If you’re on the fence about these… GO TRY ONE! Just traded in my TRD PRO 4Runner for a 2025 OBW and I’m never looking back. Has all the mild off roading capabilities you need without sacrificing road comfort and MPG. It’s amazing. Lmk if you have questions
Yup, I sold my 2021 TRD off road 4runner that was lifted. I realized I was taking a hit in mpg's versus how much I went off pavement. I bought a 2025 Subaru Outback wilderness, its not as off road capable as a 4runner, but I don't really plan on nothing more than fire roads. Loving the difference in gas mileage.
Are you thinking about any mods for the OBW? I have a '23 OBW and I would like to try some trails (have to find some in my area first), but feel as though I could go a little more aggressive on the tires. Any recommendations on tires without having to do any additional modifications to get them to fit? Thanks!
Bought a 24 OBW this year and love it. 20 year Toyota family, but couldn’t justify the added cost combined with the quality issues they are having lately.
I went with the Onyx XT. I had a Crosstrek Wilderness but traded it for a better deal and better vehicle. I do mostly highway driving so I opted for a trim that best fit my needs. Love it!
They are hard to get (very few manufactured) but I think the Outback Wilderness without the moonroof is the ticket. It's the only 2025 AWD vehicle in a luxury trim that you can buy without having to take a moonroof but you still get premium audio, heated steering wheel, heated front + rear seats etc. And avoiding the moonroof saves you almost $2k. I never use a moonroof/sunroof, they have reduced head clearance, and are hotter and noisier than a solid roof, and they eventually end up leaking if you keep the vehicle long term.
You can get the turbo in the limited, but it's an option where it's standard in the wilderness and may even be standard with the touring, which is the way I would get my outback would be the touring XT.
Great review! Living in Montana I always had a 4WD truck or 4Runner. 10 years ago bot my first Subaru. On my third on now. With All Wheel drive and snow tires and I never worry about road conditions - the Subi with get me there.
@@henrysilver2134I doubt that a car model changes every year cause that would be a lot of money for a company to spend. It mostly changes every 3-4 years when the facelift arrives
I own a '22 Outback Premier Edition. Lots to love, but also some things to hate. One of my biggest complaints is that damn laptop they have jammed into the dash! It looks cool, but unless they have made some serious changes it is often slow to respond, which distracts from your driving. (Three steps to adjust the seat heater!) My second big complaint is handling in windy conditions. This car is all over the road in a strong crosswind. Not to mention noisy! On the positive side are the multitude of safety implementations. Plus, the car is extremely roomy and comfortable.
44k is kinda stupid tbh. What are all the options on this specific trim?? I wiuld assume almost everything from premium speakers to most premium interior trims
Hmm, I have a 22 Outback Wilderness with the turbo engine. I get 34 mpg highway. Still that is less mpg than the 2019 3.6R Outback Touring I traded in and less than the 750 hp McClaren hypercar that gets 35 mpg highway.
The CVT is a no for me. The dumbest thing all car manufacturers are doing is putting in these awful transmissions that can't be repaired and must be replaced at a ridiculous price. Subaru is dead to me.
The way you're talking I think you need to do more research on Subarus and those CVT transitions you mentioned are what's called fake gear shifts which I cannot believe Subaru is still doing because it is incredibly inefficient and they need to eliminate those and stop wasting fuel economy and power efficiency for the sake of marketing to try to get people not to notice it is a CVT instead of old school gears, no one cares anymore we just want the most power and gas mileage even if it "whines" but to me it sounds great to let it rev high and the only whiners are the customers who do not understand how CVT's work.
DO NOT BUY if you are looking to use the rated 3500 pound towing capacity you are being misled! Subaru does NOT offer trailer brake hookup on this vehicle even though they rated it for 3500 pounds and its the law to have trailer brakes st that weight! Subaru does not offer this, making it incapable! If you go to third party you risk bad work not being covered by warranty.
You'd be surprised, this thing is a beast off road and in heavy snow and mud. It is a nice combo of comfort and capable. Obviously its not a 4runner but take a 12 hour drive from Phoenix to San Fran and tell me which you'd rather be in.
Great review, thank you. I want to love it, with all the plastic cladding and CVT I just can’t justify the price. Great in the city but don’t try and pass a vehicle in the mountains with this one!!
For the engineering and features this vehicle is a bargain, you can tell me that you can get a different car at a cheaper price with the same technology?
I bought an 2024 Outback Wilderness in May. Black exterior. It's a tough looking car. Love it.

I’m hearing a lot of bad reviews on Toyota products lately

Would it be dumb to modify a Touring XT into a luxury camping car or just get the wilderness?

Hey Ben I've been watching your videos whenever I look for a car.
Haven't seen you since you grew the beard, looking wise 👌

Wilderness or Touring XT with outdoor upgrades? I love the luxury upgrades in the Touring XT but love the trim of the wilderness. Ugh.
Do the windshields crack easily on these vehicles?
Traded 24 Onyx for a 25 Wilderness and the difference is shocking.
Just say it’s exactly like the 2024 model……
Right!? What is the difference? It seems exactly the same

If I trade my truck I might get one of these. Id loose massive towing ability but then again down size to a tear drop camper should be good.
They do not offer trailer brake hook-ups, so the 3500 pound rating is not true!
Did they change anything at all from 24?
Does it have Apple CarPlay?
Wireless Apple and Android play
I wish it had a larger gas tank, physical climate controls, and in-dash CD player, a physical key, and that they would delete the auto-stop.
lol cd players are gone and never coming back.
Isn’t it an 18 gallon tank? I can drive this thing for like 10 hours without needing to fill up.
A CD player is available, just not in the dash. Auto start/stop can be turned off (4:35).
Exactly. Old school, like my 2008!😅

most of the upcharge is the turbocharger
I found out that this is the exact same power train as the ascent
Yup. One of the reasons I went wilderness. I figured if it can haul the heavy ascent and handle that tow weight it can for sure last in the outback.
Ben do a wilderness comparison video
104 degrees and you are in a flannel!
Does this thing tell you to stop for coffee?
Every few miles in Seattle. I also stops at all rainbow crosswalks, and homeless camps.
Outback you enjoy with it. It's a cool car
My Outback Tourinng XT is the best Outback!
I never had a Subaru before. Capital one gave me 60k for the Subaru dealership. So I’m trying to see what to get.
Umm, 60k? Get two Outback base models.
I find it hard to believe they gave you 60K, I am guessing they offered to loan you up to 60K in financing?

Anything above 16mpg and enjoyable is fantastic!

Basically, nothing changes..
Turbos are bad and the Subarus use silicone sealer instead of gaskets.
many car companies are going to sealer. instead of gaskets. .
Taking a CVT off road? Not sure about that one.
