stellar so I trust that this Toyota deal will only mean good things for HAAS
sucks to think this happens right after hulk left
if he could take his podium at Haas would be amazing
wont happen with the 2024 Haas, Audi is the only possibility
As an American, I really wanted Andretti to get in. But I’ll stick with McLaren.
