For the SUBS, Inks are good cards. A couple are decent earners. The trifecta sucks if you are looking for major categories being covered.

I don’t understand complaining about 5/24. Just garden for damn year. My last application was October of 2023 and won’t be applying this year. 2 credits application per year preferably spread over six months and you won’t have a problem.

@@JonsCreditAndTravelone of my regrets starting in the early credit journey was that I was reckless applying & had no idea about 5/24 and how valuable, flexible and great sign bonuses Chase pts had. I’ve obtained over 21 cards since then but closed 10. Now, I about getting quality over quantity and cards that meet my lifestyle and spend. Awesome content by the way!!

Very valid concerns and I think I’ve echoed some of the concerns you shared. I think Chase won’t offer grocery and gas station purchases as a permanent reward category as long as they continue to use it as a marketing tool to attract new cardholders. They should really be feeling the pressure now though.

The only cards that chase offers that are good are the ritz, CSR, the Marriott boundless, Hyatt, and ihg. Solely for the free nights for a 95 AF. You can redeem those nights for. $200 and get status bumps. The reserve is good for the the flex credit and lounge if you’re near one but after that it’s kind of bad compared to the Amex plat, and the ritz is chase’s best card. Without the ritz, chase is shit.

Freedom Unlimited can’t be 3X at least not long term. They’d lose money or need to institute an annual fee. 1.5X is a joke and they should meet the market at 2X. Wells also for some reason won’t do grocery bonus too. Wells has a decent lineup with no AF but the partners need to be upgraded. 5/24 can be a drag but I thinks it’s good in that it forces you to track your velocity and gameplan.

Jon dropping the hot take! Great video brother!
I like some parts of Chase cards, but totally get your point of view man. I can't remember the last time I spent consistently on the Freedom Unlimited...I actually have three other catch all cards now LOL (BBP, VX, USBAR). I don't spend much on the CSP either. Freedom Flex has seen a good chunk of dining spend this quarter - and this quarter is great - but is otherwise dormant for 1/2 to 3/4 the year.
It seems like all the personal Chase cards I actually want are out of reach (5/24) for now! United, IHG, for the perks; but wouldn't spend on them much after the SUB.

Hey Jon good video! I think you nailed the frustration that a lot of us in the hobby have with Chase and there anemic bonus categories. And not having a card with a permanent gas and grocery category is just sad😢 I agree with your opinion that the autograph card by Wells Fargo is a good card however you have the same problem with no grocery category. I personally like the Chase ecosystem and will continue to use their cards for a variety of reasons however, because of Chase’s shortsightedness, it’s caused me to have to embrace other ecosystems as well as part of my daily spend. The card that I found to cover all of the gaps and that actually is also a pretty decent ecosystem is the city strata premier it’s got three times gas and groceries as well as restaurants and travel it’s a pretty solid card, all the way around because of that I think it is still better than Wells Fargo as an option if your goal is to completely optimize your return on spend. I was a little surprised that you did not mention the premier card. Anyway great video hope you have an awesome evening

I am an Amex fanboy obviously as you well know and although Im not a fan of Citi, the Premier is a great, even keeled card.
Great reply Sean. Thank you. I look forward to more from you in the future. Have a greaty day!!!!

Can you elaborate why you feel the Wells cc lineup is the way to go now? I have the CFU and was going to get the Flex next but after watching your video I am intrigued. I am skittish and skeptical to start a partnership with WF with their questionable history as a bank. I know that was then and this is now but you don't really go into detail in this video as to why you feel the WF cc's are the way to go now instead of Chase can you do a video and answer this or answer it here? I would b most appreciative. While I wait for your response I am going to go look at the WF Active Cash and Journey. Autograph Journey is not in the realm of possibility for me just yet. I know I threw a lot at you here so answer what you can when you can. Thanks! Love your content and thanks for answering all my emails about BILT, yes I am that guy LOL!

Hello. Good day to you. Hope you are doing well. Thank you for watching. I appreciate your time and support.
I understand the apprehension with doing business with Wells Fargo. But if everyone would do a bit of digging, no one would do business with Chase, BoA, etc either with things they have done in the recent past.
I think the personal line of cards with Wells are better earners overall than Chase. The one thing Wells cards are missing unfortunately (still) is a grocery category on a card. The regular Autograph card alone is 3X on dining, gas, transit, streaming, phone, and travel. The Journey is the card geared toward travel more with 5X hotels, 4X airlines, 3X on other travel categories and dining with a $50 credit on airline purchase. The Active Cash is their 2% catch all. I will stick with those cards and not include the newly reelased Attune card. In my estimation, that makes the Wells lineup a more effective earning platform (if they would just get their act together with groceries). There can be debate on transfer partners, etc. But I was speaking purely from a nearning point of view.
Hope that answers most if not all of your questions.
Thank you again very much for watching and your support. It means a lot.

Yeah I get it...5/24 has everyone scared to death....except for me (9/24 and dont care). But I really do get it. Decent cards to start with but long term for spend optimization, sock drawer them. They are garbage until Chase changes...and that wont happen because of 5/24. I do think its cool you get value from the FF. I was using it for 7X dining until I started getting 14X dining with my Amex Gold card. The FF went back in the sock drawer. I fear we are stuck with what we have from Chase. And thats why I dont value my relationship with them.

Hello, i think you are giving good info, but need a better background to add interest. Maybe a plant or something on the desk corner on your right side of the video, also something on your back right shoulder and film with the door shut. Repeating the same issues like gas a few times so you might need a scrip or try editing. I have been watching a bunch of these videos as I have decided to branch out on my point game. Hell yeah Jon! I think over time and getting deeper in this game, you try to find what’s truly worth while with your spend, which hotels and airlines you care for and people just make a decision on which cards make the most sense.
For you it’s Amex and maybe Wells, for me it’s a million Ink cards and eventually everyone’s paths align I think.

Pretty much what I said. There's a lot of people have this thing where everything has a fit what they want but there's so many cards out there and people ignore the transfer partners. The ink cards now will we. Like to have more of course but as I was saying in one of my posts was like I want the Platinum. I agree with SOME of your comments. First off, the 1.5% card is an absolute joke, with the Robinhoods of the world out there. Secondly, I loooove my freedom flex. 7% on restaurants this quarter? 5% on Amazon this quarter, which I can redeem for 1.5X? How about the Amazon prime card, which pays 5% cash back year round (but cannot be redeemed for points 😢). And I believe the freedom flex paid 5% for groceries last quarter (didn’t own the card then, damn). I think a combo of the discover it card and the freedom flex card with their rotating categories should cover you about half the year for gas and groceries. I agree with you about the 5/24 rule, it is very gestapo-like. Anyway, those are my thoughts. I still haven’t pulled the trigger on the bilt card, but when I do, I’ll use your link. Cheers from the other John R with an h!

What's up Jon! Invading your crib. I'm not sure I agree with Chase cards sucking. I've had some great luck with those cards. It would be great if they would have a permanent grocery category. i totally understand that the chase personal cards don't have great earnings multipliers. i don't really recommend the CFU lol. it's why churning the inks is so important, because sign up bonuses are way more valuable than good multitpliers. all in all i enjoy getting some UR points

Agree with you Jon! In terms of all the overlap and the small range of categories compared to other issuer cards. The quarterly FF categories are a little annoying as I cant always maximize on every quarter. I am on the ink train though so cant complain there haha. I do think Chase does give good flexibility w points and a great ecosystem just want to see them make some card improvements.

      @JonsCreditAndTravel  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hey Darius. Good day to you. Hope you have been well. Thank you for watching.
Yeah I understand that the Ink train can be powerful. I feel that most people wont go down that path though and will get just the CFU and/or the CFF and the CSP or CSR and that's it. That's why I focused on those cards in particular.
You are right though.....the Ink subs can definitely be a lot of points and a card or 2 have decent multipliers for sure. I guess the flexibility is good. Im not a fan of Southwest of Hyatt though so UR points dont mean much to me currently. But for those that are full on Chase and can get on the Ink train, thats the only power the Chase ecosystem has in my opinion.

Dont get me wrong....I earned about 150K UR points through SUBs, beyond that, they dont earn very well and are definitely not good for spend optimizers. Now for someone that wants one card and doesnt care, yeah I can see someone having the CFU and thats it.
I think WF is on to something and can be a powerhouse if they fully execute. But no, my #1 is Amex.
And dont worry....Im taking Amex to task as well. Just because im their fanboy doeent mean Im not going to roast them too.

Interesting perspective Jon regarding Chase. While I agree that Chase needs to refresh their cards, particularly the CSR and need to add a permanent 3x multiplier on groceries, I would not say Chase sucks. I would argue that it’s probably the easiest ecosystem to transfer points to partners, particularly Hyatt. Nevertheless nice contrarian video 👍

Juan is in the building!! Thank you for the support good sir. I appreciate it.
I understand where you are coming from and it makes sense. Can you elaborate on Chase being the easiest ecosystem to transfer points in? Asking because I really didnt see a difference in level of difficulty when I transferred all of my Chase points out recently to the experience I have had transferring Amex points out to a partner. Would like to know more. I get that Hyatt is the latest hotness with Chase and that's why its so popular. I myself have never stayed at a Hyatt and have no plans to. No value there for me. But I totally get why so many others like yourself get that value. I appreciate you sharing man. Thank you very much for the support good sir!!
