    #MechanicalBroadheads
    I had 16 different new mechanical broadheads left over from my testing in 2020 and decided to do a huge broadhead battle with a focus on durability. I structured it in a "Knock Out Round" format. I will shoot each head through a certain medium and remove any heads that break or bends significantly. Then I will shoot the remaining heads through another medium and remove any heads that break or bend significantly. And I will keep repeating this until there is one winner.
    The heads are: Jekyll & Hyde, Wasp Jackhammer, NAP Killzone, Sevr 1.5, Sevr Robusto, Rage Trypan All Steel, Rage Trypan NC, Swhacker 3 blade, Swhacker Two Blade Stainless Steel, Thrive, Muzzy X, Deepower Mechanical, Grim Reaper Mini Mag 4 Blade, Grim Reaper Hybrid, Afflictor Ultraviolet, and G5 Deadmeat.
    Here are the mediums I will be shooting them into:
    Round One: 3/8" plywood
    Round Two: Elk Scapula
    Round Three: .22 gauge steel plate
    Round Four: .22 gauge steel plate plus 3/8" plywood
    Round Five: Cinder Block
    This is going to be fun!

    pretty cool test I personally use NAP Killzone 2 inch cut , before that rage , grim Reaper's
    and NAP scorpions. In my opinion with expandable broadheads it's a one and done arrangement after it goes through a deer and is sticking in the ground that Brodhead gets screwed off the arrow and The arrow gets inspected and the Brodhead is taken off and thrown away , with all the time and money spent pursuing this sport I want a brand new one every shot ,and all of my hunting buddies follow that rule to.
    its all about your placement with any Broadhead they all work when you make a good shot

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I rarely re-use a broadhead. However, if a head is damaged while passing thru an animal, then it's not cutting effectively all the way thru an animal. If you kill that animal, then no problem. But I'd rather use a head that I'm confident will retain its integrity--no bent or broken blades/ferrules--all the way thru an animal. The chances of success are much greater that way.

      Thanks John. You can search Sevr Lusk here on TH-cam and find a lot of my tests of them and many hunts as well. There are some times that the blades of the 2.0 don't fully lock open...but even then, they're like any other "Gator" style head. The majority of the time the 2.0 lock well, and I've never had the 1.5 not lock open. They fly extremely well; one of the very best. Just shot a moose with one at 70 yards. That vid was posted last week.

    John, been watching/following your channel for a long time now, & this is first time that I HAVE 2 DISAGREE, with you... You broke the Robusto & because it out penetrated the 1.5 and actually stuck in so far - that they ONLY WAY to get it out, was for YOU to break it,,, I believe that the actual WINNER is the SEVER 2.0 ROBUSTO.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I can't disagree with you. I tried to convey that in the vid. It was a toss up. I couldn't really tell how much I broke the Robusto compared to how much it broke, cause it was inside the concrete. So it would be hard to declare it a winner when a chunk of it is missing :) But honestly, it's an amazing head. From other testing, I know the blades on the 1.5 are a bit more durable just cause they are shorter. And the tip on the 1.5 is more stout. But the Robusto is all steel, compared to the titanium of the 1.5. Truly a toss up.

    Cool test! Obviously, any of these heads held up to one bone impact on a game animal....which is generally all your going to get. I think this proves that it's largely irrelevant which head you choose...they all will get the job done with proper shot placement. On a different note, I've seen more recent testing showing the sevr broadhead not performing well against other heads in more "realistic" test mediums. In the end, they were all impressive....but definitely go with sevr if we end up at war shooting Chinese light armor instead of animals🤣.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Eric. Well, any head can be lethal...but many animals are lost to broken or bent or severely blunted blades. So I want to stack the odds as much in my favor as possible, by going with very durable heads.
      It's the angled impacts that are most difficult for broadheads to handle. Even the best of the best can get pretty beat up by an angled shot on a hard medium. But it's impossible to truly replicate those in testing, so I only go with tests that are very consistent.
      No doubt Sevrs are the most durable mech on the market...but also no doubt, they too can incur damage on angled, hard impacts on animals. But the way I see it, I'd rather use a head that can handle 5 shots thru steel plate and 3 into concrete than one that can't even handle one shot thru steel plate. If a Sevr can get beat up in an animal, how much more one of those others.

    Great test. Which mechanical out performs a cut on contact single bevel?? Answer IS,
    None.If I were to use one, it would be the Sevr.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, it depends on what “out performs” means. Most mechs will fly better than most cut in contact single bevels. Most mechs will make a much wider cut than most single fixed blades. So in those metrics, the mechs outperform the fixed blades. But for penetration and durability, most fixed single bevels will outperform most mechs.
      But for hunting something like whitetail or smaller hogs or turkey, all else equal, a top notch mech like a Sevr will fly better, make a wider cut, and still pass thru the animal-and thus they would “outperform” a 2 blade single bevel in lethality.

      @LuskArcheryAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Robusto is much stronger--the stainless they use is stronger than titanium. Titanium is great for its weight to strength ratio, but it's not as durable as most steels. With the narrow tip on the 2.0 and the Robusto, the Robusto will hold up better on hard impacts.

      Ok. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I used to feel the same, but have come to value a wide two blade with a cross tip over a three blade. The wider cuts typically stretches into an even wider cut once the animal starts moving. Whereas a 3 blade, smaller sized hole stays basically the same. And a typical two blade may ricochet easier than a 3 or 4 blade, but not with the Sevr, due to the swinging blades. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. Much appreciated.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I've seen those as well. Like any gator style opening head, the medium it impacts has to simulate hide; they're designed to open on hide. So putting tight leather or something like that in front of gel or foam opens them up. I've take a lot of animals with them now and they've never not opened. I prefer the 1.5 cause they even open on soft mediums due to the shorter blades.

    Single bevels are the way to go.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, single bevels have their strengths...and mechs have theirs. I've taken a lot of animals with both. Everything is a tradeoff in broadhead design. Mechs will make a MUCH larger hole and be MUCH more forgiving in flight. A typical single bevel head will be MUCH more durable and penetrate MUCH more deeply. For whitetail, I way prefer a top notch mech to a single bevel two blade, just because I know I'm going to get a lot more bloodletting. For Cape Buffalo, I prefer a two blade single bevel.

    I refuse to use ANY mechanical, they've ALL failed sometime!! G 5 montec fixed blades and never looked back. Zero failures in over a decade of use!!! Have several times shot through both shoulder blades and lungs and pulled it out of the ground and cleaned it off and they were still perfect and sharp enough to shave hair on my arm!! Of course they were all resharpened before use on another animal, but performance and re usability is why I only use those!!
