Machan´ is not a sinhala word. it came from tamil language. it is not a pleasant word. but now it is widely use in sinhala. sinhala language is an indo european language derivate from sanskrit and pali languages but now widely mix with portuguese, dutch,English and slightly with tamil.

Machan is a Tamil word. It’s used to call your second cousin or brother in law. In Malay it’s “Abang ipar” for brother in law, not machan
