This is one of my all time favorite decks! I actually will be doing a full comparison of this version along side the Indie edition and the 2nd edition by Kunati. I do already have a full review up on my channel of the indie version of the deck direct from Kat. No art changes in this edition, other than they made the art slightly smaller, and they changed the titles and designs. They added "The" to a lot of the majors. Its my favorite renaissance styled deck ever!
Ooh I can't wait to see that! I adore the deck so far and am really enjoying working with it. I can't wait to see your video! 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
oooh thank you for this walkthrough. the golden tarot is my first deck and kat black's artwork definitely have a special place in my heart. i've always wanted to get my hands on this deck but it's so hard to find and expensive. i heard rumors about it going mass market early this year but with everything else going on, i didn't keep up with the news and didn't realize it was out until this video. i'm definitely going to order it now!!
How wonderful that you can pick it up now too. I was in the same boat, really wanted the first edition but it was too hard to find and too expensive when I did. I'm enjoying this new reprint. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
So exciting that the Touchstone Tarot is finally available!! I've pre-ordered but it isn't out yet in the UK... I've really enjoyed this little taster video to reignite my longing for it!! Thank you for another fantastic video x
This deck has been on my wishlist for quite some time. It’s lovely that they did a reprint ... but man, these borders ... Thank you for sharing the guidebook too, I like the art explanation extras and her writing in the intro! x
Me too, I couldn't wait for the reprint. I wish the artwork was bigger and that there was less border (or borderless would have been awesome) but I guess I get what they were going for. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
Loved the review, particularly on how you went into detail about the card stock. I already have the Golden tarot but this deck looks beautiful and I am very tempted to purchase it. Many thanks.
I am so glad you enjoyed it. I thought this was going to be similar to the Golden, but it really does have a totally different feel. Almost more intimate and personal I think. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
You might also like the Influence of the Angels tarot which is very nice to work with along with kat Black's decks. Old art and also beautiful. Thanks for this video which helps me decide to buy it while also hoping to someday afford a fist edition which i believe is visually more appealing. Although, I bet you get used to the borders over time? Anne
I actually have the Influence of Angels and it's one of my favorites. I definitely think you get used to the borders, they don't bother me at all when I'm working with the deck. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
Oh wow... this deck is so pretty and also so you're aesthetic!!!! I can't wait to see what comes next.... journal or insert? Both? Will you eventually decide to trim? :D hehehe time will tell!
Ooh journal or insert, good question... A vintage art journal would be so much fun to make... Hmm, ideas. 🙂 I might trim, you never know. It is awfully big hehe. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
Thank you. I paid a pretty penny to get the first edition a month or so ago. Now, I'm wondering about getting the second edition. The differences seem minimal, but I might want a back-up deck... Hmmmm........ thinking.........thinking.......
I hear the cardstock is nicer on the first edition, but this one would make an excellent backup. If I had the first edition, I'd probably chop the borders off this reprint and have one of each hehe. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
@@DawnMichelleTarot The borders on this one look so much better....the first edition doesn't have the gilt frame or the off-white matboard frame. It's just that brown around the image.
I see so many comments of not liking the guilding and getting it removed. I don't know why as I love it and find it enhances the decks appearance. I have the 'Golden Tarot' and love it as it is. Having said that it's each individual''s choice. Can I ask 'why don't you like the guilding as I'm curious. Loved your walk through so thank you.
Personally, I'm not a fan of gilding because most of the time they use the cheaper stuff that has a harsh cut to the edges and as a riffle shuffler, it generally doesn't hold up to use. I find that most gilding just ends up chipping away and flakes onto my hands and reading area. Plus, I really like to be able to edge my decks myself. It's a great bonding process for me and it makes the decks feel more like mine. But that's just my thoughts on it, I am sure other people have other reasons why they aren't a fan. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
@@DawnMichelleTarot Thanks for your thoughts. I'm new to tarot and like all sorts of decks whether guilded or not. Your trimmed down version looks just as good. I'll probably end up doing this if the gilding falls away.
I have 1st edition and i like it better. No additional borders, font in the titles is prettier, matt card stock and, of course, box is just dreamy. At first when i saw images on USG website, i was a bit dissapointed. But then i learned about gold stamping on the backs and around the artwork and it changed my mind. I will buy new version anyway, just have to wait until it's available from Book Depository, 'cause USG doesn't ship to Russia. Thank you for review, been waiting for someone to make it.
I have heard the first edition is lovely but I've never been able to get ahold of it. I am enjoying this verison so far, it's lovely apart from the borders. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
Thanks for the alert! Ordered this and the Margaret Petersen. I’m going to leave these alone and just accept as art cards. Hopefully they consider a mini deck in a tin!
Here's the good news...the artwork is all exactly the same, including the happy squirrel and the gorgeous title card. It might be cropped very slightly smaller in the new edition to make room for that inside gold border. You are correct! the borders in the first are just red/brown wood grain. The brass title tags are very different as is the font. And the first edition is matt. The box is totally different, mine is a clamshell with no gold embellishment. I couldn't say for sure, but from your handling the cards, I'd say mine is thicker cardstock, still the shiny gold edges...I like them, but early on I did damage a card by hitting the edges together, and now there's a ding in the top of the gilding and card - grrrrr. But I can still riffle it! because I have no soul and I riffle the heck outta my cards full stop. The book looks like it was totally re-designed...the card art index is on the same page with the meanings...there is a bunch of stuff in the front of the book, that may be in different places...I really wish we had like a lending system, where we could just check out a certain deck at least long enough to do comparisons and stuff.
I have no soul and riffle the heck out of it... Love it!!! Me too! I'm super hard on my decks. 🙂 Thank you so much for the insights into the differences, I was going to go find a old walkthrough of the first edition just to see. I'm really glad the artwork is the same, that's the main thing. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
Oh that makes sense!! I should totally research things before I do these... But as an unboxing I just want to dive right in hehe. I'll do a bit more research and work with the actual artwork when I really get into the deck. Oh and yes, lending library would be awesome!! 🙂
I’ve agonized for 2 days. That’s enough! Just ordered a second copy and I’m removing these borders. The borders are gorgeous but I can’t use it for spreads and daily stuff with the borders. I was thinking it photocopying etc etc...but for $25.....WHAT is my problem?! Just DO it. 😆
The exaggerated edges spoil the beauty of the deck. The original version is simpler and much more beautiful. Honestly, USGAMES should have done it like the "Ancestral Path Tarot", whose new borderless edition is really very interesting..here in my country we call it "jerico idea" .. stupidity.
I get what they were going for, but I agree it does really take away from the artwork. I'm tempted to trim mine... We shall see. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
Sunset Bough Tarot just did a comparison video. I feel that the Touchstone is Kat Black’s better deck, artistically. I’m not a fan of her collaging in the Golden Tarot.
So beautiful! Thanks for the walkthrough. I actually like the borders!
I am so glad you enjoyed it. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
Thank you so much for reviewing this deck. I've been waiting for a review....now I can order it! It's so lovely....thanks!
I am so glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful! I'm really pleased to finally have it. It's been on my list forever! 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
I just received my copy and think I will keep a small border but remove the Guilding and edge in burgundy color to match
Oh that will be lovely! 🥰

Thank you so much, I am so glad you enjoy them! ❤️
Do you still work with this deck, would you recommend? Fantastic flip through, the million $ question, did you ever trim the borders? Lol.
I actually rehomed this deck because I found I had others I use more often. It’s a lovely deck though.
Such a great pandemic study deck!
I agree! 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
So exciting to see this one come back in print! The new edition looks so nice, many thanks for sharing a look at this one 💚💚💚

Good to know, thank you!! 🙂
I noticed some Tudor Queens in this deck
I haven't looked through the list of the artwork used yet, but I'm curious to see what they all are. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
Yes, I noticed Ann of Cleaves and Im sure Jane Seymore. I think they seem to be actual tudor paintings.
Boho Tarot oh yes Queen of sword is Mary the first.
Boho Tarot 😂 oh it tells you in the book, course it does 🤣
I love The Star Card too! 🙂
Isn't it beautiful? I really like the artwork in this deck. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️

oh yeah, and the Hanged Man was the whole reason I got this deck, but it's not Jesus, (or Judas) it's St. Sebastian!

I love that expression too......"I can still riffle it! because I have no soul" :D You may have just convinced me to get the second edition too. ^^
I see Orson Wells when I see this Devil card!
Hehe now I have to look at it again! 🙂

The Queen of Swords is actually a genuine portrait of England's Queen Mary, daughter of Henry VIII. LOVELY
Oh that's lovely, I'll have to look at it again. Thank you so much for sharing that. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
Bloody Mary and I recognized it right away

In my own defence, graphics software and source image resolution improved a lot between 2002 and 2007 :P
Ain't that the truth!! 🙂 It's amazing how far the software has come.
Interesting Hanged Man
That it is! 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
