I'm so glad I'm not the only one who didn't really like the other two books in His Dark Materials. They were fine, I guess? But the first book was the best, IMO. ❄
I read North Child, Frostheart and Bear and the Nightingale last year for Polarathon last year and enjoyed them all and really need to continue the series!
An older magical realism I used to read every December - In the Land of Winter by Richard Grant. Also, if you like Gregory Maguire (he's rather gloomy even when he's heartwarming), I enjoyed Hiddensee, which was a retelling of the Nutcracker. I also enjoyed Girls Made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust. I adored Snow & Rose by Emily Winfield Martin. Also loved the dark cold atmosphere of Winter Rose by Patricia A. McKillip. I could probably think of more but checking out these should keep you busy.
The cover of A Scandinavian Christmas is so cuteeeee I reallyyyyyyy need to read Frostheart ❄️ Loved the editing between all of the books- was so cuteeeeee 💕
❄We used to also have Scholastic Book Fairs in my school years here in India. There was a display of books somewhere in the school and than we would be given a sheet with the name and covers of all books displayed. We could than tick the ones we wanted and they would be delivered through the school on paying the price of the book. Is that the same thing?
I was thinking The Night Circus would be a good book for winter, but also, even though you didn't like it, The Starless Sea too will be a good book. Also, I highly appreciate the fact you mentioned The Snow Queen because that is my favourite fairy tale. But beyond those three if you are looking for poetry then I have to recommend Watering the Soul by Courtney Peppernell. I would describe this as soft winter poetry, and it was so comforting and beautiful.
Midnight in Everwood is on my tbr this month & I just added The Raven & the Reindeer & The Bear & the Nightingale! Enjoy all your videos & your good vibes! ❄❄❄
Your look beautifully festive in this video Ashleigh 🥰. I have never got to the point of owning a kindle, as I love physical books. What do you like about having a kindle? I have gotten into Audio books in the last year or so, as if I can't focus on my physical books I can listen to something, and still be reading even if I'm listening. What beautiful winter books you have 😃 x
Thank you so much 🥰🎄 I use my kindle for e-ARCs and when I’m want to lay down/hibernate while reading as it’s much comfier for me to just tap a screen with one finger than try to hold a book aha
It's a shame that Book of the month isn't available in Australia. These are very cool winter reads Ashleigh- pardon the pun... I've read Frostheart 1 and 2 just need to read the 3rd book. I have wintersong on my kindle but I'm yet to read it. Its been described as winter meets Labyrinth. ❄
❄️ Katherine Arden - The Bear and the Nightingale is a book I really enjoyed
Aw yay! One of my faves 😍
The audiobooks for this series are done beautifully. Highly recommended listening for anyone wanting to read this series!

You just reminded me to pick up the Raven and The Reindeer, also need to check out Snow Queen. Great recommendations! ❄
The Raven and the Reindeer was such a lovely surprise to me, I hope you love it too!
❄️ The Bear and the Nightingale was okay but not great for me. You inspired me to reread Narnia though! 🥰
Narnia is such a classic 👌🏻😍

Love your jumper, where did you get it? ☃️❄️
I got it secondhand a few years ago so I’m not sure where/if it can be bought now I’m afraid!
@@AFrolicThroughFiction damn lol never mind thank you for getting back to me. Love your vlogs by the way ☃️

I was honestly so disappointed by Wintersong. The only real connection to Labyrinth it had was the Goblin King
