Jonathan Brandis is a loser, obsessed with Chuck Norris. No longer prepared to be bullied, he seeks training from Mako and enters a karate tournament to prove himself in this bad 90s martial arts movie.
Also stars Beau Bridges, Julia Nickson and Danica McKellar.

I was 12 when this came out and I hated it. when I saw that the writer for this was Chuck Norris himself, I forever realized he's a full blown narcissistic prick. it's just a self indulging movie.
The rest of the cast is great though. this film had potential if you replaced chuck norris for a likeable actor, and removed all the ridiculous fantasies and obsession over the actor.
it would have helped if the protagonist kid actually knew some martial arts too.

The actor playing Barry was in the 1990 "IT" mini series and sadly passed away at 27 years old.
That’s right. He was also the replacement for Bastian in The Neverending Story Part 2.

What a shame about the ending. After 2hrs and 50 minutes of pure terror ( I was a kid) it ends with a group of 40 year old punching a giant spider. 🤦🏻♂️

A lot of people have said that. I only saw it this week for the first time. Somehow it passed me by. I never liked Jonathan Brandis. Obviously it’s not nice to speak ill of the dead but lying is worse. 😂

I remember renting this all the time as a kid. I loved it back then, but watching your review, it looks like it didn't age well. Hilarious stuff. Really great editing, timing with the jokes and over all presentation. Keep up the great work.

I do enjoy that 1 main antagonist is very over the top by design.
A main antagonist with a mullet that is unable to defeat Chuck Norris despite giving his best effort.
Yeah, Mr Stone’s overacting is definitely a highlight.

I saw this in theatres at 12 years old. Loved the movie. Sure it corny now at around 40 years old but your criticism brings you and the movie views. Cheers! Have your children watch it with you it’s a clean good movie that you can enjoy with your children. No political messages just entertainment.
I’d have been 14 and back in the UK when this movie came out. Thats probably why my friends and I hadn’t heard of it until last week.
I don’t have kids but I can imagine, over the past few years, it’s pretty tough to just find a normal movie that doesn’t attempt to shove the writers’ ill informed opinions down their throats.

I really don’t agree Jay that Sidekicks is a rip off of the successful drama movie The Karate Kid.
Sidekicks has multiple differences including it’s not unrealistic that Barry wins this Martial Arts Tournament competition with Chuck Norris because Chuck Norris won the sparing match, Barry able to effectively use 2 nunchucks in performance after months of training, and he broke bricks.
Also, Barry has a realistic health flaw he has to deal with, and Lauren has no Romaric interest in Barry until after he beats up a bully in a High School gym.
The amount of differences is high outnumbering similarities so saying Sidekicks is a rip off of The Karate Kid is inane because of the factual flaw the differences outnumbering the unmistakable similarities.
Yeah, it’s not a rip off necessarily. Certain aspects just reminded me of it…

The Karate Kid (1984) is a classic. It probably inspired a lot of other movies much better than this one.

@@JayHarangue Bruce Lee fights Chuck Norris in Way of the Dragon, that's a good one. Norris also had a TV series called Walker: Texas Ranger on CBS. Later on, Conan O'Brien did a recurring bit on his show where he'd play funny clips from the show. In the final one that he did, he showed a clip where a boy tells someone, "Walker told me I have AIDS." I have no idea why Walker (who is not a doctor) would be telling a kid he has AIDS.

I Recommend the ring virus. The Ring Virus is the South Korean adaptation of ring the original movie from the ring franchise. (About: Followed by the death of her friends, journalist Hong Sun-Joo comes across a videotape containing incomprehensible images. Towards the end of the tape, she finds the curse which states that the viewer would die at the same time next week if he/she does not perform certain tasks. Sun-Joo and a doctor named Choi-Yul embark on a journey to break the curse placed upon them.) Joe Piscopo as the karate guy is mind blowing. Like how do you go from saving Saturday Night Live with Eddie Murphy to this? No love for Reagan loving, mullet headed, body builder comedians in Hollywood. There's at least 3 strikes to all that.
Also, Mako from Conan the Barbarian and The Killer Elite with Robert Duvall and James Caan was probably also having a Joe Piscipo level what the hell happened moment.
I give Chuck a pass on these movies cause Lone Wolf McQuade and Invasion USA are utter classics
I’m not a Chuck Norris fan AT ALL! But then again, I don’t like action movies.
@@JayHarangue try the 2 I just mentioned. They are amazing self parody. I laugh uncontrollably through them regularly. Plus, David Carridine will be all choked up if you don't like Lone Wolf McQuade, which has beer be a major plot point at least 5 times.

There was a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode where Data tries to understand comedy, so he goes into the holodeck to talk to a guy that is supposed to be the greatest comedian ever: Joe Piscopo doing a Jerry Lewis impression.
