They are an incredible band...it just goes to show that people in general are like cattle and need to be 'herded" to what is POPULAR. The Church held this for a very brief point in time but either it was them, management, record companies, media or the herd that didnt stick with them and see it through. What a shame....but I always loved them and still do....40+ yrs on.
Richard Ploog is right on the money with the cymbals (lip sync track). These guys are timeless. I like the keyboard player and the color of Marty's guitar jack :) - excellent upload!
Marti with the beer is so funny. They don't care and it is cool and sweet. Steve just looks as if someone woke him up 30 min before the gig. I love it.
Wow. You just don't see old performances of the church with this kind of quality. Huge thank you to the OP. Steven looks kind of unsure of the whole thing. But, he is just a young pup. LOL. They sound great though.
Their second best song. Only Myrrh from Heyday is better. Jingle-jangle Rickenbacker and Fender is a priceless combination. The Church is the best band in the world. FANTASTIC :)
Richard Ploog and Bev Bevan are the only drummers I know of who hold the drum stick in their left hand in that strange, "traditional grip" but with the wrist facing down. I wonder how they came to adopt such a strange method?
this is how I was taught to play drums in primary school. It just grows within you, you don't adapt to a new method. After all these years when I get hold of a pair of drum sticks I place the sticks as you say in a 'strange traditional grip''. I guess Richard must of have been in a school band . Usually drummers from school bands adapt to this method. Anyhow, just a comment. Richard Ploog is a GREAT drummer. Met him once backstage SO COOL.
He sounds like a real character, judging from what Steve Kilbey says in his book. "President Camembert", indeed :) In regards to traditional grip, I'm a drummer and I sometimes do it too. I was in a CCR tribute band and I held the sticks like Cosmo Clifford, but my wrist was perpendicular to my body because that's how he holds them (same as Charlie Watts). Richard and Bev have their wrists facing down. I recently read that Bev once broke both wrists in an accident and that was how his strange technique came about. Funny to think that there might be a bunch of kids out there learning to hold their sticks in such an unusual manner. Cheers.
@@Scotttyist I never noticed that about Bev, but then it seems like most videos I've seen of ELO don't really focus on him that much. Or at least, you don't get a view of his hands well enough to see how he holds the sticks.
Génial !!!!
I don't get why they have not had more success. They are such a great band.

Great to be able to play fret-less bass and sing at the same time.
This is classic..great riffs on this tune.. they were so cool..
they still are :)
I'm seeing them in 2 weeks. small venue, can't wait..
My favorite Church song. Saw them at the Warfield in San Francisco in I think 1991 (Gold Afternoon Fix Tour).

agree with you mate
Richard Ploog is one of my favourite drummers, his touch and his timing are so distinct. Huge amount of space in his playing, it’s a rare thing.

What album was this song released on?
The blue crusade
@@lemilemi5385 This song is not on the album "The Blue Crusade" on Spotify... I believe that suppressing this was a cruel mistake...
PlAyback
Listening to this now, the two guitarists really carried the sound. Steve Kibley was not a good singer
You dont get it
