Hey Chris, Well Done. As a 50 year old who started archery before the Social Media Era I feel You and Dudley are the Best!!! All though you make money and do archery for a living (The American Dream), I feel you haven't sold your sole to the Dollar and your Love and Passion for Archery and Hunting are still what's most important. Bee Real is a Prefect Motto for You!!!
*_Supreme Video Chris!_* _This one was fun forsurrrre! Your overall presentation, and vibe allows your audience a feel of being there with you while you are doing this!_ _Definitely want to see a fixed blade test next!_
Excellent video! Thank you for taking the time to do this. It saves guys like me, who don't have a ton of time, from having to do all this testing myself. You definitely answered some burning questions for me! Keep up the great work and I'll keep watching!
I was amazed by how much the change in fletching tightened the broadhead grouping significantly. You did a good job with setting up this test, however sprinkling in some more science with a few improvements to the experimental design and analysis could go a long way in making a test video like this even more definitive resource that your audience can use to choose equipment based on how you shoot them. What you are doing here is very valuable because you are a talented archer that we know is consistent in form and aim testing top tier equipment with such slight variations as broadhead/arrow/release and showing the results. This type of info is usually only obtained through coaching or personal trial and error which is usually costly and can be frustrating because most of us don't shoot as well as chris. I am imagining a blinded test controlling for more factors where chris is handed various test arrows in a randomized order. This could control for many confounding factors that could call into question the results. Bump the sample size up a bit for each sample and you can run some simple but powerful statistics to make the comparisons and provide context for your conclusions. I think a LOT of consumers would be interested in that type of video where you examine one or more variables in a shooting setup and provide unbiased testing. I for one would really like to see if helical fletching improves broadhead precision and if arrow center of mass matters much.
I switched to them Grim Reapers. Use to shoot the nap and rage. And a few others that I've tested during hunting seasons. I've had the best results with the Reapers.
I used a Grim Reaper MiniMag 4 blade on my last buck, it left a large entry hole and exit hole. Ive always seen large entry holes form Grim Reaper Whitetail Specials too.
I think you inadvertently showcased the fact that all of these broadheads can be deadly at “whitetail ranges”, which for most of us is not 70 yards. I think that all of the broadheads you tested can be deadly at normal hunting distances, just with subtle differences. Great test!
Thank you for talking about fletching and shooting what you'd run with a fixed blade for more control mid-flight. That really paints a good picture for managing broadhead tuning, but also how important fletching choice is! Awesome video.
I'd personally like to see a fixed blade broadhead test with a lower/average poundage bow like around 60-65 pounds and shorter draw lengths like 28/27.5 and shorter.
@@efaciler2462 I’m using them with a crossbow just to clarify. With my compound bow and traditional bows I lean towards the Simmons product line for easier pass throughs. Sometimes I use the G5 too, but prefer the Simmons Sharks.
Absolutely love these videos. You should do a fixed blade double bevel test and a fixed blade single test. If you ask the ranch fairy to help that would be the icing on the cake.
I have been shooting the schwackers for 3 seasons now. I was having terrible accuracy issues past 40 with everything but the schwackers. I understand your reasoning for wanting a large entry hole, but I haven’t really found that it mattered at all. Went from montec fixed blades on my Hoyt to schwackers out of my VXR 31.5 and haven’t lost one yet.
Loved this test. Especially the longer range accuracy test and the sound test! Making me want to get out and get my broadhead testing going for this season! Less than a month away for me!
I’m NOT a mechanical broadhead guy, but this was a pretty good real world test. I enjoyed seeing the results from a different point of view. Great work 🤘
Good stuff Chris. Everyone seems to have their own opinions, which is fair, but love how you dove in and provided the specs and facts. Everything else can be scrutinized, but thanks for doing this. One thing I noticed that will save you a little effort, at least with the G5 packaging is there is no need for the knife, and the packaging can be reused for storage. The back side of package has a little ridge that the flat backing pops out and package opens like a book. Not sure on the others.
I shoot the Swhacker all the time out to 130 yards, just practicing they definitely will hit dead vertical and drop less than all the heads you tested. They fly the best in the wind also "for me" no matter the fletchings
Great video. Helps a tons. I’m a huge Grim Reaper fan. Shot an 8 point this year with one. Passed through both ribs like butter didn’t go 70 yards. Sharp blades and always expand.
awesome video. I have been shooting Rage Trypans for about 5 years. After watching im probably going to buy a pack of Swhaker and the deadmeat and decide between them.
A couple years ago I ran the grim reaper, shot a bear at 30 yards and found the arrow with all three blades still in the closed position. Needless to say I don't run them anymore
Have you ever had a issue with rear deploying heads opening before impact? I had a set of Killzones that every one of them opened before impact and made a ton of noise and flew very sporadic.
Awesome video! I did feel like your bias against Swhacker was a tad unfair 😆 Seemed like the Swhacker, Deadmeat were stars of the show. Haven't tried Deadmeat but I'll have to check them out after seeing the performance here!
IMHO... Many TH-camrs don't like or use Swhackers because you can get them for a good deal at your local Wal-Marts, especially when end of season clearance comes around! They're also not as Blingy or Trendy as many newer broadheads. So even though many youtubers get great tests results all the time with them, they usually just make quick comment about them and push them aside. I bet if Swhacker sponsored them, it'd be a whole different story.
facts, and i have watched every deer and turkey i have shot with them fall. none made it over 50 yards till dead. no tracking needed....just the way i like it.
I've shot Grim reapers out to 120 without having to do any adjustments. But I also don't shoot the whitetail specials. But I also shoot my fixed Tooth of the arrow that far with no adjusting to anything either.
Really cool to see how much those fletching impacted the broadheads. Still had the vertical variance between the broadheads. But the horizontal differences basically evaporated
Every animal Ive shot with the reapers which have included the smallest of all the fatal steel has left a huge whole and great blood trails! Love them!
I shoot the 1 3/8 4 blade mechanical they make quick work. I know they don’t open through the entry hide but I have noticed with all mine they punch like a 3/4 inch circular entry hole.
Excellent video and a good (and fair) field test of the performance of the different mechanicals because you are such a good archer and thus human error is minimized from shot to shot. As always, I love your videos Chris. Thank you.
I am sure someone already pointed this out but you are mostly testing the gel friction on the arrow shaft with gel block testing. I like seeing the tests but I have given up on mechanical heads after seeing them fail in the field to many times. I would use a SEVR on turkeys but anything north of a turkey will get a fixed head cut on contact.
I've used the heat vanes in the past on recurves and longbows as well as compounds and never had flight issues with 4 fletch right helical, even with big 175 grain Steel Force heads. Bareshaft tuning is key to using small vanes like those in my opinion.
Do the same test with Ramcat 2 and 3 blade!!! Im really curious how that would turn out. Great job on this video. Very interesting and informative. I learned a lot
In my experience when it comes to the schwacker ive always had a great bloodtrail. The bleeders always do a good job of creating a good entrance hole. One particular experience I had was a 150 inch 10 that was quartering away and it buried into the opposite shoulder and with the arrow still in the animal it still opened well enough to make a great blood trail. Ive had the best luck getting pass throughs on clean shots with the schwackers. Other big cutting diameter expandables ive used seem to have trouble penetrating all the way through. I shoot 75lbs.
Glad all yall make these videos helps me choose whats best for the season. I'd like to see most all the broadheads tested to see what's better then another I'd also like to see the fixed blades compared
Rage nc, with a sharpened chisel point. Excited to try them. In my opinion the chisel tip has to be super sharp as its the first thing that hit the animal. Even the rage I sharpen everything again.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Would have been interesting to see the weight of each. As a reloader I’ve learned grains matter especially in alittle wind.
On certain days when I shoot, you’re group with the Rage at 70 yds looks similar to my grouping with field tips at 30 yds 🤣 Arrows flying everywhere!!! HAHA!
Fun fact for ya. The old NAP killzones before they went to the chinese company. They had a 1lb detent, which made them open easier also came out of the box sharper, to a 6lb detent and very dull out of the box. Once i found out that, it made sense why the last 2 deer i shot they never opened up. So i switched to fixed blade broadheads to avoid this issue ever happening again.
I love the heat vanes. 4 fletch are super quiet, when I shoot the grim reaper 4 blade, almost no adjustment is needed. My fixed blade choice is the Trocar and it requires only a little more. Dead on field point at 80 yards
Cool video and enlightening because of how good of an archer you are. Rocket broadl heads were always my favorite expandable. You should also included the sevr. I love ramcats for fixed and they group the best for me. Please do more of this testing because your level of skill shows so much!
I love grims but the whitetail specials aren’t my favorite for whitetail. They wreck havoc on turkeys. For deer I use their 4blade 1 3/8 pro series mechanical. They don’t drag near as much and wind doesn’t bother them as bad.
Awesome video as always! Found this really interesting and helpful. I live in the UK and aim on day to get to go bowhunting! But can't rely on trial and error if I ever get the chance to hunt and videos like this help massively. Would love to see a video on the process of applying for your hunting tags.. Thanks for the videos
Here in Georgia USA, with an online hunter's safety course, you can buy your hunting license and get tags for 12 deer. 10 does, 1 buck of any size, and 1 quality buck. The deer herd in our state is hovering around 1 million. Texas has the largest number of whitetails. Georgia also has an "apprentice hunter" program that requires you to be under the direct supervision of a fully licensed hunter, but does not require the hunter safety courses.
Not sure what your relationship is with SEVR or if you’ve ever heard of them. But I first used them last year and fell in love with them. You should try em out if you haven’t. I’d be willing to send some out to you to try. Either way great video man👍🏻
Really enjoyed watching this video. Several variables taken into account including the human element made this video what it was, these are how they ran, now make up your own mind. Keep up the great work!
Great thorough test on the mechanical heads 👍 A lil higher FOC% will increase the “effort force” of your vanes and stabilize an arrow more efficiently. Could also try a higher helical 3 fletch to reduce rear arrow weight and increase drag/lift just enough to offset drag/lift induced by broadhead.
The the longer the Broadhead is it distributes the weight out on the Arrow differently which puts the arrow in a different spine that's why it will shoot to the left or to the right Great video
And your testing is absolutley great!! I dont think theres a better way to do it And you kinda changed my mind on a few things!! Time to buy some broadsheads!
Please do a test of the Deadmeat flight vs. the BMP practice to point to see if the claims are true about the practice point flying the same as the braodhead.
Can you do a video of tuning your bow for the broadheads? I am going to shoot the deadmeats this fall, but, first year bow hunting and want to have everything squared away.
I think the big ferrule on the Deadmeat helps clear a path for arrow shaft as well. I love that thing, but I also have harvested so many deer with the Rage Originals.
Well this came out perfect timing. Just fletched my VAPs with aae pro max vanes and was looking for a good mechanical broadhead. Thanks for the video!!
Great video. Would have loved to see you compare Sevr to these since they are really similar. I realize Lancaster doesn’t sell them though. Keep up the good work.
I’m really glad I bought the Swhaker today. The other upside is that there’s less bulk closer to the riser of the bow incase the arrows are a little shorter.
I've used all but one of these along with several other mechanicals and I've decided that the only mechanical I'll use is grim reaper. I'm mostly a fixed blade guy but if I use a mechanical it's a group reaper. Huge cut, durable, dependable, flies true, really sharp, to me they're just the only fixed blade worth using. Just my opinion though.
Loved this video! I’m a lot more confident in sticking with my G5’s! I’d really like to know what you are using for a target. I’ve been looking at so many and all the good foam ones have lots of complaints about it being difficult to pull arrows out. You were able to pull all those broad heads out pretty easily so I’m very curious what you got there. Thanks a bunch!
Love the videos Chris. Could u do a video on the Mathews Image. For some of the unfortunate archers like myself that may need to shoot low poundage bow this season. Thank you.
Great video. My only issue is it did not test accuracy properly. Without tuning in each arrow to the bow it doesn't matters how close to the center they hit. It matters how tight the groups shot. For instance, even though the grim reapers hit the lowest if they had the tightest groupings then they would be the most accurate
great video!! you should do a fixed blade test.
Agreed
Yes!!
Wouldn’t mind seeing what the four blade grim reapers will do…. Wicked video !! Thx for sharing
Chris great video Sir. Please I am with this gentleman; can you do a fixed blade showdown
Agreed.

You think they would be good for hog hunting ?
Definitely
@@Getdownorlaydownbum yeah. They perform like a fixed blade but fly like a field point
Any opinions on the dead meat vs the mega meat?
Big fan of the Levi Morgan Swhacker 261. The practice setting is great and I've had no issue with the bands. The rubber tube deal also works well.
I prefer using the rubber tubes to the shrink bands. I just think there is an even less chance of that failing

Try the QAD Exodus full blade, I love that Broadhead and flys great and blade are super sharp and .040” thick, super tough

I love the aflictor k2 hybrid
You should really try them out and possibly do a video on aflictor broad heads
I wonder how much the glue affects the flight. My grim reapers which are the same ones you were testing are usually spot on to my field points.
Can you do a video of tuning your bow for the broadheads? I am going to shoot the deadmeats this fall, but, first year bow hunting and want to have everything squared away.
Dude, it’s always a great day when you post and right now I’m trying to buy my first Matthews it’s a Triax I really want to set it up like your bow.
Thanks for the video!!
could you do a video on your pick of mechanical and your pick of fixed blade and shoot 70 to see if it is worth going to one or the ohter.
Great video. Would have loved to see you compare Sevr to these since they are really similar. I realize Lancaster doesn’t sell them though. Keep up the good work.
Amazing Video! Your scientific approach is much appreciated!!!
I’m really glad I bought the Swhaker today. The other upside is that there’s less bulk closer to the riser of the bow incase the arrows are a little shorter.
I’d like to see a fixed blade test. Honestly….you put a video out, I’m gonna watch it. I enjoyed watching this video, really like the noise test.
