As there are mainly two type of purlin asked in exam i.e. I section and channel section. And method to find shape factor is in the design of channel section purlin.
In the design of channel section purlin you can find the proper use of shape factor from the IS code and the value of shape factor is already given in the code in page 137 and 138 of IS 800. When I was in my college I solved it the same way. I went through 3 books which had length process and time consuming from exam point of view. So, I tried this. You can go for it.
Hello dear, Inorder to calculate Zpz one need to use formula provide in this video which is as per the code.And then we need to assume b and d in such a way that d is twice of b.And the range of d should be between 110 to 150.And automatically if u take 120 or 150 as d the the value of b becomes 60 and 75 respectively. And after calculating required Zpz we select a section as per the question whether we r asked I section or channel section. Keep in mind that the section we select must have Zpz greater than our calculated Zpz of step 3. I hope u have understood. Or u can check me video on design of channel section to have deep understanding about purlin design. Thanks for your sweet comment.
I am extremely sorry for your inconvenience. It is the video when I had just started my channel and at that time i had no idea about the sound. But there are other videos in which sound is good. And you will find one video on design of channel section purlin too. Those two type of design are mainly important.
lf inclination of main rafter to horizontal is not given then use the formula:
tanx=height of truss÷half of span of truss
If not we can assume as 30degree
Tan x OR Tan inverse x??
Tan inverse of height of truss by half span

Zyy has to be taken from steel tables and it has to be multiplied with shape factor 1.125 to 1.14
