You do realise it is legal in the UK from Henry the 8th time. Whether good or bad it's here. I think he wrote the law to get a male child from a close member of the royal family. More to do with power and consolidation than anything. Which is why certain families encourage it.

I've got a Bangladeshi friend, that married one of his cousins but she ran off when she came here and got Westernised after seeing how women are treated differently here. This mate of mines family has always married into each other. His sister is mute and he has a deformed hand so there is medical truth in this.

As an American, I am surprised to hear that many or most people did not know this was an issue in the UK.
I went to University in England in the 1980’s, and I knew about it then. I had classmates whose parents were first cousins or were being pressured to marry their first cousins.
What is not talked about in this reporting is how these marriages are multi-generational. Going back generations my classmates ancestors were first or second cousins. The reasoning was very tribal-one could count on their family in times of crisis. The State (their country)? Not so much.
This is why they don’t integrate with society as a whole. The general fear of what may happen in a crisis.
An Iranian student said to me she knew that as a Roman Catholic I wasn’t allowed to marry my first cousin. I told her no, that marrying my first cousin was illegal in my state in the US. (24 US states in is illegal-many others have restrictions).
I will NEVER forget the shocked look on her face when I said “illegal”. She is the one who came from multiple generations of first cousins (including parents) and was being pressured to marry her first cousin.
Edit: This student and her family all lived in England. She was born in England but was of Persian ancestry.

Some Queer theorists are advancing the acceptabilbity of incest. They rejct all boundaries, including the adult child boundary, and the parent child boundary. Ryan Thornycroft, in an academic paper, Cripping Incest, qutes from Judith Butler. He writes, "I am also reminded of Butler’s (2004: 157) comment that: ‘I keep adding this qualification: “when incest is a violation,” suggesting that I think that there may be occasions in which it is not’. If violence does transpire, it is ‘by virtue of the consciousness of social shame’" (Butler 2004: 157). I think that this will be another Woke project!

but there are people who’ve given birth after the age of 35 and their children have came out completely fine. The comparisons don’t seem to make sense to me 🤷🏼‍♀️ and in anyways 35 isn’t too old to have your first child. Yes you’ll probably have some complications but that comes with every pregnancy. This is why I’m saying like I don’t get the comparisons because they’re not the same thing.

    • @cafsixtieslover

My daughter had both her children when she was in her late thirties and they are fine. So did a lot of her friends. Girls marry later nowadays. My cousin had a Down's Syndrome child when she was in her early thirties so age does not necessarily have anything to do with it.

Likewise, if you know there's a very high risk of having children with serious, life long medical issues by marrying your 1st cousin, you should have to pay for any medical treatment, NOT the taxpayers via the NHS. In short, take responsibility and pay for your own mistakes, in full. 😠
