Fluorescent orange minerals

  • The following mineral specimens in my collection glow orange under longwave ultraviolet (UV) light - which is often called a black light:
    an inclusion in Cockeysville marble
    lapis lazuli (including sodalite)
    pink tourmaline
    a reddish purple stone
    a greenish set of beads with "chatoyance"
    red jasper
    botryoidal chalcedony
    These are all very different minerals, but they react similarly to the rays from my longwave UV light.
