  • In this video we are back to work on this beautiful ES 335 kit from Solo Guitars. We are completing the binding scraping, clear coat, and polishing here so that we can move on to the final assembly and get this thing playing.
This guitar has an awesome burst on it that was done using Oxford Supply lacquers, and I have now done a gloss burst as well, which ended up turning out really cool. I will give you guys a closer look in the next video.

If I remember correctly, when I was little my mom had a Chet Atkins song book in the bench seat of a piano someone asked her to hang on to till they had room for it. That picture of Chet holding his guitar is why I love electrics with F holes to this day.

You have done vids before on this type of finishing/scraping/polishing but this way better with the close up of the amber-esk mix (that's not a word🤔) and the steps in scraping, as well sanding with sandpaper and scotch brite. You made it look easy. Thanks for this!!👍

That looks great….. so from a start to finish stand point let me see if I have this correct. 1- sand bare wood to 320. 2- grain fill if required then re-sand to 320. 3- sealer or primer, 3-4 coats. 4- level sand to 600. 5 - color coats, as may as required to get your shade right. 6- no sanding - apply clear coats - 4-6 …possibly using the red Scotchbrite or 800 grit in between as required to remove orange peel or inclusions. 7- wait a month. 8 - sand 1500 to 4000 then polish with compound using a system of your choice ( Maguire's Ultimate etc.) 9- assemble and enjoy……. I have four guitars waiting for finish but i'm hesitant to start…. don't want to screw it up...

I'm wondering a bit about the neck angle. I've never built a 335 and I know cameras sometimes play tricks on perspectives and angles, so I could be wrong, but the angle looks very steep? I hope I'm wrong on this.

    • @BradAngove
