    Great video! Appreciate the in-depth explanation and seeing SPACE GASS in action-it's always exciting to see how structural engineers like yourself make the most of its features. Looking forward to more videos like these!

    Are you doing a lot of hand calculations at your office or are you mostly calculate beams with specific calculating programs or are you using rule thumbs?

    • @BEngHielscher
      @BEngHielscher  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hand calculations when it’s really simple but for anything more involved I use software programs :)

    Hi what analysis software is mostly used in Australia ?

    • @BEngHielscher
      @BEngHielscher  26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I mostly use Spacegass, Strand7, Ram Connection, Structural Toolkit and Ram Concept. There is a bit of variance depending on where you work though :)

    Is it allowed to use Eurocode in Australia? If yes, what do you preffer? Thanks

    • @BEngHielscher
      @BEngHielscher  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No, structures in Australia need to be designed to conform with Australian standards

    Very helpful video. Just wondering where in AS1170 you got your ULS and SLS combinations. Can’t find a few of them from 4.2,4.3 or table C1

    • @BEngHielscher
      @BEngHielscher  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! Which particular combos?

    • @Ace-nh8kb
      @Ace-nh8kb หลายเดือนก่อน

      The SLS combo where you use long term factor 0.6 and times it by Q. Since it’s a floor beam for a house, I thought it might be under residential and domestic and be 0.4 instead. For ULS, the 1.2 SW + 1.2G + Wu has me confused as well, closest thing I can find from 4.2.2 is 1.2G + Wu + combination factor x Q. In order for the two to equal, the combination factor would need to equal 0 which doesn’t match up from table 4.1

    • @BEngHielscher
      @BEngHielscher  หลายเดือนก่อน

      For the SLS combo, you’re right, 0.4 is the typical factor you would take for a residential house. 0.6 is a bit more conservative and covers other use types so that’s why I used it. If you wanted to really stick to the code and economise your design 0.4 can definitely be used. For the ULS combo, I really should have showed a + 0.4*Q on that load case. It doesn’t govern in this design but should be included in case it does in others. Thanks for bringing this up. Cheers !

      Ah I see, thank you for getting back to me. Everyone has different engineering judgement/interpretation of the standards which is cool to see. Keep up the excellent work. Any concrete elements would be super helpful, like slabs or footings.

    Do you have materials for euro code like the blue book? Let’s say Umm for concrete design?? 3:49

    • @BEngHielscher
      @BEngHielscher  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The blue book can be downloaded for free from the steelconstruction.info website. There are other textbooks around that have quick reference tables for concrete design but nothing quite like the blue book
