    I hunted with mega meats last season and had success on a turkey with it. I put one through a coyote but never recovered it. Both were complete pass throughs with lots of blood. My string maker at my bow shop swears by them so i gave them a try. I cant say im in a hurry to use them again, but i wouldnt say never again either. The year prior i hunted eith montecs and had great success. Ive killed 5 deer in total with montecs/m3s and been happy. Its a shame to hear they struggle with holding an edge. This season i am looking into using the magnus black hornet, which is the broadhead that lead me to finding this channel. I just got magnus shipment of broadheads delivered to my bow shop so ill be picking some up soon. Thanks for your review and your insight. Its always good to see a fellow illinois bow hunter.

    Great video! I started using Wasp Boss 125g on my crossbow and bow last year, unreal performance I was very happy to see the penetration (complete pass threw, center shoulder bone on a whitetail at 25 yards with a 300fps crossbow) and the blood trail was one of the best I had!

    The montec has the same bevel angle as VPA 3 Blade, muzzy one, Magnus snuffer, and annihilator for just a few to reference. If you can’t get them sharp, it’s not the bevel angle.

    I may not fully agree with your list, but you have good points and research to back you up. The Montecs could be so great but they are dull out of the pack. You can get them sharp , and then they are deadly!. Years ago I had a broadhead testing website and an entire scoring system. While at the ata show I spoke with the owners of g5 and the discussion became a bit heated when I mentioned the heads dullness.

    for a fixed head i find tooth of the arrow XL to be intriguing , just ordered some, hopefully will be able to test on a deer. John lusk's test proved to be impressive. i have been using swhackers (hate the name) 2" cut 100gr for years, actually around 13 deer killed with them, extremely effective, don't care about 1" entry when the deer usually only go 30-40yds. They're not the most durable, never bent a ferrule, but blades are easy to change. So many heads so little time....

    After bow hunting for almost 60 yearsIve come to the conclusion a QUALITY American made two or 4 blade head IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE one in the long run. One with a good thick main body and /or smaller bleeder blades will IMOslice through meat easier and more effeciant than any mechanical one. Mechanical heads need and require energy to open the blades. This can cause less penetration as witnessed in hunting videos one after another. And you DO NOT NEED a 600+ grain arrow either. In my experience a 450 grain two blade going 270+ fps will pass through nearly every animal in America. 👍👍🙌🏻🏹

      I started bow hunting last year. My bow shop didn’t take the time to work with me on form or make sure my equipment actually fit me. My release and D-loop were way too long, so I ended up with a 62 lbs draw weight and 27 inch draw length.
      This year I’ve been learning how to shoot properly. I’ve upgraded to a faster/heavier draw bow with an inch and a half longer draw length and much better form. I can practice out to 80 yards, where last year I was nervous shooting 40.
      Find a good pro shop and make sure your gear is fitted to you. Get some coaching. I don’t know your exact arrow total weight, but it sounds like it will be well under 400 grains. If you want more momentum/penetration, talk to your pro shop about building a heavier arrow. Good luck!

    If u like sharp that stays sharp there r options & some u have reviewed. However if u want sharp that will stay sharp, not break & will stand the test of time w/o replacing blades then the podium gets a lot less crowded. Integrity over a long time is hard to find. If u r familiar with the DIY Sportsman than u know that he now has a wife. Since he married his wife ( I believe her name is Sam) he continues to shoot the Iron Will & she shoots the Valkyrie. With low poundage & a short draw length she is punching through deer like butter. She could go years with those same broadheads in her setup & never have a dull head. Brandon McDonald found both the Iron Will & Valkyrie had the least amount of pressure needed to punch through a hide. I believe the Valkyrie was something ridiculous like 4 lbs. of pressure. I know everyone has a budget but when considering that a pack of heads can last u decades w/o the grief or disappointments then u r saving time & money on an exponential level. 🤔 If u could buy tires for your truck or car which guaranteed 250,000 miles as long as the vehicle has good alignment like a bow must be with your arrows would u do it? I'm wondering how many people have that mindset? People keep knives for years & they keep them razor sharp. Maybe it's time to start thinking that way about broadheads which is what actually kills the animal & puts fine meat in your freezer. Thanks for your research & testing.

    • @Chestthumperoutdoors
      @Chestthumperoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont disagree, however we dont always recover arrows. Its hard for many to stomach losing a $30 broadhead its also not with in budget for many. I couldnt afford tp lose $30 broadheads on the regular and I tend to lose at least 1 arrow a season. Its bad enough losing the $30 arrow.

    Everything you have to say becomes invalid when you recommend a 2” cutting diameter over the top style grim reaper OVER a 2” cutting diameter rear deploying G5 Megameat. I understand holding it to the same standard and others open up but that’s the high quality design of the snap lock collars. There’s no question that those blades will stay closed until impact on hide. Rear deploying mechanicals (especially ones with large cutting diameters) will always reign superior to any over the top style mechanics. It’s a design thing. They’re just more efficient, more reliable, and you lose less energy on impact.

    Iron will does make a quality broadhead but to say that they use the absolute best materials is kinda false. A2 tool steel blades and a titanium ferrule is nice but by no means anything crazy. There are tons of knife steels out there that make A2 look like pot metal.

    • @Chestthumperoutdoors
      @Chestthumperoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Youre talking seperate applications. What you need from a knife is different from what you need from a broadhead. Similar, but different.
      A couple other companies use A2, none that I know of paired with titanium, and one company uses what would be considered a superior metal, S7. Thats bishop and selling at around $200 a broadhead I don't bother putting them in the broadhead conversation because its such a small niche group thats willing to pay that for a broadhead.

      A sharp broadhead will cause more bleeding by creating a wound thats harder to seal and by cutting micro blood vesels that a dull broadhead would normally push out of the way. Sharpness and edge retention are the 2 most important factors on my testing.
