Hey! Are you tired of that nagging feeling that Revit is slowing you down, or you aren't working as fast as you think you should? Then, consider enrolling in my *Foundations of Revit* course, where I share my time-saving tips, tricks, and best practices! Thank you for the video. Yes, you can do that. But you always have to keep both files Escel and DWG. There is also an add in calld TableGen by DiRoots. It allows to import Excel directly as Drafting, Legend or List.
I think i love you !!!, I'm making my university thesis about FM in revit (preventive maintenance for mechanical equipment) and i have to do a checklist included in the model, thanks a lot for the video !!! Greetings from Chile
Hi there, thank you for making this video! Super handy and SO MUCH time saved when the other option was manual input of hundreds of cells. One issue I am having is that if I import an excel spreadsheet where there are hard returns ie. Alt+Enters it seems as though revit cannot handle this. It is as if it can handle wrapping ok-ish, but cannot handle skipping to a line below. I would imagine it is a similar issue to where multiline text blocks were also not always the most easily converted but I know revit is able in general to deal with this so I'm hoping there is a way! All the best and thanks again!
So glad this method works for you! Revit still doesn't allow direct linking from Excel to Revit. If you have the full version of Revit (not Revit LT) I'm sure there's a plugin/add-on out there to help you do this without needing AutoCAD but always be very careful when downloading add-ons, plugins, and extensions to make sure you're not downloading harmful files on your computer.
Hi Lawrence, unfortunately, excel spreadsheets cannot be directly loaded into Revit so this is the workaround I use to get around it. If anything changes with this I will post an update. Thanks for your question!
I tried to copy paste tables in CAD instead of data-link method, but unfortunately it does not work. I get this message when LINK-ing the DWG to Revit : " Some elements were list during import. ActiveX and some proprietary components cannot be imported" . Is linking data linking Excel to CAD the only way? Thank you
Hey sorry to hear you're having issues with this method. Did you try the data link to see how the table came out? Sometimes those error messages will appear but the end result looks fine. If still having issues, there are some 3rd party tools that you may be able to use. I've never tried these other tools so I don't have anything I can confidently recommend. Please let me know how your problem resolves so I (and others) can learn from you! Good luck
tip : If using AutoCAD LT, use commands "datalink" and "table" and to update link, in CAD right click on the table and click "update table data links" If resulting table in Revit looks all clumped up, modify width of cells in CAD, save, reload in Revit.
Hey Chris, make sure you Save the excel document then go back into AutoCAD, select the table, and choose Download from Source. If you tried that and it didn't work, try deleting the table and create a new table using the same data link and that should fix your problem. Hope that works for you!
In some ways, it's amazing what Revit CAN do. In other ways, it's amazing what Revit CAN'T do. Thankfully there are usually workarounds to make up for what Revit lacks

This is a free solution for those with Revit LT who cannot use plug-ins, but it is a good suggestion for those who can use plug-ins!

Great video, I use this method now. Is it possible to link directly in Revit 2021?

I’m so glad you found this and it helped you!
Cheers. Perfectly solved my problem.
Thank you so much for this...
Can you add the excel spreadsheet directly into Revit? I have 2020 Revit.

@@TheStudentArchitect OK. I have mimic'd your technique, although length, it works fine. Thanks for the video.
AMAZING! thank you so much.

Great tips, thanks for watching!
does anyone know how to make the column and row numbers visible? in cad i inly see them when i click on the table, but cant see them in Revit
Hey! You might need to make another column with numbers for them to show in Revit. Hope this helps!
Hey so everything worked well except when I made a change to excel, autocad wouldn't update, thank you
