      Imo this is your best lesson yet. Blues is what got me into guitar and this is the lesson that has got me playing in time and improvising in a style i love. I wish I could shake your hand, if it wasn't for you doing these lessons all for free there's no way I would have stuck with it. Cheers from Canada - you rock!!

    Justin I am finding these invaluable, I skipped a lot of the fundamentals when I was a young psychedelic hippy guitarist, over the years I embraced theory and periodically come back to the roots, I am having a blues renaissance, but the greatest joy right now was going to our local priddy folk fayre here in Somerset west England and buying a tanglewood steel string for my youngest son who will be 18 tomorrow, at his behest might I add, I have turned him on to your channel, and this skater boy/photographer on his way to art school uni in London will have the company of this wonderful instrument and all the adventures that lay ahead, I can't thank you enough, cheers mate.

    Great teaching Justin, if you haven't seen Justin and Chris Buck it's a must watch. Justin teaches, he is not here to impress people with his skills. As a 69 year young beginner I like that he bluntly says it's the 5th string or 3rd string. For those who give the string name G B e, it sends me to Eddie Ate Dynamite Good Bye Eddie and takes more time and makes me "fall off the groves" trying to find the string. If you know the string names great but you can also count the strings. Hats off Justin🎩

    I know Ive seen Justin play this shuffles dozens of times in various videos; and I bet you can add a few thousand to that with the times he's played off camera. After all that I see the same enthusiasm and finesse in every strum. Just pure enjoyment in the moment! Probably my number 1 reason for wanting to learn guitar....just that true in the moment focus on something you love. 3 weeks in and "3 little birds" is slowly coming together. Thanks Justin!...will certainly be buying app subscription when finances allow. Really appreciate the free stuff. I better soak up before you realize that you're giving away gold plated info! 😉

    Hey, Justin I have been watching your TH-cam videos recently and it’s been great. I’ve been wanting to learn how to play guitar ever since This quarantine began and I finally got my first electric guitar a couple of days ago and I’m ready to learn. But I’m not really sure how I should start in terms of learning how to play. You think you can help me out? If you could great! Keep up the good work and the videos, always so inspiring to watch you play

    • @CP-hi5pn
      @CP-hi5pn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I may...I'm in your same boat, only about 3 weeks ahead. I just got a guitar out of the shop freshly set up at the end of October. I've used Justin's lessons every step of the way. I assume people learn in different ways so I wont push my routine, but maybe I can tell you some things I underestimated in hopes that you can expect as you experience them and know that it will get better
      1. I underestimated the finger pain - Justin talks about this very often but I think experiencing it is different and I probably over practiced the first few days and pressed to hard. It got to the point where my mind was willing but the flesh on my finger tips was weak (About 7 days to go away, now I feel it but I can get through a practice session everyday without issue
      2. The connection that is made with each note - for me I see it as a triangle between the strum, the fretted note and my brain. To play a clean note/chord all three of these points have to happen at the same time and if one is off (happens very often), my note suffers
      3. The temptation to go above and beyond your limits - I LOVE LOVE LOVE the blues and its so tempting to branch out and start trying things I'm not ready for. Its easy to get discouraged that way, because you get quickly reminded how far the road is. I will say that I think learning the minor pentatonic scale position 1 is a good use of extra time when the first chords get boring. The scale makes you work on your finger interdependence which is certainly needed as you progress.
      Good luck as you continue and stick with it, use a metronome at the slowest speed when you're ready...... for everything.
      Above all, ENJOY!!

    • @leocortez4658
      @leocortez4658 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CP-hi5pn wow I did not expect this. Thank you so much. Yeah the finger pain came as soon as I started. I really need to work on my fingers interdependence since I haven’t played an intrument before enough to get my fingers to position the way it should. I’m going to keep trying it has been something I’ve been wanting to do for a while. Thank you so much for your input I’ll definitely use it.

    Hi Justin! I see performers at venues reference a song sheet they made and brought. and when the audience asks for something off the set list they go to it. I have tried to create sheets to reference the chords and anything to help remember something i havent played for years but cant seem to find a clear way of entering data. What should we have on them?
