KA24de Swap into my 300zx fights me

  • The Nissan 300zx is commonly swapped with a V8. Not often do 4 cylinder engines find their way into a project car Z32 engine bay. I decided to take my chances in trying to fit a ka24de into it. I thought it'd be easy since its technically a smaller motor, I was wrong..

I like that this build is done by a normal guy, on a budget, in his driveway, using hand tools and floor jacks. Nice to see someone on youtube building a car like how we normal people have to.

Trying my best mang! I don't want to sacrifice quality for quantity tho. I'll squeeze in a midweek video when I am able to get ahead!
But most of my videos take about 3 days to film and an addition day to edit/upload/thumbnail/title/description/subtitle

To get the engine wire harness out, you have to remove the Evaporator box. There's a metal plate with a large piece of foam on it that squished the harness against the fire wall and one of the bolts is impossible to get to without taking out the evaporstor box.

@23:19 i know you arent on final install, but when you are final install dont forget to attach the ground wire that comes off the transmission itself and it attaches to any one of those 6 trans brace to frame bolts. so youre trans is properly grounded to the chasis. that is what that little white plastic clip hanging off the trans cross member brace is for.

The motor mounts being so close makes a lot of sense. The VG and KA share a lot of the same engine bays. The block for the VG30DE is almost the same as the VG30E (same block mount bosses) from the D21 truck that also uses the KA. Nissan did a LOT of part sharing with those cars. You might want to see if the truck KA mounts will set properly into the Z32 bay (unless you've already modified them by this point.) Great content man. Looking forward to a KAT powered Z.

Here's a fun random fact, to make it easier for removal, insert your index finger in the hole that nissan drilled in the center of that wood, bend your finger tip and pull outward. Those Japanese thought of everything. Oh and the bash bar mounts go inside the frame rail far because the round cylinders are a shock absorber. Back in the day they were called 5mph bumpers, they collapse to absorbe the impact if the bumper gets bumped with anything under a 5mph hit.

there is a tiny fill plu on the front or back side of your engine hoist ram housing. dump hydraulic fluid in to that hole until it starts to over flow.. then start pumping that handle again. it will work as it should. unless the o-ring failed, but i dont think it has, as if it did, the motor would start dropping like a rock from the pressure. ive had this happen, it just needs more fluid. id pretty much be willing to bet on it. pretty much lmfao

head up when you go to remove your efi harness for the new one, there is a fire wall plate attached to the (internal) cabin side of the fire wall, 10mm nut, you can get to it with a ratcheting wrench but it will be a bitch and will test your patience, but loosening that will allow you to better. old one you can cut in engine bay and just pul the ecu connector out through the cabin side, but when installing the new harness for you ka, youll def want that plate loose, dont remove completely though, as if engine bay ever catches fire, that plate prevent fire from spreading into cabin as easily. and could help to save your car from burning to ashes. plate is directly behind the large air handling box that is behind the radio in center of dash, can only be accessed ecu side of car, dont have to remove tray behind ecu but it will make your life a million times easier! much respect!

@@PrizzaMike a little clearancing isn't bad if it is a steel pan. Don't go overboard. It would be better to build a cross member that fits so if you ever have to replace a pan you don't have to worry about destroying another one making it fit.

Get rid of the engine run power steering. Get an electric power steering pump from the junk yard, itll free up engine power and space. Makes it easier to run the lines too. Perfect time to do it. Alot of newer cars have these pumps. In Australia we get them from holden astra's, I think Volvo have them too.

Didnt know the 300 trans tunnel was so tight. If you want you can try the excessive trans bracket i used it on the s14 for my cd0a swap it fits like oem but the bolt holes are slotted for adjustment

Pretty neat what you got going on, ditch all the power steering pump/line junk and use an electric Volvo unit. Also if you don’t want to fuss with harnesses you could carb swap a KA twin cam truck motor and open up a lot of room in the engine bay.

What I want to know is why use a KA24DE instead of a VG? Now, I know the KA24 is a really cool and under appreciated 4 cyl dual/ joint cam, but wouldn’t a VG30 produce more power with simple mods compared to a built KA?
