im not going to lie, i feel like my ability to speak into a microphone was still partially coming back to me while recording this, but I don't think its too bad. Next weeks video I feel that I am more well-spoken. Glad to be back though, feels like a weight off of my chest :')
first time viewer here, although I mightve watched a video or two before (Penguin feels familiar), if you wouldnt have said anything at the end of the video I never wouldve guessed youve had a break or whatever. You are wellspoken, felt natural and like you've been doing videos like this for years. I enjoyed it, took me awhile before remembering that I've played Piranesi as a kid.
I think of it as "the one with the art pieces". That sundial is really engraved into my mind. Back when I used to play both maps, I was so bad at CS, I had no idea one was significantly more balanced than the other.
@@grimmerjxcts2206 chateau was one of my favorites but I think the T spawn there is very distinguishable (It's just a bunch of GREEN). Also the very close proximity to a bombsite too, similar to today's Vertigo.
i remember playing oilrig for the pool and literally only for that, it was fun as a child since there weren't many maps where you could swim (the cs 1.6 no-steam builds i played on didn't have poolday)
I first saw Piranesi when I was about 10 years old in CSS. The water at the T spawn made my jaw drop, it looked so realistic compared to anything else I've seen in videogames before.
Yup, I spent many hours on CS:S community servers playing 16v16 [noclip] on de_piranesi. I always remember on the T side about half the team always attempted the window jump with about half of those players making it.
De_Chateau are bit much T sided map since that one of the bombsite are so close with T_Spawn, De_Piranesi, De_Prodigy (map design edits needed) and De_Tides are better and should be added on CS:GO and CS2, if they wan't to, add some other underrated gameplay hostage map tho such as Cs_Havana and Cs_Siege (Cs_siege creator passed away around 2000's). As a form of nostalgic recollections, as for Siege map, a memorials and form of respects of deceased creator.
I miss a lot of 1.6, CZ and Source maps. Piranesi was the one i played the most, since it was just fun to play. I really would like to see maps like Piranesi, Tides, Chateau, Aitstrip, Prodigy in CS2.
Great video! Glad to see you back. I wish that more casual maps like this would be added. As much as I love competitive and their maps, it is always fun to play on casual maps (like canals, tuscan, etc.) on the casual game mode.
@@rand_kk I mean it had an earlier version in the game early in, and now it has the newer version. What is different about the map that you would want to see?
Probably if they try balance this map it would end happening the same on Aztec Remake, it changed so much that they just renamed. I never gonna understand why they created a new name.. naming that map "Aztec II" it would be a better option for players to play since day 1, the nostalgia can drive people opinions lol
this makes me miss 1.5/6 community servers, how much fun it was to find a server where you fit in and had endless fun, my favorite was one called Da Moon with Aqua Teen Hunger Force sounds, was amazing
I spent the video thinking "huh, this really reminds me of Canals", and felt so vindicated at the end of the video! Good to see you back too, amazing stuff as always!
Same with CS:S. It was pretty common on the 32 player community servers. I can't remember the name of the one I used to play on, but it also had de_playground and had a really good map pool from which to pick it.
still to this day ill never understand as to why valve won't add all of these extraordinary maps to their modern CS [csgo] growing up playing source, the best part about the entire game was option... you had endless amounts of games & maps to choose from and it left that unknown feeling untouched which i think brings excitement and pleasure. there are so so many maps i could mention like de_russka, de_cpl_mill, de_season etc etc.. but the point is a lot of the old cal & cevo maps and many more should already be a thing in csgo and i wish valve knew how much of an importance it is for not only new players but the long time veterans.
you gave me a great nostalgia boost. I always mention piranesi when i do my "I'm an old cs gamer talk". young folk who grew up with CSGO only don't even know this map
Great video dude! You're on your way to being a new generation 3kliks with videos like this. Always a banger. Editing on point and the pacing is great!
I made the same comparision yesterday on twitter, him and goldec are new generation's 3kliks, their content is not exactly the same but they have their own niche content with such great delivery
I remember that Piranesi was always a hard map for me to play on, even as a casual player, which is probably because my favorite weapon to use was the shotgun. It was a map that you saw played a lot, though, and I was always one to try and vote for maps that aren't the usual favorites like Dust II, Inferno or Office. Been so long since I played, though, that I hardly remember any of the names. One that I always found fun, even if way too big and unbalanced, were the Rats maps.
btw, it's "iikka" (eek-caw), not "likka".. weird finnish name, or a typo that was supposed to be "ilkka", which is a very common male name in Finland.. anyways, "likka" means chick (slang for young girl) in finnish. I bet the surname is Keränen (pronounced keraenen), but they always drop the dots in english for some reason..
Canals is one of my favorite maps. Not for its layout, but for its setting. Venice is such an interesting and beautiful city. I've spent a little longer than a week there, many years prior to this map being unveiled, and I really felt like I was at the Piazza San Marco, staring at the Doge's Palace again when I finally played it.
Honestly I love everything about Canals apart from the big, wideopen A site. Mid and B are great fun, if they remade that last third of the map I think it would be far more fun to play. It's a huge shame Valve gave up on it, Canals was way more fun than Ancient, which is just corridors and boxes, and feels to me like a Valorant map.
man why u always gotta make so many good videos on old maps, ofc i had like 2 or 3 that i missed but after binge watching your map videos i now know so many maps i miss insanely much and i will be crying myself t osleep about these maps being dopped in csgo for the forseable future
The floor texture in the street outside looked so familiar to me, that's why… Ikka has made a popular Quake texture pack with that precise cobblestone texture in there :)
Bring back Piranesi for CS2! In fact bring back all the classic OG maps for CS2. I don't care if they're not viable for competitive play....just have 1-2 servers running with the classic maps. I guarantee you they'll always be full!
Halo 2's Lockout is the only vertical map I can think of that was truly successful. In every other FPS game I've played, vertical maps just feel weird. I think the secret to Lockout's success is it's wide open design. To this day, it's my favorite FPS map of all time.

CS was never better than when people could nominate any official map for the vote and everyone gets to decide what they want to play next out of the entire pool. I think the days of total Dust and Dust2 domination are over and we don't need to create separate map pools just to give other maps a chance on casual. And don't tell me to go find this experience on a community server because they're either a ghost town or hack-a-thon thanks to the emphasis on official map pools.

Piranesi and Cobblestone are often mixed in my mind. I always remember Piranesi as "the one with the boat".
And the giraffe, of course.
I never knew the difference between chateaux and Piranesi until i became an adult lol

I wish they would bring back as_oilrig and de_survivor. Imagine how amazing the latter would look in CS2
De_Survivor is one of my favourite maps in 1.6
I think they made a map de_blackgold as for de_survivor. That would be cool especially the walkway trap
they might add oilrig as a operation map?????

I loved playing the larger and weird maps like Piranesi and Chateau versus my friends back in the days. Great work.
Piranesi and Prodigy were some of my favourite community server maps back in the Source days. Can't wait to play on them again if the leaks are true.
I would be so happy if de_chateau was modernized and added into CS2's map pool alongside these. The vibes of these maps are unreal
apparently chateaus lore is connected to de_storms, which is honestly the most underrated map in all of cs
