Honestly I think the Born is the most beautiful EV. I have never associated Spain with reliable engineering, but I love a hot hatch. I own a mapped FIAT that LEAPS off the line and has cost me more in repairs (90% done by me lying on my back under it in 4C february British weather witth eh engine 2cm from my face with oil on my face and grit in my eyes) than it did to buy so tbh I give more of AF about it being beautiful and fun than I do about it being practical and reliable. I'm not into (at all) self driving cars, but i do smile to myself thinking about telling it "To the manor, born..." instead of saying "home" 😁 With all those copper bits, do you think someone in 'styling' misheard the brand name? Thought it was Copper and not Cupra?
Like the more aggressive front and rear and the highlights, being in the US we have a smattering of choices that the rest of the world has but it is nice to see others in the world moving forward while the US is still infactuated with the Texas Instruments pocket calculator!
2 curiosity's about the cupra, first the name, came from Seat's performance cup racing, other one, born if you have been in barcelona, you will know, is one of the main districs here on BCN, it's quite near the center of the city. so there you have it.
FIrst: Thanks for the video! Second: Neither. A friend has the ID.4 and he is very disappointed with it. If its current problems are the same in ID3 and Cupra than it will be a tesla model 3 for me. But from the optics alone I would pick the cupra 10 out of 10 times.
Is it the same software in the Cupra the same as the iD3? ( if yes, it will be pretty crap then?) Dose it give you nearest changing station information?
You realise all vws since e-Golf do an adaptive regenerative breaking when actually pushing the breaks pedal. The breaks will be added when the e motor reaches its limit of creating deceleration which you will not feel. Which i find is the best solution. No need for regen modes.
Idk but on kona the brakes drive me mad. I press the pedal and they do whatever they want. I prefer the brake pedal to be just pure physical brake and have regen breaking controlled solely from the throttle.
@@HanYou2 that supports my admiration for what VW did in my e-Golf: the combination of regen and brakes are completely fluent. I already drove I'd.3 and I'd.4 as well it's the same.
For those who think EVs should be synonym of minimalism this car is an opprobrium, but de gustibus here apply. Strange that a stylish design school as that of Barcelona can give birth to something like this.
its got 'panache' nice looking car much better than id3 especially with glass roof and a good choice of colours inside and out and alloys. The filming on point as always and nice drone shots and background music.
For those who don´t know, the name is after the centric "El Born" neighbourhood in Barcelona. The first concept was a SEAT but the VW guys decided to give it to Cupra instead... And they dropped the "El" in the name for some reason.
I'm waiting for the next gen if ID 3/Cupra Born to see if the fix all the small things that people don't like - like the terrible buttons and the laggy sat nav (with too much detail on it). If they could simplify the inside, bring bake buttons and refine the outside (less future, more timeless) they will make a good car great.
Looking forward to seeing this in Australia as neither ID.3 or 4 are coming. But prefer the name over VW names. Looks like hot hatch even if only performs like a lukewarm hatch. Only thing I'm sure here the badge vandals who remove badges to collect will target this car only needs sentry mode equivalent.
I do like a good rambling review - it’s like a gentle walk down a country lane, where insight and perspective (such as the SatNav tells you to go left or right) are slowly revealed in an almost apologetic manner 🙂 Hopefully Jack’s holiday is a short one 😉
I prefer the look of the ID3. I think the Cupra design is rather contrived. Don't like the badging or the copper tones. I would find the screen lag frustrating. Otherwise it seems a great car.
I think (chime in if you know more) to do one peddle driving well it needs either 4 wheel drive or front wheel drive because when you slow a car with brakes or regen if it’s only slowing the rear wheels they can slip or skid as most the weight ‘falls’ to the front wheels whilst de-accelerating. A bit like when you apply to much back brake on your push bike and the rear wheel locks up. Nissan Leaf 40Kwh manages to pull off 1 pedal driving but it’s front wheel drive. Nice work on the shoot Robert and Andy + fab editing.
vw uses adaptive regen breaking when pushing the breaks - it's a deceleration pedal and the computer decides when to activate the mechanical breaks. No need for regen modes. But also not really one pedal driving. I like it better that way (legacy breaking)
@@arminvogt8690 Ah ok makes sense ... so it is somewhat similar in the sense that my BMW i3 will use some portion of regen if i let go of the accellerator pedal, and will first use more regen if it hit the breakpeadal and then at last will add mechanical breaks id needed. Only difference then is that all regen is on the break pedal with Cupra born or ID3. That's not too bad.
@@Astravall interesting, ok, fair enough, can a i3 slow down almost to a stop then via regen only? Shame then VW haven’t achieved at-least that. I thought I had figured it out. Thanks for info

Looks so much better that the ID3.
I love the blue with copper accents.
I would buy one of these.
amazing design. Especially the front.
Much prefer Roberts car reviews. Good info, based in the real world and some good humour.
The battery is from Nothvolt, Sweden.
I think it looks fantastic, Cupra are at top of their game at the moment.
I love that color. Not that I normally give a damn in a car review- but I love that color
Another brilliant and beautifully produced episode; very enjoyable to watch. I'd take the Born over the ID3 but keen to see the price and spec comparison with EV6. I do like your soundtrack, can I get a track listing?
I do like a sporty bit of flanging! 😆 And between this an the ID3, it'd be the Born for sure.
Nice. I’d go for the Cupra, just!
I'm not into (at all) self driving cars, but i do smile to myself thinking about telling it "To the manor, born..."
instead of saying "home" 😁
With all those copper bits, do you think someone in 'styling' misheard the brand name? Thought it was Copper and not Cupra?

Like the more aggressive front and rear and the highlights, being in the US we have a smattering of choices that the rest of the world has but it is nice to see others in the world moving forward while the US is still infactuated with the Texas Instruments pocket calculator!
Trying to convince my wife into electric from her Audi A3 Cabriolet and thought this might float her boat....its still proving difficult 😭⚡🙈
2 curiosity's about the cupra, first the name, came from Seat's performance cup racing, other one, born if you have been in barcelona, you will know, is one of the main districs here on BCN, it's quite near the center of the city.
so there you have it.
What a BEAUTIFUL car!!
Now, that's styling ! Much better than the Id3
Is it the same software in the Cupra the same as the iD3? ( if yes, it will be pretty crap then?)
Dose it give you nearest changing station information?
Such a great looking EV☺️🥰but not really hot as my estate MG5 is faster to 60mph💪
I'm glad you commented that, as that is an interesting stat! 💪⚡😉

Very enjoyable video, beautiful views, and the music [chef's kiss]
Lovely car and always lovely, high quality video! Best regards from Budapest :)
Oh dear - this made me miss Barcelona a lot... And the car was nice too!
Software becomes more and more important and these old brands just don't have it properly.
I'm glad to have a car where I press one button to operate the driving mode or turne one knob to change ac. thx for the review.
For those who don´t know, the name is after the centric "El Born" neighbourhood in Barcelona. The first concept was a SEAT but the VW guys decided to give it to Cupra instead... And they dropped the "El" in the name for some reason.
I love the blue and cooper look.
I love the 3 “this is” introduction. Please stick to three
I'm waiting for the next gen if ID 3/Cupra Born to see if the fix all the small things that people don't like - like the terrible buttons and the laggy sat nav (with too much detail on it).
I do like a good rambling review - it’s like a gentle walk down a country lane, where insight and perspective (such as the SatNav tells you to go left or right) are slowly revealed in an almost apologetic manner 🙂
Hopefully Jack’s holiday is a short one 😉
I prefer the look of the ID3. I think the Cupra design is rather contrived. Don't like the badging or the copper tones. I would find the screen lag frustrating. Otherwise it seems a great car.
So it does not have one pedal driving? I really love the seamless adjustment of regen with my BMW i3.
@@simonyapp Well my BMW i3 is rear wheel drive, so .. i doubt that could be the reason.
vw uses adaptive regen breaking when pushing the breaks - it's a deceleration pedal and the computer decides when to activate the mechanical breaks.
Unfortunately neither as In Australia you can’t get them yet. But if it was available the Cupra looks so much better. Exterior design Interior design looks so much better. Battery composite very similar under MEB platform.
