    Heyday was such a masterpiece that it's hard to believe this song was released just two years prior.

      +wes mantooth This is a great song, save for the horrible drum sound.

      +Nigelxman I do like this song actually, it's just the complexity of Heyday compared to this enjoyable yet simple song blows my mind.

    Nice to see Marty with his old Rickenbacker 330S/12, which was stolen about 20 years ago. I remember about 12 or so years ago, I saw him do a solo show, and he said that even if he did find the guitar, due to the way the American law is written (they were on tour Stateside when the left happened), the guitar legally belongs to whoever owns it now. I seem to recall he lost the Shergold 12 string that he's playing in the Electric Lash and Tantalized videos at the same time, as well.

    mixing engineer Nick Launay is responsible for the way the drums sound on this album, i think Nick and me are the only people that love the Seance drums, even the Church themselves wanted it changed ( Nick said no)

      What’s up with the drums? The sound is very dated and trendy for the time. Btw who’s idea was it force these guys to wear makeup?

    I think we need to up the ante Bret and show our Church a bit more 'evangelically' one of my all time fav bands and have been around enough to have caught them live on visits to london interesting history and managed to keep plodding along...

      More than 'plodding' my friend, probably better than ever in recent years.

      if it was commenting on music I meant plodding along in a good way my friend. Are you in the VC? No-one has gone through church back catalogue so I was thinking me and my mate sometime he is a bigger afficienado than myself so would like anything and related output.

      Hi Martin, sorry if my comment seemed a bit pithy, that's the unfortunate downside to text, you lose the tone of voice, nuance etc. Anyway I reckon your idea's a good one. Do a bit of trawling and see what we can turn up. By the way have you read Robert Dean Lurie's great biography 'No certainty attached- Steve Kilbey and The Church' ? if not do so it's well worth it, a real eye opener.

      Thats OK Mark, none taken. We are all just trying to explain our passion(s) no I've not heard of that book I'll look into that just read Morrisseys even though not a fan of him thats the best read in a while also picked up a 4AD one for a couple of quid in a book sale.

    I remember when Countdown started to do 'in house video's' where the bands no longer performed in front of a live studio audience, but had an actual set designed like this interesting backdrop. Time has not been kind to this song or video, the guys look so incredibly bored, especially Richard Ploog ... and the make up is so over the top, even for the 80's. Who's idea was the extreme close up? Electric Lash has become my least favourite song from the brilliant Seance album.

    • @jonahk
      @jonahk 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Peter Suchecki It's not my most favourite, but it's not my least favourite either. I hate the drum sound (electronic) but that goes for much of the album. One Day and Fly get away with it, but basically the drums ruin most of the album. The information yoiu have about Countdown is interesting, though.

      @@jonahk Yeah, the snare drum sound on Seance was terrible. Sounds like gunfire. According to Wikipedia, that was the work of mix engineer Nick Lauchey, who refused to remove the effect, despite the band's disapproval.

      The 90's...smoking cones with your mates...listening to "The CHURCH " ...getting ready for a B@S Ball..a better time!!!

      It’s one of the few good songs on Seance, IMHO. A very poor follow up to The Blurred Crusade.
