I would have probably swamped if I got sideways but who tries to turn in waves that are 5' tall?
I follow lots of fishing and outdoor creators and can say for sure you are the same as you were when I found your channel years ago. Some guys changed and to be honest it isn’t for the best in my opinion. Thank you so much for providing a few minutes of peace and enjoyment for me. I hope you continue to grow and I will keep your family in my prayers.
Great video. Blue Catfish can be tricky but shallow water with structure next to deep water and casting into both is usually good. Helps to have good fresh bait like shad.
First comment ever... the most fun I've ever had was in a jon boat. I actually inherited a 1985 17 ft duracraft w a 90 hp yammy on it. I've gotten it completely reworked and my brother and I use it for everything. If you're ever interested in frogging in lake Houston when the weather gets right, let me know! I love watching your videos. Due to poor health I can’t go fishing anymore. But with a little good luck and the grace of God maybe that will change. I now do my fishing through watching your channel. Maybe one day we could fish together. I know about your health struggles and I pray for you often. Hang in there my friend. I live in south Louisiana where fishing is a way of life. Keep the videos coming. PLEASE !!!!!
I use those same type jug lines, But I let mine drift. I set them at different depths, as they drift back into coves and stuff, when the weight hits bottom they stop drifting. I’ll use either whole shad, or Chicken gizzards coated with garlic salt. I didn’t think that would work but it works really good for the bigger blues. I’ve caught 3, 15 pounders just this fall on chicken gizzards with garlic salt. I chase the noodles in my kayak. I fish them like rods. I don’t bait them and leave them, Usually they get bit quick if you use the right bait and let them drift. I have a couple videos on here of me using them. I don’t always carry my GoPro so I miss some nice hook ups, but my filming is just for fun, so I don’t always worry about it. You were asking about big blues, big bait gets big fish. If you put little chunks on there you’re going to get channels. Bluegill or gizzad Shad Heads work best.
A shallow wind blown flat is where your gonna find the blues, they school up nice this time of year. Also spend 30 to 45 minutes is a spot then move if it’s not producing fish. We dig your vids here in Oklahoma keep it LFG
Zinc wheel weights from cars make good weights too. I save the lead wheel weights for casting bullets! Big blues I use a 6-8 inch live bait hooked thru the mouth on a decent sized hook(4/0) that is tied to the end of the line with a split shot about 3 feet up and 2-4 ounces(depends on current) of lead rigged slip sinker style(I use a snap on bell sinker with the plastic snap) above the split shot that acts as a stop to keep the bait from floating to high up. Chuck it out and wait. We usually fish this at night and listen to the radio. This is river bank fishing style but you could adapt it to jug fishing. Key is LIVE bait, it has to be moving. Blues are predators and mainly eat live bait.
We've done pretty well with all beef hot dogs. Letting them drift in the spring in 65 degree water gets us a lot. First thing in the morning is the best time. On good days, we can have 150lbs of fish and be off the lake by lunch.
Hey Justin you mentioned wanting comments on catfishing, so here it goes if you lip hook live bait or dorsal fin hook live bait on your lines you'll catch flat head instead of the bottom feeders blue's. Flat heads are brendel pattern and way better to eat because they only eat live stuff.
Hey buddy if you catch some big shad and fish big chunks where big blue cats live, you're bound to catch em. Using appropriate gear will definitely help as well. As for finding em just look for bait they will follow shad schools. Obvious locations usually produce, sandbars and ledges are great, as are humps and points. Usually wind has a factor as well and keep your baits fresh! Tight lines and good dangles
Where I’m from in Georgia we’ve always set cat lines on tree limbs hanging over the water and just hook a whole brim about the size of your hand. I’ve caught some monsters doing it
I put the hammer on them white bass every year.. 💜 catfish are fun as hell to catch! Just send a huge hunk of worm out into the depths .. or leave out shrimp for like 4 days🦐
I love the video. The best method for blue cats I use is very simple. I set a whole of half bluegill on a large circle hook. Then I have an 18 inch Fluor leader from the main line with a 1 to 2 oz weight. I set the baits in about 15 to 25 feet of water. I hope this is a helpful tip.
We use the 2-liter bottle style rigs, equipped with bottom rig set up. We take the paper off and stick a bunch of glow sticks in the bottle, works great a night. A 2 oz weight will set the bottle just barely on its side. So if anything hits it, it will stand straight up. We mainly do it at night, but we have a blast doing it. I'll post a video showing what we do sometime when it warms up just a tad. The shad fishing is about to take off in my area. Then the rock fish, so after that I'll start putting a hurting on the cat fish. Yee!! Yee!!
We need some more Rackley & Rob adventures! As for catfishin I use 6-12ft cane/cut poles. Use brown bamboo or hang green bamboo for at least a week. Use a knife instead of a machete to limb the bamboo. My main bait for catfish is Shrimp (not bait shrimp but stuff yud eat) or Sour gummy worms yes I'm serious. Best of luck!
If you throw the jug back in the water it helps with the mess and hooks out of the boat. I use 2 liter pop bottles stuffed with styrofoam because you can tell if there’s a fish on. They don’t stay up.
Glad to hear your good news on the brain tumor. I have a nephew in Houston dealing with a stage-4 tumor on his brain stem and I can only continue to hope and pray that he has an optimistic outcome more like your progress appears. If you're looking to keep critters out of your house, Critter Control is the best outfit I've found, and they discovered more access points than I could ever imagined.
Here in Kentucky, when I fish for blues, fish 20 to 30 feet of water. The fish will suspend about 1/2 way. Around 10 to 12 feet. I always fish out in open water. They do school where I fish. Taylorsville lake. Good luck!!!

If you can get in some Timber with a safe creek channel through it with some depth get a trot line that goes across the creek channel. Attach both ends to to a stump on each side of the creek channel and try to get the trot line to get down deep. I have caught many 50+ pounders with this technique on lake ray Hubbard oh and use live blue gill and let it sit over night and check it the next morning

Well a trick for me that usually works for me is use pretty much the same set up that you have. Then get predominantly larger shad and cut the head off a little bit behind the black dot and only use the heads not any of the other parts and try to hide the hook as much as possible. And another trick is if your jug is close to the bank and you usually fish that area then take a some dog food and throw a couple of scoops in the water around where your jug is and putting dog food out at your dock at a pond or lake. Take some 2-3 inch wide piece of PBC pipe and drill 1/2 inch holes going down to the bottom of it and closing the bottom off of the pipe.
G'day LFG here in Australia most of us use well we call them tinnys try holding on to rod when a 40 to 60lb Murray cod hits it's not easy go. Straight to middle of the river and hang on we have so many snags and old trees. IN THE WATER we are all ways hitting longs SO A BIG COD HITS LIKE THAT some times the boat will stop dead.
Just as a bit of Texas fishing info, for my Texas fishing Hero...my largest catfish is, in fact, a channel catfish...at 18 pounds. They do get large. I would put my average, and great for eating size, at about 4-6 pounds.

I live on the Missouri River and I personally have found the best way to catch big blues cats is to try and find some carp and that is hands down the best bait for blue cat or even flathead you can use the carp live or even better as cut bait.
I fish Lake Houston a lot and to catch the big blues I use the same set up you are using but I only have my leader about 4' deep. I try to drift them in about 10' of water. Sometimes it is a pain chasing them all down but I have never come home without half an ice chest full of them. Good luck!!
If you really want to go in on catching big blues, you're gonna want to up your bait size! 8/0 circle hooks and big cut up chunks of 8-10 inch shad. Also, I never use the tails of the bait just because I've never felt like I've caught much with them. With it being winter time, fish creek channels/mouths and main lake points with.
We need a new Jon boat jingle every trip dude! You need to try chicken strips cut to about 3" soaked in Strawberry Koolaid over night. Its legit, its dope for whiskers. I've see the result, be that guy....guy. LOL
I’ve caught 20 plus pound blue cats and also flatheads on jugs, we always use a whole blue gill or a half of a skip jack with no weight just let them naturally sink in the water with about 10-12 feet of string on it, this works in Alabama maybe it will work for you in Texas!
Catching big cats is easy. You can get shwasted while doing so. I always use a good strong treble, some good braid with heavy weight and chicken liver. Get you a bunch of pole holders and as many poles you can legally have then just rig them all, cast and wait. Catfish bells on top of the pole make it easier for catfishing at night. Night fishing is usually the best time for kitty fish.
Love the boat, I have a 14 foot vhull with a 15 mercury on the back. And I have a 19 footer with a 150 mercury. I love boats. Post more videos like this one.
Love the boat! Would love to catfish with you one day. Got a good little lake here in Abilene with lots of big ones would be perfect for that little boat. Caught a lot of 20 plus pounders in.
Fishing the local river in Minnesota we use 6-8 inch creek chubs(interesting casting a 1 pound bait and 4 oz's of lead weights to hold it down) hooked through the snout. My best blue catfish so far is a 50 pounder.
Mary Brown yeah here in Texas I always do 2 hook lines top one gets a shiner hooked dead and the bottom hook a live perch hooked right under the top spines. Like you we find that the bigger the bait the bigger the fish too! Cheers and hope you beat that 50 pounder!
Nothing like flying in a small boat, I could get my alumacraft T-14 u to 28mph with just me in it, all that was in the water was the back foot of the hull and the motor, rest was up on plane and catching air! Fun times ripping across the lake.
A good thing me and my buddies do when we go jugging is get out in time to catch bluegill. We will catch bluegill, keep them alive, then circle hook the bluegills by the back end of them close to the tails so they can stay alive and swim around. Usually works pretty well with channels, blues, and flats..
Man go to Tawakoni. I know you know where that lake is. Jan-feb and set in 4-8ft of water in some timber or off of the willow line in coves...anchor up, throw out some rods with big cut gizzard shad, and just wait for the takedown. Caught a nice 47lber 2 years ago.
I believe he's enjoying his new boat
Proof that you don't really need a 50k bass boat to enjoy a day on the lake.

Nothing like flying in a small boat, I could get my alumacraft T-14 u to 28mph with just me in it, all that was in the water was the back foot of the hull and the motor, rest was up on plane and catching air! Fun times ripping across the lake.
John boat vids are the best also big gizzards circle hooks seem to work
A good thing me and my buddies do when we go jugging is get out in time to catch bluegill. We will catch bluegill, keep them alive, then circle hook the bluegills by the back end of them close to the tails so they can stay alive and swim around. Usually works pretty well with channels, blues, and flats..
Jon Boat Jingles , so cool LFG !
I like the new boat! Glad you were able to get a catfish on your first outing.
Never miss your awesome vídeos
One of my favorite blue catfish baits is shrimp. Just put it on a circle hook near the bottom and you will catch some.
Lake worth!!! Drift fishing half of a 8 inch shad in 20-25 feet or jugs, need to try it it’s close to you, catching 18-60lb blues
Hey LFG my advice would be to put those lines out near steep drop offs and some sort of tree cover
