He's a hero cause he has endured what he has been dealt and not looking for pity or empathy. He answered a call to duty that few understand unless you've been there.

Thank you, sir, for being willing to do what most are not for a group of people who DO NOT understand that you were willing to give your life so that they could say the horrible things they say and enjoy the freedoms that they have. Thank you, Cpl. Mankin, from the bottom of my heart. I, for one, appreciate your service.

im sad because so many young people were used for corporate greed and resources, not for freedom or terrorism we as americans were lied to once again, but i do admire this man because he fought for something of what he thought, and that he can continue his life and to get married

...MARINE...I salute you for your service to OUR country, My father would be so proud of you if he were still here as he was one of the last Marines to get out way back when at the "Frozen Chosin". I had no idea what he had done...nor the fellow troops he had saved until his funeral last year. There were three older men that made a point to find me and show me some old black and white pictures of three marines standing in the snow...

I was there that day. The vehicle he was in blew up about 40 feet from me and my entire platoon. At the 1:00 minute mark you can see my old Sgt. Don Almond (he has no vest on) he used his vest to put the flames that had engulfed Aaron out. He saved his life. For those of you who were not there that day, you have no idea what any of us went through. If you have never served in the armed forces keep your opinion to yourself.

We cannot understand God, and why he allows such things to happen to people who seem undeserving, for His ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts. So how can we, as finite beings, understand infinite wisdom? Just because someone believes on God does not mean that life will become easy and comfortable . God may not smooth the path, but sometimes, he puts springs in the wagon.

I also feel mixed about that vid. It portrays him as hero and with grce, but which grace lies in such an injury? is he really a hero or a victim of national abuse. I think idolizing vets as heros just serves to surpress own guilt.

@sawali1994 We all have our opinions, but before you start stating accusations about things you don't understand, things you just think you know about because you hear them from other people, understand this: Soldiers don't chose where/who they fight. America is the greatest country on Mother Earth, and if you want to say anything that goes against that, make sure you have your facts straight, son.

@Sicherheitsmasnahmen people are worried about Jobs Paying rent and keeping food on the table
    .
Conquering Fallujah for a few hours by killing locals in there own town's and than returning back to U.S bases does not help anyone in U.S or in any Part of the world apart from the special interests groups
    .
U.S has 20. million upset Americans Muslims which are tired of 10 years of catastrophic wars
Blowing up people's homelands only create more tensions at home

@anthcybo ok so all those who overcame that situation are heroes then, including him, i bet you that if you lost one eye or your nose you would probably commit suicide, so yeah, overcoming that shit alone, its something notable, and doing it for your country even more, i am against the war but these guys are heroes

well, playing real life "war games" isn't like playing those video games. people get hurt - on both sides of the fence. and you can be 100% certain that the US military have hurt a lot more people. though luck i guess.

@SemperFidelis0229 look , iam from Jordan , hundreds of thousands of iraqis came to jordan during the war , they told me terrible things the americans has done to them , a guy told me he watched his sister being raped in front of his eyes , so please stop calling the others as terrorists and check what you have done to the others , in fact many of your soldiers were ashamed of what they have done in Iraq and afghanistan , they said that they were killing inocent people

This is why I can't bring myself to believe in god. He's supposed to look out for brave men and women like Corporal Mankin, right? So what gives? And can anyone tell me WHY IN THE WORLD we are fighting in the first place? In my opinion, humanity, as a whole, is mediocre at best.

@inceptionsd NO ONE FORCED ME. I joined the united states marine corps freely and willingly to serve my country and make something of my life. I chose to fight for your fucking freedoms and you all have the nerve to say Aaron is not a hero. You all make me sick. None of you have any idea how fucked up war is. Until you serve in iraq or Afghanistan I personally believe you should not be allowed to form an opinion about the war. But I did aware to uphold and defend the constitution.
