My dads computer would not start Windows, because of this error. Since my dad is not with us any more, i had a hard time trying to fix his computer. Most of his pictures if not all i save earlyer. After days of hard work trying everything i could think of, the disk clean worked. I want to thank you for your video and your help. I can now use ny dads computer again. Thank you. ❤

I was simply changing windows of my brother's laptop. Done simple process as I did to many laptops. Without watching anywhere I formatted the partition as I had done on many laptops where I was about to install OS. But after that I saw the error or whatever thing it was.(It was saying windows can't be installed on Drive 0 partition 5) . I was shocked. I tried many times but can't solve it and previous windows was also deleted coz' I formatted that partition where previous windows was installed. I searched everywhere. TH-cam, Google, Quora etc etc. But I did't found the solution for it. I found but was the solution that erases all data. It was my brother's and there was imp. docs and files. After 2 hours I was tired of searching and I was going to say sorry to my brother but when I again opened TH-cam don't know from where but I found your video. I seriously was happy and got relief. Thanks! Rebuilt my computer after a crash. Spent a few days of frustration trying to figure out how this new stuff works. Method 1 worked for me. My target disk partition had an issue; needed to be deleted and reinitialized. My new PC boots in 15 seconds, in slow mode. :-) Now trying to figure out why my Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 DVD won't run. Cheers!

You know this works when all the comments are talking about how it works. Also, this works.
That confuses me when it looks like the previous OS is loading. That can be confusing and I can imagine some people erroneously restart their computer to try it again and again not realizing that they did not do it wrong. It should give you a clearer indication that the Windows installer is loading or even show Windows setup instead of the normal startup screen. It would only make it easier for people who have never installed Windows 10 before. Like Windows 7 it would give you a few seconds to press any key if you wanted to start setting up or repairing Windows 7 and not mislead you into thinking that the OS you wanted to repair or completely reinstall was loading instead. That is assuming that you have a bootable USB drive plugged in or a Windows 7 disc in the drive or you would obviously not see that.
A few days back when installing windows 10 on a laptop I was thinking that I should add this information to the video at the time of making the tutorial. Hopefully people will read your comment. Thanks for the update.

Hey there! Setting up a dual-booting Hackintosh and, for whatever reason, the install I was using demanded that the GUID/GPT partition be used. I had no trouble installing MacOS, but was beating my head up against a wall trying to get a Windows install to work. This guide was absolutely invaluable in aiding me! Thank you SO MUCH!
Tip for those having trouble with method 1: In Rufus, BE SURE you're formatting the USB stick as FAT32 and NOT NTFS!
You are a champion that's all I got to say. I followed the tutorial exactly and I finally got Windows 10 installed on my Samsung SSD!
But I do want to format the drive!
You can select the drive on which you want to install and then click the Next button. If there will be a previous version then it will warn you that it will change to Windows.000 (from where you can later access the old data like Documents, Desktop, Downloads, Pictures etc.). If you are OK with that then click Ok and Windows will get installed on the same drive and you can access the older data later on. Hope that helps.

The disk must be converted to MBR partion & you missed a command line in the diskpart. *convert MBR* should be typed after typing *clean* before leaving CMD.
What I did to remove this error is
1. I formated the disk in installation menu.
2. I deleted all the partitions.
3. There was unallocated space of the size of my entire disk.
4. I created new partition of the whole disk.
5. Done!!
I hate uefi and gpt - and the laptop with windows 10 nearly went through the window until i googled gpt disk and yours was the first video to come up - i am so glad it was, i went down option 2 and diskpart - what a time and life saver. This has been stored for future win 10 upgrades. Thank you so much for this video.

So I ran sysprep and then it all went to hell on my Lenovo. Had a restore usb and it failed, had a bootable usb with windows 10, could not install to partition. I am a newbie at 30 years in the business and never ran into this. You saved me!

Amazing solution for me. I was banging my head up against the wall trying to use a recovery disk to install/restore to a new disk, but appartently the new disk had a newer OS (like windows 8 and I was trying to restore windows 7 on this refurbed disk). Once I tried using the original Windows 7 install disk, I got the GPT error. From there I used a bootable disk repair utility called Bart PE and brought up diskpart on command line. Followed your exact instructions and I'm installing from the restore media now! Thanks a million!

Thanks for this video. It lead me to an even simpler way to get Windows 10 2004 installed on my MacBook Pro Late 2011 running OSX 10.13.6. I just started the normal BootCamp process using a Windows 8.1 installation DVD. At the first system reboot when it would be booting off the Windows 8.1 installation DVD to start the install, I interrupted that boot using the Alt/Option key. I used the MacBook eject key to remove the Windows 8.1 DVD and inserted the Windows 10 DVD and then let the system boot off it. All I had to do was format the BootCamp partititon and the installation completed normally.
Solved my problem within 10mins. Which could've take me a night (if not more).

Glad that helped. That is why I had created that video. I was seeing that problem in all the new laptops because manufacturers are using GPT / UEFI style.
I had this problem as well (booted in legacy mode if i remember well), I simply deleted the partition (not Format, also without creating another one) and then choose to install Windows 10 on it (all in the same Windows setup page from 0:31). It worked without problems.

So I made a Windows 10 bootable USB for my 2014 HP 23 as I had the "blue screen" of Purgatory, which is not as bad as the "Black Screen" of Death :) Installing the USB onto the dead HP was tricky after watching a couple of Vids as I came across the GPT "Partition" problem. After a few hours of digging I came across this most excellent tutorial, the 2nd part being the relevant one for me. Nerve wracking for an old geezer, as the wrong key push at the wrong time can lead to darkness. So, many thanks.
