Hey man, just wanted to say I've been watching your channel for a while. You helped me get into one bag travel, and I've loved your videos the while time. Thanks!
15:30 shows off an issue I have looking for a skinny backpack as a tallboi. A lot of bags just sit quite high on the body! They push up far past the shoulders, and then only go down to my like lower back. Usually when bags are increased in size they only go out horizontally, making them wider and cubey - but why not go longer! I've got the back real estate!
The CPL28 is taller, so is the Goruck GR1 26L(matterful.co/i/goruck-gr1/) and the largest Knack backpack is quite tall as well (matterful.co/i/knack-pack-business-travel-backpack/). Love my tall boiz.
Just realised that I've been following you since 2015-16 after backing the minaal and finding your channel. I was already a nerd, but now I'm also a bag nerd! Thanks, I guess... haha
I bought my first ever goods backpack the 22 L after watching your review and now I’m thinking I would also like to have the 24 L. Being 75 and weighing 125 I’m wondering if I could carry both of them have one in the overhead and one under my seat when I fly to Europe. I love the fabric on my 22 L, even though I get dog hair on it, it’s so worth it! I took everything for a three day trip to San Francisco, totally comfortable! PS I love your reviews!!
If I was doing a 2-bag setup mainly for travel I'd either go with a compact roller bag (that easily fits in overhead for intl' flights), or a duffel (like the the Boundary Aegis or Peak 35 here: matterful.co/c/duffel/). Carrying two backpacks gets wonky in transit. 🙏
Chase Reeves Thank you!! I’ve traveled with two backpacks... not fun. I’ll look into a small roller bag. Hoping to find one easy on the eyes, aesthetically;)
I started eyeing this bag after seeing your V1 vid long time ago, and finally ordered a V2 after looking at a lot of bags so thanks! Looking at your ‘bike posture’ maybe you’re wearing it a too high?
The day the MPL V2 was announced I pre-ordered it right away. I loved the first one, but I ended up buying the WANDRD PRVKE instead at the time. Great purchase. Chase I mentioned you in their first video of it. They didn't know who you were. I'm sorry. Looks like you got the bags anyways hahahaha.
The bag looks really great but honestly, the inside Molle bands are ridiculous... put pens ? Hook ? What would you think about a 4/5 opening for the CPL28 ?
No they are not, atleast in my use case. I attach my Peli micro case and some pouches, anything with small hook. So I don't feel too much weight pushed to the bottom of the bag. Very useful
@@chasereeves I know I'm home when people use words like tantalizing to describe bags... I like what they did with the front pocket on the 28L, and your issue with the original CPL was exactly my issue. That is how I ended up with a GR. Since I have had both, I have thought about how perfect a CPL with the Goruck's capacity would be. Thanks for all your hard work and positive vibes, man.
@@scootermcgoot If I made enough money and the world wasn't in shambles, I'd make vids like that. But as it is, we gotta make decisions about products, realize they aren't going to solve the hard things about life, and move on... and also, some of you are so compromised there's no hope but to buy them both. I have them both and here's my take: I actually really like the simplicity of a pouch-oriented carry in the GR1 because I spend most of my time with my backpack on the ground, in the car, next to me at café, etc. I don't walk much or take public transit, so my bag is for conveyance of the gear I need to get my work done. And there's something so easy about the GR1 in my crazy ass life on the go right now. But the GR1 has absolutely zero external access, none whatsoever (front pocket is worthless, except for in a pinch). CPL28 has REALLY nice quick access, front pocket (that quick access tho, priceless). So, If I were picking one I'd probably go with CPL28 (even though I prefer the GoRuck straps and handle currently).
(Don't mind the aggressive double comment here ) - Hey Chase! Any plans to review the Evergoods CTB35? Upgrading an Osprey Porter 46L, and agonizingly torn between the CTB35 and the Peak Design Travel 45L! Leaning toward the CTB35 - recently adopted Evergoods CPL24 as my EDC for return to office days, psyched for the similarities in design, but for some reason fixated on the fact that CTB is smaller than my older 46. Though I will say with Evergoods' dedicated volume bent, the CTB35 feels larger than just 35L.
Does having a mesh back panel really make that big of a difference? I really want to buy one of the updated CPLs for daily office/motorcycle/light travel use but I live in the stupid South and its so hot and sweaty.
in my opinion it depends on what you're comparing it to. Me and my sweaty back own three types of bags (in all my bags), either a very clean looking no padding no mesh for light items and the looks. Or a padded backpack, with both mesh or not because I am gonna be sweating a lot anyways and imho it doesn't make a difference. Or a hiking backpack with suspended net (like the Osprey Stratos lineup). With the light backpack I'm not sweating that much more because it's not lying flush on my back, with a suspended net I'm only sweating on my hips more where the hipbelt is. But with all other backpacks, with or withour mesh, I'm definitely gonna be sweating.
Most bags with suspended-trampoline-mesh would not look very professional in my office or meeting a client so they are out. I have read that a lot of traditional air mesh style back panels (like on the Aer Travel Pack) will just compress under most moderate loads eliminating the air channel flow anyway. Also, that the softer foam behind the mesh just absorbs sweat and can stay wet for a while. Maybe air mesh channels are mostly overrated as well and I just need to pack an extra shirt and embrace the suck.
I like my V1, but the dust pickup is really a thing. The outer material picks up so much... dust and dirt! You mention it briefly, but is that improved in V2?
