AHHH THANK YOU! can you do a short video on gray hairs & ways to delay it (other than distressing & assuming early gray hairs are not hereditary) pls :) would love to hear ur take on this!
I've been using glycolic acid every night now for a month. My skin has almost cleared up, my pores are looking lighter, my skintone is more even. I can't even believe it. I intend to keep using it long term because it's been working so well with my skin. I used to use it before and it irritated my skin to the point of bleeding, but after working on my repairing my skin barrier, I'm able to use it every night.
@perlapamela2023 First, I started off with using lactic acid every night for a month to let my skin get used to exfoliation. Then when my skin calmed down and the purging stopped, I moved onto glycolic acid. I only use it at night and my routine is: cleanser, glycolic acid, cosrx propolis toner, illiyoon ato ceramide cream. It works so well for my skin but your skin might not be able to tolerate it. How often are you using it? Maybe start off with once or twice a week and build up your tolerance. I hope this helps and good luck!
Hi there! Did you use ordinary's glycolic acid? I have moderate to severe acne with lots of old and new acne scars. I am noticing large pores and atrophic acne scarring. I have brown skin. Is Ordinary's glycolic acid worth a try? I am thinking of trying glycolic acid because of my old scars, but in addition to it, I would like to know about any affordable hyaluronic acid brand to plump up those atrophic regions. If anyone has any suggestions, don't forget to reply please. I am tired of covering my acne scars. 😔
I use TO Glycolic Toner for armpits once a week, for exfoliating and killing bacteria that makes oils smell, after 1 minute I wash it off and use an antipespirant.
I’ve been using the ordinary glycolic acid with Kerasal on my feet and it really helped my calluses especially thickened skin in the heels. I follow with lotion then aquaphor ointment
I have seborrheic dermatitis and I’ve tried a ketoconazole shampoo numerous times, but it has NEVER worked for me. Made my scalp even oilier, itching didn’t go away AND my hair mattified, lost it’s texture etc For me the only things that have worked are ACV and the glycolic acid toner on my scalp. I do the toner once a week. I apply it on my sectioned scalp, lightly massage it in, let it sit for 10-15 mins and then wash it out twice with a SLS free shampoo (that also has ginger extract) Because of this I don’t even use a clarifying shampoo since the glycolic acid already does that job and it truly works like a charm!
I’ve tried different methods of hair removal for my legs: shaving, waxing (soft & hard), epilating, and not one method is able to keep me from having ingrown hairs. I bought the glycolic acid and only applied for 3 consecutive nights and I am happy to report the amiunt of ingrown hairs have decreased tremendously!
I love The Ordinary on my scalp, but use it as a pre-shampoo treatment a few times a month. I just leave it on for 10 mins or so, then gently massage my scalp before shampooing. I think it's really helpful for just overall scalp health? Not necessarily for dandruff specifically but it's just helped make things up there feel healthy under all that hair! My mom used to use Seabreeze as a scalp treatment for us in the summer when we were dirty, dirty kids, and this feels like the upgrade version of that!
@@samaraslan9612 Yes it helps! I used it every other day (if there were no sore spots). I put it on my thick areas and massaged it in, waited about ten minutes and washed my hair with on of many salycilic acid shampoos or coal tar shampoo.. it helped tremendously for loosening and getting rid of the excess thickness! I also did some unconventional things that I shouldn’t have been doing, but my scalp psoriasis is in “remission “ now. Not anywhere on my scalp at all!!
When I started using AHAs for body odor (Lume deodorant) two years ago, I stopped getting HS flareups in my underarms. I think the exfoliation is keeping my sweat glands from clogging up. After a year of no underarm flareups, I started using body lotion with 5% glycolic acid 2-3 times a week on my inner thighs and inguinal area. I've had a couple start to swell up there, but they came to nothing and disappeared. I'm thrilled. I have a mild case of HS to begin with, so it might not be the same for more serious cases. I have to be aware of keeping the body lotion and deodorant off of areas that get sun exposure, though!
I recently discovered your channel and I'm SO HAPPY that I did! Thank you so much for all you do! Oh, and both of you have great personalities (and smiles!) and work very well together.
When they disagree, I learn more 👀✨ very interesting video, only question is since there are lymph nodes there, is there any potentially dangerous possibility for glycolic acid to affect/damage them? My best friend got cancer on her armpit (she was 25!) and almost died, so I am very weary of what I put there...
for the glycolic as an underarm bacteria killer, I've heard "use it once a week or less. - try it out and forget about it so your skin doesn't get over-exfoliated."
One more crazy hack - glycolic acid for a mild case of swimmer’s ear (instead of usual vinegar). One time that was the only acidic thing I could find in my bag and it worked great.
been use glycolic & salicylic acids on my underarms for years (Nip/fab brand pre-moistened cotton rounds). Works awesome when waxing to prevent in-growns.
Before I started using trentinon I was using a glycolic acid. It was an expensive product that my daughter gave me. I noticed it brightened my face. Trentinon only just started doing that after almost 7 months.
I use glycolic acid under my arms after a shower before using deodorant. I use aluminum free ones. Sometimes in the past when I would use aluminum deodorants for even just a day ir two for events like a wedding etc where I didn’t want to sweat after I went back to using aluminum free I noticed just one or two uses of “ regular “ aluminum deodorant had clogged my pores so much. I’ve been doing this for years and every time the same things happen but they don’t look clogged to the naked eye until I stop using it and my pores start clearing. Acids under the armpits on the feet body etc for me are a 100% yes. I think most dermatologists might shy away from it because they’re always extremely concerned about irritation and patient complaints about irritation etc. and there’s not a lot of data currently, but it works. I think if you’re not completely daft you can use it and be fine. Like with every product start with a low percentage and patch test. Some people may need once a week some a few times a week. Some a very low percentage some a little higher percentage. As long as your armpits don’t look red or raw or irritated it’s fine. Just pay attention to your body and skin since we’re all so different. I also like to hydrate the area periodically under my arms to keep it soft and barrier protection there as well. My deodorant also is gentle so it doesn’t interact. If you’re new to an acid under the arm pits don’t use it right after you shave at first until you know you can tolerate it. You can also start with a glycolic or salicylic body wash under the arms first before you transition to an after shower leave on acid to see how it works with your skin. Everyone’s different if it doesn’t work for you don’t use it. ❤️
I use this sometimes too because as an esthetician I know that ingrown hair serums have the same ingredient and we all know that it exfoliates. Be careful not to use it everyday, you can get a burn. I would say once or twice a week and use it at night when you’re not putting on deodorant. It works great for dark underarms, ingrown hairs and deodorant build up than tends to make your underarm smell. For daily deodorant, you can use chlorophyll in your drinking water and bentonite clay as a treatment 2x a month to detox your armpits. I think that’s the only way you can go without deodorant or natural deodorant.
I absolutely need this for my legs, I have tiny spirals of hair growing just below the surface of my leg skin and been looking for a solution (and I will of course follow your instructions for better shaving from your dedicated video!)
I use the Ordinary glycolic acid once a week with excellent results each time, and my skin is very sensitive. Actually, it radiates me the following day

Thank you for this very clear and informative sum up of Glycolic acid in skin/hair Care! I was Reading a papper published by the “American Journal of Kidney diseases, AJKD” recently with the following title: Acute Kidney Injury and Hair-Straightening Products: A Case Series And my question is: what do you guys, as dermatologists, think of the following paragraph of this paper regarding Glycolic acid? …This led to an increase in the use of glycolic acid derivatives in hair-straightening products. Although these agents are widely approved for cosmetic purposes in many countries and are marketed as “formaldehyde-free,” several studies suggest that glycolic acid derivatives may also release formaldehyde when exposed to high temperatures. Reading this article made me really concerned with using Glycolic acid as an exfoliating agent. What is the temperature at which Glycolic acid might release formaldehyde? if this temperature is in the biological range, then, is there a certain dose or frequency of usage which is scientifically/clinically proven not to release formaldehyde in the body? I would really appreciate it if you kindly clarify on this😊
I’m a skincare nerd (skin therapist educated) so this was nothing new for me but you guys explain it way better! Taking notes;). ❤️ The right ph alone already works very good to reduce frizz! The wrong ph makes my curls look awful.
What brand do you use and how do you put it on? On the scalp or the hair stands? I have super frizzy hair and am willing to try this hack but need to how. Thanks 😊
You both wanted feedback on how you look in the second video(after the first video messed up at the end). It looks,to me,like both of you have more hair,so your hair-lines are lower, making your foreheads smaller( I think I said that correctly). You both have more hair. When you asked for the feedback, and I looked,I saw it pretty much right away. You both look great. Also,I appreciate your great, helpful videos, and your obvious, delightful friendship. It did not work for me. For face it did nothing and the smell is too bad, so no fun applying it. Tried my back or underarms to prevent ingrown hairs, but it caused more breakouts, so I just threw it away. I was only using it once a week or less. Glad it works for many people.. Great video! Thanks for the info.
I use 5% glycolic acid on my mons as aftershave lol. It made sense to use skincare products there because it's such a sensitive area. I'm super prone to ingrown hairs.. they always get infected & fill up with dead skin cells so I use retinol to keep the skin shedding regularly. When I do get the occasional boil, I use a benzoyle peroxide spot treatment. Always finish up with a gentle moisturizer. I have a whole routine for down there & use the exact same products I use for my face.
Thank you so much for this! It was so interesting how people are using it in other ways. I have the ordinary glycolic acid toner, i bought it for my face and that’s the ONLY place I’m going to use it. You are both GORGEOUS!! I couldn’t pick one over the other ❤❤
I want to use both salicylic acid and glycolic acid but I need help. I want to use them both 2/3 times per week but should I use them both on the same day or not?? ( skincare )
I use glycolic acid serum for my pores, I have an acne-prone skin and when I tell you acne-prone skin I MEAN it because my dermatologist prescribed me Isotretinoin 2 years ago that’s how bad my acne was So, I was trying to keep the results after I finished the course and started using adapalene (not everyday) it’s great I had no or little acne while using it but I had large pores, some blackheads and whiteheads and my dermatologist recommended that I add glycolic acid to my routine (not everyday) and it was the best thing ever! It removed the texture that I had because of whiteheads and oil buildup BUT you really need to use everything in caution and ask an expert how to use it in details
What about using glycolic acid not for dandruff but for just regular exfoliating a scalp to get rid of product build up and opening follicles. I’m surprised the docs said nothing about this.
My good friend swears by a lot of these methods has been for years. Her body skin is in fact free from marks, hyperpigmentation and it’s bright! I am too lazy to be consistent and it’s hard for me to apply spf on my body daily because of the consistency of body spf I even brought a spray formula to help me with my inconsistency of this. Let’s just say I fail time and time again lol
It might be a bit more expensive but the Kosas Chemistry Deodorant is a great formula. 3 types of AHA, hyaluronic acid and aloe in it too. I use it everyday and I've had no issues and I don't smell at all
Thanks Again Guy’s. The Differen has a new body spray with Glycolic Acid and it seems to be helping the body acne. Also the head acne when the hair Ingrows from cutting it really short. The Differen also has a new body wash and along with Differen Acne Treatment and Epiduo Forte seems to be reducing the skin lesions and puss on the body. Acne is interesting it seems like it’s always there and could flare anytime but with your help and these new products it’s a possibility to keep it under control.

No sweaty smell, no b.o. smell. I AM FLOORED.

Listerine! The original yellow one. Works great and has not irritated anyone I know who uses it. After 2 weeks straight you can go to every few days or even once a week or less. I was able to stop for awhile.
I am someone who could only use one deodorant brand because my skin is so sensitive. And even that brand still didn’t solve odor issues and caused some sensitivity at times. I decided to try an AHA on a whim. Best thing ever! My underarms aren’t irritated, and I no longer have horrible pit stank. I sweat, but who cares, my pits have never felt better. Your content is just awesome - very informative and easily understood - thank you! If at all or ever possible, would you both ever consider doing some vids of specific brands and the order in which everything is supposed to be layered? You’ve got tons of info in different videos about different options and I’m just wondering if there could ever be a consolidation of them presented as a brand by brand tutorial (IE. The Ordinary, etc.) Either way - really love your content and appreciate what you both do!
I imagine that The Ordinary’s glycolic acid toner is the go-to because it’s easily accessible and inexpensive. But, what about using salicylic acid instead? That’s also antibacterial, but not as much of an exfoliator. Like a salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide face wash for the underarms?
There’s quite a bit of data I can find re carboxylic acids, and their ability to reduce the water absorption of the hair strand, which in turn improves the appearance of hair, making it feels thicker and reducing breakage. Whilst glycolic is not considered the most effective for this function, all carboxylic acids have this impact to varying levels. Some of the most successful bond repair products on the market today are based on the impact of carboxylic acids.
I use The Ordinary Glycolic Acid to treat milia on my face and it's literally THE best thing I have found to treat KP on the back of my arms and inner thighs. 🎉
I got it last month. Been using it on my face, knees and elbows. It worked wonders for my face, it even helped minimize my pores and how they looked. It also made my face a bit dry (I have an oily skin) so better stick to a lot of moisturizers. For lightening my knees and elbows, it didn’t do much. Maybe I need to use it for more than a month to see results. But it actually helped my psoriases a lot (I have it also on my knees) and it actually removed a lot of the built up skin there and it looked much better. But for lightening, still waiting for results to show. Overall, this product is really great ❤
a year ago i had a skin reaction on my hand and it would flare up every-time i went out under the sun. i couldn’t figure out whether it were an allergy or not but it would itch and all of a sudden, the bumps would be all over my hands. i tried my usual creams but to no use. This happened for over 3/4 months. i had ordered glycolic acid after a lot of thought, thanks to doc V for other skin concerns and just happened to try the leftover on my hand and boom! two days later the entire flare up reduced to nothing. even the scars faded away and i had only used about 4-5 times on my hand.
I have been using the antiperspirant from derma doctor that has some glycolic acid in it to treat darkness in that area and can attest it works. I have noticed a lightening of some darkness I was experiencing over time. I debated using straight up glycolic acid to treat it but for the reasons the doctors said about irritation I decided against it.
Yeast actually produce lactic acid ( the kind that make yogurt and fermented dairy products anyway) in order to kill competing microbes which apparently is a lot like glycolic acid, so im not sure the glycolic acid would kill them and help with dandruff.
I think most people who are willing to try glycolic in the armpit is already using natural type drodorants and not antiperspirants, they're 2 different things, so yes it would make sense for this.
I just don't like the smell of deodorants... For the past number of years, I use benzoyl peroxide 5% wash (rinse off after 5 minutes), and antiperspirant (the night before, since antiperspirants actually take a while to sink into the pores and do their thing). This way I smell like nothing. I'm going to try my glycolic acid now though, since BP isn't a good match if you have underarm hair, since it soaks into the soaks, and then when you sweat it's a bleaching issue. No one I watch on youtube mentioned this, because they don't have underarm hair lol (just a collective blind spot there). Works REALLY well though.
I use the Ordinary Glycolic Acid on my 12year old as Deodorant. Not every night. Probably 2-3 times per week and IT WORKS!! No irritation. The key is to not use nightly.
I have been using lime as a deodorant for 15 years and it works so well, for a while I used the smaller mexican limes and those made some of the pigmentation go away almost completely. I also use it in my hair so my shorter hairs stay in place.
Literally the most powerful weapon in my arsenal. I love that it works instantly & there's nothing it can't take on. I use it with a lot of nourishing products & the result is "glass" skin. I just graduated from 5% to 10%. I saw products at 50% concentration & shuddered. It took months for me to get to 10% and it still stings a little. 50% would eat my whole face haha.
I use The ordinary glycolic acid as well for underarms, legs , hands and neck though i only use it twice a week and it works really well for me. 💙💙💙💙💙💙
Glycolic Acid on the scalp- I use glycolic and lactic acid body wash (and I probably use it too often), but I had some extra product left (because I pumped too much out) and I decided to use it on my head - needless to say, I burned my ears, and had burns on my scalp. My head was on fire for a solid week… I’ll never do that again. That was kind of reminiscent of when I first started using AHAs. I ordered it online and when I got it in the company sent me a small sample of a body lotion- called Triple Treat. I was like, cool!!! I burned the tops of my fingers and had burns on my face. That was a “Triple Treat” alright.
I’ve been using glycolic acid solution by the ordinary for over 2 months on my armpits and it helps with the odour but has no effect on the hyperpigmentation or whatsoever 😂

Doing same but alternate with lactic acid! Great
Yes! I do the same!
How often are you using it on your heels? I like the sound of this!
@@DeborahWalkerXOXO almost everyday
@AR-md1zq thank you, I may give this a go
I have seborrheic dermatitis and I’ve tried a ketoconazole shampoo numerous times, but it has NEVER worked for me. Made my scalp even oilier, itching didn’t go away AND my hair mattified, lost it’s texture etc
For me the only things that have worked are ACV and the glycolic acid toner on my scalp.
I do the toner once a week. I apply it on my sectioned scalp, lightly massage it in, let it sit for 10-15 mins and then wash it out twice with a SLS free shampoo (that also has ginger extract)
Because of this I don’t even use a clarifying shampoo since the glycolic acid already does that job and it truly works like a charm!
Soak every part of your scalp with organic Coconut and Jamaican black castor oil. Sleep over night. Then wash out 🩷
I’ve tried different methods of hair removal for my legs: shaving, waxing (soft & hard), epilating, and not one method is able to keep me from having ingrown hairs. I bought the glycolic acid and only applied for 3 consecutive nights and I am happy to report the amiunt of ingrown hairs have decreased tremendously!
Which brand you are using? Is there any other brand than ordinary?
I love The Ordinary on my scalp, but use it as a pre-shampoo treatment a few times a month. I just leave it on for 10 mins or so, then gently massage my scalp before shampooing. I think it's really helpful for just overall scalp health? Not necessarily for dandruff specifically but it's just helped make things up there feel healthy under all that hair! My mom used to use Seabreeze as a scalp treatment for us in the summer when we were dirty, dirty kids, and this feels like the upgrade version of that!
I actually used this specific Glycolic Acid for my scalp psoriasis! It helped immensely with helping remove the plaques..
Really it helped u?? I have the same problem, how often u use it?
@@samaraslan9612 Yes it helps! I used it every other day (if there were no sore spots). I put it on my thick areas and massaged it in, waited about ten minutes and washed my hair with on of many salycilic acid shampoos or coal tar shampoo.. it helped tremendously for loosening and getting rid of the excess thickness! I also did some unconventional things that I shouldn’t have been doing, but my scalp psoriasis is in “remission “ now. Not anywhere on my scalp at all!!
I can't even understand why nobody does that. It's literally better than SA
@@rafinha7081 I absolutely agree!! It’s an absolute gem for scalp psoriasis..
Thanks for this tip! I will have my husband try, since his scalp psoriasis is more visible, he’s always asking if the flakes are noticeable 😢
Two nights a week I use 10% glycolic acid instead of tretinoin overnight. Love that it has been shown to increase collagen as well as exfoliate.
Can you share what brand?
Can you share which glycolic acid?
@@RR-ss7dn The L’oréal Revitalift 10% Glycolic Acid serum

@@RR-ss7dn It is very reasonably priced and is like a thick serum.
You guys are so informative! Plus you're having fun, cracking each other up!
Which brand did you use for the 5% glycolic acid body lotion?
They need a lume dupe
What’s HS?
Just reminded me why I have glycolic acid! Thank you
I recently discovered your channel and I'm SO HAPPY that I did! Thank you so much for all you do! Oh, and both of you have great personalities (and smiles!) and work very well together.
Their smiles are everything😍
When they disagree, I learn more 👀✨ very interesting video, only question is since there are lymph nodes there, is there any potentially dangerous possibility for glycolic acid to affect/damage them? My best friend got cancer on her armpit (she was 25!) and almost died, so I am very weary of what I put there...
Oh my... that's a great point! I hope they answer you.
Glad to read your friend is OK now.
I would think the aluminum in regular antiperspirants is much more dangerous than an exfoliating ingredient.
for the glycolic as an underarm bacteria killer, I've heard "use it once a week or less. - try it out and forget about it so your skin doesn't get over-exfoliated."
But does the smell come back after few days? 😄 do i need a deodorant in the other days after
@@ellakivinen9587 so i use it alternate days so like 3 times a week and surprisingly its working for me. I've stopped using deodorants.
One more crazy hack - glycolic acid for a mild case of swimmer’s ear (instead of usual vinegar). One time that was the only acidic thing I could find in my bag and it worked great.
You guys should talk about glutathione capsules for skin lightening
been use glycolic & salicylic acids on my underarms for years (Nip/fab brand pre-moistened cotton rounds). Works awesome when waxing to prevent in-growns.

😭 i was hoping you‘d tell us what would be better ingredients to use for those issuessssss😊
Thanks for sharing. I’m going to find bentonite clay mask now.
Can you use after a fresh wax?
Is it good for after shaving razor bumbs or redness....? Or it gives more skin burning?
I use it for my dry heels. It works wonders just need to apply a heavy cream after. Saves time and money from getting pedicures done.
Actually, it radiates me the following day
Guys glycolic acid works ! I bought it two days ago ,use it on my under arms ,knees for darkness aswell ,I don’t smell on my underarms anymore I actually tried that back I haven’t used deodorant !!

Love the content! Super glad you came back and finished. Looking great docs😂
Thank you for this very clear and informative sum up of Glycolic acid in skin/hair Care! I was Reading a papper published by the “American Journal of Kidney diseases, AJKD” recently with the following title: Acute Kidney Injury and Hair-Straightening Products: A
Case Series
And my question is: what do you guys, as dermatologists, think of the following paragraph of this paper regarding Glycolic acid?
…This led to an increase in the use of glycolic acid derivatives in hair-straightening products. Although these
agents are widely approved for cosmetic purposes in many countries and are marketed as “formaldehyde-free,” several studies suggest that glycolic acid derivatives may also release formaldehyde when exposed to high temperatures.

I LOVE all products from The Ordinary, especially this!

I use glycolic acid serum for my pores, I have an acne-prone skin and when I tell you acne-prone skin I MEAN it because my dermatologist prescribed me Isotretinoin 2 years ago that’s how bad my acne was
So, I was trying to keep the results after I finished the course and started using adapalene (not everyday) it’s great I had no or little acne while using it but I had large pores, some blackheads and whiteheads and my dermatologist recommended that I add glycolic acid to my routine (not everyday) and it was the best thing ever! It removed the texture that I had because of whiteheads and oil buildup BUT you really need to use everything in caution and ask an expert how to use it in details
Y'all look good and I appreciate your honesty and knowledge
What about using glycolic acid not for dandruff but for just regular exfoliating a scalp to get rid of product build up and opening follicles. I’m surprised the docs said nothing about this.
I have been using it for my armpits for hyperpigmentation and I went from using deodorant every day to once a week😂
Do you cleanse and then use it?
I use a 10% benzoyl perozide soap on my armpits. Haven't worn deodorant for 3 years.
I was waiting for the “Back acne” hack so badly 😭.
I use The Ordinary Glycolic Acid to treat milia on my face and it's literally THE best thing I have found to treat KP on the back of my arms and inner thighs. 🎉
How to use it plz tell me daily or once or 2 times in weak???

I got it last month. Been using it on my face, knees and elbows. It worked wonders for my face, it even helped minimize my pores and how they looked. It also made my face a bit dry (I have an oily skin) so better stick to a lot of moisturizers. For lightening my knees and elbows, it didn’t do much. Maybe I need to use it for more than a month to see results. But it actually helped my psoriases a lot (I have it also on my knees) and it actually removed a lot of the built up skin there and it looked much better. But for lightening, still waiting for results to show. Overall, this product is really great ❤
Daily?? Or weekly?? I bought mine today, starting from today, need help.
So did it work to lightening the dark ??
a year ago i had a skin reaction on my hand and it would flare up every-time i went out under the sun. i couldn’t figure out whether it were an allergy or not but it would itch and all of a sudden, the bumps would be all over my hands. i tried my usual creams but to no use.
I like to use The Ordinary's Glycolic Acid toner on my tattoos! It really makes them sharper😁
😂
U guys rock. Best duo as you compliment each other. Plus proper medical advice
I have been using lime as a deodorant for 15 years and it works so well, for a while I used the smaller mexican limes and those made some of the pigmentation go away almost completely. I also use it in my hair so my shorter hairs stay in place.
Do you mean original lime? and do you apply it directly?, do you apply it everyday after bath

@kaycee-sh5yc Regular green limes, if you want something stronger, you can use the smaller Mexican green limes.
In the aesthetics world I feel like glycolic is so underrated. It’s my favorite acid of them all!
Thanks for the info Dr Shah and Dr Maxfield, you guys looking great❤❤

How long do you leave it on ?
