      @@teabag3620 actually that's not bullshittin, if you can get your mind off eating and more on doing something or having the task maybe suck on some iceyou'll probably have an easier time and doing the fast then you would be sitting in the chair doing nothing. The mind likes to do things in the mind likes to attend to doing things and eating is one of those things, so getting your mind off of that it's probably really effective.

    i tried fasting once. I ended up at McDonalds by 4am cause i couldnt sleep i was so hungry. My purchase at McDonalds that night was $37.
    Edit: for those saying i must be obese; im actually 6'2, 230 pounds, workout 4 times a week in great shape. I just eat a lot of food.

    The best way to fasting is to sleep a lot, just sleep the whole day if you can😂 and do not ever forget to drink water so you feel full on something.

      I did this before for 30 days and lost about 60 and managed to keep the weight off for a couple of years and yes it was actually hard to put back on but im doing it again this year so far im a week in and 15 pounds lost

    I'm currently on a 2 week complete water fast, absolutely no calories consumed. I'm feeling completely fine, just slightly lathargic. I don't feel hungry and I'm not really missing food. I would definitely recommend it to anyone dealing with digestive issues

      Gwiyo Minghao been depressed for a month now due to a very close family member passing away, at first it was terrible I dint even ate mornings or evenings , even nights, got to the point where I was feeling so sick at times and wanted to throw up , I was 173 and I ended up losing over 30 pounds during last month, now Im Starting to eat more and it’s getting a lot better , so FOR ALL OF YOU OUT THERE!       Start with a 24hr, then a 36hr, then a fast at 48hr, a 72hr fast,,,, and on to a 7 day fast

      4th day.. Feeling bit weak and my sleep is gone. I feel tired But slept only 6 hourse on 3rd night. Other than that it's going good. Playing video games keeps me distracted from foodie thoughts. It's really hard to distract your mind from eating thoughts. Like i usually take 30 mins to finish my meal so total of 1 hour is only time I'm consuming food in 24 hour on regular basis but my mind keeps thinking about that 1 hr food break for rest of 23 hours.
      Sorry for my sucky ducky english.

    The comparison is misleading. You weighted yourself right after a binge of 5000 kcal, of course you weighted 2-3 kg more than usual (due to water retention). Also, at the end you still kept most of your fat (in the belly) and look skinnier in the upper body. That's because you lost mostly water, especially intramuscular water. So, people, do not do this, it is plain stupid.

      Dania Lilac Not completely. Burning muscle down is the fastest way our body has to get energy. Only if both nutrition and exercising are proper, then MOST of the weight lost will be from fat but some muscle will still be lost (unless you are a complete novice). Alternatively, one can try to go into ketosis by not eating carbs at all, but 1 week is not enough (you enter ketosis after 7-10 days, so before you still lose mostly water).

      Actually you enter ketosis much faster 4-5 days (i tested my self with ketostick) an during the first days you indeed burn muscle but after you enter ketosis you mostly burn fast i did 3 fast (9-12-21days) the only thing to keep in mind is drink water with a little salt and walk a lot.
      edit: break your faster with bone broth... sugary food is the worst aka fruits

    Good for you man! thats awesome! I have gone through numerous 7 day fasts with water only. I know they aren't easy. Like you said, the first 3 days are tough with the cravings but on the 4th day you have tons of energy and don't crave anything hardly. At that point, its a mental game. I'm going to embark on a 30-day fast here soon

    I was sick for 1 week I wasn't eating anything. I was sleeping in a hospital. Anything I try to eat I used to vomit. I was suffering from blood infection, pneumonia and liver problems. I lost 8kgs. After I came out from the hospital I was so weak that I could barely walk

      In 2014, the same week Robin Williams passed away a friend of mine was drunk and fell 5-6 meters off a wall. He broke his left wrist, back and neck. I saw the whole thing. He spent two weeks in hospital and didnt shit for the first week. The nurse gave him an enema. The other patients in the ward applauded him as he finally took a massive dump that they all heard as they were close to the toilet.

      Absolutely. One of the bones in there. The doc said he was lucky he didnt paralyse himself. When I came down off the wall and saw him and how broken his wrist was I felt a slight relief knowing the bones in his wrist took the brunt of the impact. They were sticking out on an angle but wern't torn through the skin. He was barely moaning. Just so chilled out but not concussed. Weird huh!

    Just a word of caution as someone who has done several water fasts. This is not something to endeavor lightly. It's likely that not everyone will feel as well on a water fast as this guy did, especially those with chronic health conditions. The process of entering ketosis can be a very painful one for some people, and the consequential acute detox can be challenging and should really be done in a monitored setting. Also, for many people, exercise during this time should be extremely minimal and light. It should be confined to gentle walking, maybe a swim, or very gentle yoga. One size doesn't fit all. Go carefully when embarking on water fasts.

    I had throat surgery 8 days ago, and haven't eaten anything since the day before surgery. I have lost 9 kilos and am still not able to eat anything. I started at 85 kg and am down to 76,7 kg now. So yeah, lost quite some weight. It really sucks.

      Personally eating less over a period of time and sometimes not eating at all has caused my stomach to shrink and I'm not as hungry in general. I felt sick over the holidays looking at all the food I was being given to eat by my family lol. (I used to be able to eat anything and stuff myself) I'm sure he will be fine.

      Berdan Aricioglu actually, your body retains muscle and attacks fat, scar tissue, and other waste materials first before it touches your muscles. the only thing it takes from your muscles is the glucose energy you store in them. That is possibly why they say your muscle mass goes down when you fast. But the idea of your body cannibalizing your own muscle before touching fat is a complete myth.

      Steven Gordon i apologise, no need to get feisty. fasting didn’t directly trigger my anorexia but it was a factor. of course not everyone will react the same way but at least some people (even if it’s just one person) will. fasting can be healthy when done correctly and at the right age and as long as your not prone to any mental illnesses throughout it.

    I saw this video earlier this year. Wanted to mention this video inspired me to lose weight. While I'm not obese, i was about 25lbs overweight. I didn't go the fasting route but i started with a vegetable diet for the first few days, then added fish along with exercise. After 4 weeks of just veggies, fish, and exercise, i went from 160lbs to 142lbs. I'm currently 146lbs and eat better and continue to work out. So thank you.

    I'm gonna write a long one. Straight up honest experience from somebody who's actually done that. At around age 25 I ate very little for probably 3 weeks to a month, mostly proteins, more energy bars than anything because hell I wasn't cooking, and alot of redbull too. Not great choice on foods.I biked at least 4 miles pretty much every day and tried to avoid sitting on the seat as much as possible (it really helped not having a car) and when stationary was sitting on an exercise ball doing fake sit ups or fidgeting, the idea was to pretty much always be in motion. There was also a decent amount of push ups and real sit ups in there as well. Was dropping weight faster than what they say is healty, 1-2 pounds a day but I did feel fantastic, like brimming with energy gonna explode. Was pushing 160 and that diet got me down to my lowest adult weight 133. It changed my metabolism afterwards as well was not gaining any weight after getting back into the sedentary grind. Sometimes I got bothered because skin was still elastic enough to detract and felt too tight around hip bones. Yep, sometimes, when biking pretty good with relatively little calories to spare I swear I could literally feel fat 'burning' from the midsection. I was often of a mentality of being in the 'profit zone' if I was doing cardio without calories. I went HAM then and I would do it again, It's been 5 or so years and I can afford to eat better and the weight has slowly returned to 150ish. My personal experience in that such an extreme though is something I would recommend to only the most virile youths. Other people obviously would need to take it easier.My point is though, that modesty with food in combination with real cardio (seriously bikes to save on knee cartilage) is the real key. Our bodies are entirely ready and able to go a day without food. Gotta play it by ear. Fads and standard diets are just sub par. We're still married to the three meals a day thing. Breakfast I don't doubt is the most healthy meal of the day but we're also still under the effects of the worlds first pr stunt, when a bacon company got more sales by getting 300 or so doctors to say a large breakfast was healthy, bacon company got -some NY newspaper if I remember right to publish what the doctors had said about a large breakfast and boom more bacon sales.If you do go for a very low calorie diet just play it by how up to it your body is feeling and always carry a snack if you find you've exerted yourself too much.

      Yeah, no, what he is experiencing day 5 and beyond is not ketosis, that starts only a few hours after your last meal. His digestive system has finally basically gone into sleep mode and is no longer consuming as much energy to stay ready for food. This means more energy for the rest of his functions. Also, his brain has finally gotten used to not having food so it stops trying to force him into hibernation mode and just gets on with life.
      Many people do fasts of 30 days and longer. There was a morbidly obese man in Scotland that fasted for a little over a year (under doctors supervision) living only on water and a few supplements. He shed nearly half his body weight, down to a healthy level, and 5 years later had only put back on 11 pounds and showed no negative side effects from his record breaking fast.

      Probably. Which is why you're supposed to eat very little when you break your fast and slowly increase food consumption over a few days. (your body will try to desperately replenish your sugar and fat reserves)

    I'm on day 8 of a water fast and have felt pretty crappy the whole time! There are a few things that could account for it: The days before I fasted I mainly ate fruit. Not enough calories and mainly sugar? Probably bad. Also, my schedule has kept me from consistently getting a good night's sleep. Both of those things I think contributed to it. Nice job on the fast, man!

    I just entered a phase where my body doesn't feel hungry at all. It is weird. I dont have ANY appetite lately. I eat a small sandwhich and the whole day I never feel hungry, no stomach growl. It takes about 2 days until my appetite starts running and I feel hungry again, BUT not the usual hunger. Instead I just feel slightly hungry on day 2. So I was curious and went to the doctor why im not hungry. And they just say my body works differently, and recommend I buy vitamin gummies so i can get my vitamins if im not hungry... It sucks, it ruins my lifestyle, i kinda cant enjoy food anymore because i jus cant seem to force myself to get an appetite, especially buffets!! When my friend ask me to sushi I went and never felt hungry and when i ate one plate of like 8 rolls and i was done and feel very full alreasy. And then my friend thought i was doing a method call fastening. I told her No, I wasn't. My body is jus not hungry and works differently. I feel fine no sluggish feel or anything, Im always energetic and it is jus a weird thing to experience at age 24

      I have been thinking about doing something similar Except what has held me back as are the weight loss results similar when you eat a sandwich a day, and that being your only meal as opposed to completely giving up everything and just having water? i’ve heard so many different answers on this on the Internet, and any insight on this would be great.     fasting for a week can be good for your body, but a healthy diet after is important
    you must however drink a lot of water

      I'm talking about very rarely for that long, but notice how i say healthy diet as recovery, i meant micro nutrients aswell to replenish. But you can very easily fast your body can go very very long without food. I usually fast for 18 hours and eat for 6 and sometimes do day fasts to help shock and deplete glycogen stores in the body on cuts. I think of it as a useful tool to help insulin sensitivity, allow for HSL concentrations in the blood to remain high, and the usage of the fat stores as energy.

      Sure, you lose some muscle while fasting. But your levels of Human Growth Hormone (hGh) increase when you're fasting. That means that when you start eating again, you regain all lost muscle without gaining back the fat. Depending on what you eat, of course.

    when I was a teenager, I had a depressive period ( a year ), I ate almost once per day, and I lost so much muscles ! even though I ate ! I lost 15kg ( from 75 to 60 )

      TheCao The only reason why you're dead when you fast during Ramadan is because you must fast for a short period of time.
      If you only fast for 12hrs, your body is still in "glucosis." But if you fast to the point your body is in Ketosis, & KEEP your body in Ketosis, you'll be amazed how much stronger you will feel. & if you don't have type 1 diabetes, it's much healthier.

    Impressive work! Its insane that you lost almost 8kg in a week. I did the numbers and you lost 7,7kg of which 3,43kg were fat and 4,27kg were mostly water, glycogen depletion and some muscle(we always lose a bit of it). Honestly its amazing what a good water fast can do.

      @@laurachristinabetancourt1 You only have to take kcal intake and kcal burned during the day, having into account that, if we dont eat, most of energy comes from first glucógen storage and then fat, you have to calculate the following:
      Kcal burned during the day * days fasted
      Then, we know a kg of fat is 7700kcal aprox, so when you know how much weigth you lost, you must subtract your total energy expenditure for the entire time of the fast from the total weigth lost.
      So an example.
      I decide to go on a fast of 7 days. I use an estimated 2500kcal daily. That comes out to be 17500kcal.
      After my fast, I lost 6kg. We multiply 6kg by the amount in kcal .
      6*7700 = 46200kcal
      We subtract the previous amount and turn it back to kg = 46200 - 17500 = 28700/7700 = 3.72kg
      So with this data, we can get an approximate of 3.72kg lost from water and muscle( normally mostly water) and 2.28kg of fat lost.
      This isn't acurrate since every body is different but its a good approximation of how much fat you can expect to lose on a fast. Remember, objective should always lose fat and partly water,.never muscle!

    to everyone here your body attacks fat before it does muscle I have experimented with my doc sure your muscles look smaller due to no carbs but fat is the main source of energy in ketosis

      Muscle is the last thing the body wants to use for energy. It creates glucose from carbs to use for energy (Normal Diet) or, It creates Ketones by burning fat for energy (Fasting or on a Ketonic Diet). Then it finally moves onto muscle.

      Chris, if your body preferred muscle, you'd quickly die once your body broke down your heart or diaphragm for energy. Most fat is literally there almost entirely to store energy.
      You'll lose some muscle definition if you don't exercise, but fat will be used first.

      Uhh... no... it's called ketosis, it's a relatively new diet fad but it's been around for quite a while. Body builders love it because they can take in proteins and fats to maintain muscle mass while burning fat during a cut. It's not for the faint of heart... it's hard on your kidneys... you need to maintain hydration religously... and deal with a severe lack of energy for the first few days of the ketosis cycle as your body isn't prepared to deal with the lack of carbohydrates. I gave it a shot, and while I cheat as I end up with some carbohydrates from fruits, I've lost about 11 lbs. in a month maintaining a healthy calorie intake (1700-1900 daily) while working out twice a week.
