He really wasn't though.... his "fights" with Liu Kang, just like almost all the other fights, pretty much sucked. I couldn't believe that he wasn't a more skilled fighter than that. Yes, I expect better from MK fight cinematography and choreography considering all the martial arts movies we have to go off of. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon did hook swords WAYYYYY more justice and they only used them for like 20 seconds..... The main reason the fights sucked (and the movie overall) is because the production team sucks, from the writer, director, producer & fight choreographers. None of them did the job to the fullest capability & especially whoever was in charge of the kasting, probably played a big part in them being limited in their options for fight choreography, as only 4 of them has vast experience in movie martial arts & stuntwork (Joe Taslim, Lewis Tan, Max Huang & Hiroyuki Sanada, the last of whom is 60 years old & limited in what he can do.... Kane Kosugi would have made a better Hanzo now.) They botched the kast hard, even within the kasting choices they did make. Sisi Stringer should be Nitara & Mel Jarnson should have been Kitana & the kasting would be a bit better on that alone. Even then, Nathan Jones should be a human Moloch. Other than that, the kasting was TERRIBLE. This is how MK kasting should be in live action (before you say it, yes MK needs a big budget but the supposed biggest film studio in the world won't open up their wallets to make the best possible live action franchise for the most popular fighting video game franchise ever. Why is it that franchises like Transformers and Resident Evil can get 5-6 movies and big budgets for their movies but MK gets stuck with only a planned Trilogy starting with that absolutely lackluster travesty of an attempt at a MK movie on a 55M budget? Even Expendables series gets 100M budgets for their movies..... even the god damn Power Rangers reboot got a 100M budget for it's FIRST MOVIE but MK can't get 100-200M? That MK 11 Kabal, is just a pre Black Dragon. Cause in MK9/X Kabal is still a revenant. And Kano had to ask Kronika for Kabal before he scared, a a young and cunning one. Kano was very reminesent on him during his time in the Black Dragon in MK 9.
I was confused a bit myself over Kabal. Playing the later games I remember thinking “wasn’t this guy supposed to be sorta like a anti-hero?” I could have swore that his tragic backstory with his injury painted him as character ripe for being a misunderstood hero. You have a guy who is horribly disfigured who has to wear a menacing looking mask and is a member of criminal organization. People would understandably see him as a bad guy but that’s where the tragicness would come that he really is a good guy. Think of it like the Hunchback of Norte Dame or the Elephant Man. I think the later games and the latest movie did my man Kabal dirty.
Most MK characters fall on one side or another, but Kabal was a natural anti-hero. It's a shame its always squandered. The new movie does him no justice either in this regard.
I always saw him as an Anti-hero just like scorpion, even rain feels like an anti hero in the lore, but in the story mode sometimes there is no time to explore these characters, scorpion got a realy good character arc in netherrealm trilogy and I hope that they explore some of the other characters in future games

@@alano2475 no, you seem to be confusing depth with development my boy. Depth has to do with a character having deeper aspects to themselves that you wouldn't have expected upon first seeing them. For instance zuko would have depth since despite how cruel and cut throat he appeared to be he deeply cared about his uncle and was willing to honor deals he made. Vegeta is a monster through and through with him only ever making deals when there is a sadistic element to them, and making it clear time and time again that he didn't care about anyone else but himself until he the android arc. As for development, again unlike zuko who grew gradually throughout the series and his mindset was taken apart and looked at peace by piece, vegeta remained the same for two arcs only changing near the end of the cell saga which even then is based on a relationship we don't get to see fully develop and are instead told about. I think most dragonball fans conflate vegeta having the most development in the series with being well developed overall.
These lore videos are great so far! Been seeing so many hot takes on MK about how it’s all about gore and violence and that’s it. The stories of these individual characters need more spotlight than they have been receiving as of late.

I see Kabal as a Neutral/Anti-Hero character. Similar to Scorpion, Erron Black & Havik. Kabal needs a better story retelling don't make him just a black dragon thug. Have him seek redemption have him become more of Anti Hero. Not a good guy or bad guy but keep him Neutral & Mysterious.
I would have loved this story of Kabal. I’ve loved this character ever since I first saw him and he’s been my favourite Mortal Kombat character of all time since, and I want a redemption story of Kabal because I’m sick of Black Dragon Thug Kabal and I wanna see Vigilante Redemption Kabal.
This is why I've been upset without they been treating Kabal's character because this is how I always viewed his character and it actually makes him more interesting as well than just being a generic bad guy similar to how they did Sindel in MK 11.
I can't find anything online but remember reading a gaming magazine where it had a fan contest and kabal stryker nightwolf were the winners and were added to game but I also remembered that styker was Jax mk1 at one point so if anyone can't link info if they have anything the only thing I found was some screens hots that lead to nothing

Kabal in the movie has no story, he just shows up with the bad guys, persuades Kano to betray the good guys and dies a pretty nice looking death. That's how bad the movie handles such a cool character... This new movie is a shit show!!

I literally _just_ saw the new _Mortal Kombat_ film. Personally? For me it was a HUGE disappointment. I hated the character of Cole and felt let down that the legacy characters got so few moments of screentime. (I was also secretly hoping that Robin Shou would make a cameo...but alas, he did not.) Anyways, the reason I'm here is because I was intrigued by Kabal's character in the film. Not gonna lie. His voice was _incredibly_ sexy. To the point that I was furiously googling the cast to find out who played him. (Turns out it's 2 separate guys; one for the body and a different guy for the voice). I wanted to know the story behind his past with Kano, and you did not disappoint! I REALLY enjoyed your video. And (obvs you already know this,) but you are absolutely correct on _all accounts_ when it comes to Wikipedia; the entry there is...lacking, to say the least. So as someone who is ONLY familiar with the films (I was like 12 years old when the 1995 _Mortal Kombat_ film was released) I appreciate the info you provided here! ❤️

kabal always been my favorite since mk3 to mk9 and it really just sucks for what they did to him. as a whole i think mk (as much as i love it) doesn't seem to follow any form of consistencies at all. i hope your words are heard among the mk11 writers. and to be honest, i think if you, tabmok99 and 5thsnake wrote an mk storyline it'll be something all mk fans (including myself) been dreaming of.

This felt pretty deep for a Black Dragon member. I liked Kabal in terms of design and combat skills, and maybe, he might be written better.

Kabal is great, also he has my favorite skin in mk11 with the Jason voorhees one.

I see Kabal as a Neutral/Anti-Hero character. Similar to Scorpion, Erron Black & Havik. Kabal needs a better story retelling don't make him just a black dragon thug. Have him seek redemption have him become more of Anti Hero. Not a good guy or bad guy but keep him Neutral & Mysterious.
Kabal is personally my favorite mk character so I really hope we get good guy kabal in the movie

I get what they were trying to do with him turning evil again in the old timeline, but like scorpions constant morality turn, it lacked substance.
I would have loved this story of Kabal. I’ve loved this character ever since I first saw him and he’s been my favourite Mortal Kombat character of all time since, and I want a redemption story of Kabal because I’m sick of Black Dragon Thug Kabal and I wanna see Vigilante Redemption Kabal.

This is why I've been upset without they been treating Kabal's character because this is how I always viewed his character and it actually makes him more interesting as well than just being a generic bad guy similar to how they did Sindel in MK 11.

Kabal in the movie has no story, he just shows up with the bad guys, persuades Kano to betray the good guys and dies a pretty nice looking death. That's how bad the movie handles such a cool character... This new movie is a shit show!!

I literally _just_ saw the new _Mortal Kombat_ film. Personally? For me it was a HUGE disappointment. I hated the character of Cole and felt let down that the legacy characters got so few moments of screentime. (I was also secretly hoping that Robin Shou would make a cameo...but alas, he did not.)
Anyways, the reason I'm here is because I was intrigued by Kabal's character in the film. Not gonna lie. His voice was _incredibly_ sexy. To the point that I was furiously googling the cast to find out who played him. (Turns out it's 2 separate guys; one for the body and a different guy for the voice). I wanted to know the story behind his past with Kano, and you did not disappoint! I REALLY enjoyed your video. And (obvs you already know this,) but you are absolutely correct on _all accounts_ when it comes to Wikipedia; the entry there is...lacking, to say the least. So as someone who is ONLY familiar with the films (I was like 12 years old when the 1995 _Mortal Kombat_ film was released) I appreciate the info you provided here! ❤️

kabal always been my favorite since mk3 to mk9 and it really just sucks for what they did to him. as a whole i think mk (as much as i love it) doesn't seem to follow any form of consistencies at all. i hope your words are heard among the mk11 writers.
