  • By far the most requested topic, this episode of Rare Oddities dives into what happens when you tie a game in Mario Party 1-8 and DS. Not only that, but we check out each variation with four players, three players, two players, and even other modes.
    Trying to make this video as short as possible was a real struggle, there was just so much footage and so much to mention! Timestamps for each game:
    1:20 - Mario Party 1
    4:47 - Mario Party 2
    6:52 - Mario Party 3

    17:28 - Mario Party 6
    19:42 - Mario Party 7
    22:58 - Mario Party 8

    Seeing a ton of comments on this, rolling the same number during a tiebreak does not seem to be possible. These dice blocks seem to be the same ones programmed for use at the start of a board to determine board order. The numbers are likely predetermined before the ending scene even begins.

    • @mationmac
      @mationmac 6 ปีที่แล้ว +49

      From what I recall using savestates, the first game doesn't pre-determine your roll. Whatever number is rolled it removed from other people's number pool though.

    • @KoploperMau
      @KoploperMau 6 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      You are partly right. Rolls are predetermined, however, they are in a set order. If you start up a game and you have to roll the dice, the order is determined by people jumping against the dice blocks (literally). Let's say there is a pool of 8, 3, 10 and 9. The player that hits the dice block first will get an 8, the second one will get 3, and so on. So the order is different all the time, but its fixed anyway. I believe Mario Party 1 has 4 or 5 patterns that exist in the game. Not 100% sure though, but I know for sure its a set order that is determined by the order that players jump.

He was basically in full control of the results the entire time, save for awkward moments with the early games because they worked differently. I'm sure it took a few days to record everything but it literally shouldn't be any longer than a minimum turn limit of each game mode, and as far as in-game hours are concerned, I question if it took more than a day.

    There's a 1vs3 minigame in Mario Party 8, Thrash 'n' Crash, where the single player does a victory pose from the GCN era. Not sure how "rare" this is, but it's certainly an oddity. Especially considering that Hammer Bro. and Blooper have unique victory poses that they never do anywhere else.

    If it were up to me, the final results screen for party mode whould have you do a mash-off if you tie. The final results would reveal the players flying on small rockets funny to be held on to as if they are Warp Stars. Stars each send you ten-thousand miles, and coins each send you one mile. If the characters manage to go the same distance, it goes down to a mash-off. You can hold up to 9,999 coins and 999 Stars. You can get up to three Bonus Stars per board, and there are 20 different Bonus Stars.

    This entire scene looks.. weird. from the sorta-unfinished-looking "DRAW" graphic, to Tumble's face, it looks like something you'd see in just a dream (Helps that it's also so obscure so if you somehow stumbled across it, it'd be hard to get it again to confirm it was real)

      @@MrGOOMBAGUY Not sure about Mario Party 1, but something similar happens in Mario Party 8. After winning a minigame, the message will always say "Win", even if there is only one winner. However, this isn't present in the American version of Mario Party 8, so if you ever see gameplay of Mario Party 8 and the message after a minigame says "Mario Win!", you know you are looking at the European version of the game. This is one of many ways to distinguish the European Mario Party 8 from the American version.

    3:44 I find it interesting that Koopa actually explains the final standing of each person who rolled the dice here, but for each other tying situation, he announces just the winner of the ones who rolled.
    And the real reason Tumble got fired is because he allowed a draw to happen in Duel Mode. He forgot to follow the ancient Mario Party traditions of rolling a dice block to decide stalemates!

    I've gotten three ties by complete coincidence, two of which in DS. One was on a board and one was on a minigame mode. If I recall correctly, that mode had you pick a few minigames and the one who won the most of those minigames was the winner. That minigame mode had a dice roll at the end; the tied people jump up to the trophy thing and then a dice roll happens. Then the losing and victory animations play on top of there with only the tied players, giving humorous results.
    The last tie I had in 9. Both people were declared the winner. The text read "You are the Superstars", which... is quite rare I guess.

    An 8-card Championship Drawing is balanced in the case of a 2-way or 4-way tie, but if it's still an 8-card drawing in a 3-way tie, the player drawing third will actually be at a disadvantage.
