I was given an older version of that brand of microscope that works quite well for smaller PC boards such as cell phones. I think the upgrades the company made will work much better for radio work due to the increased reach of the camera and working height, however, it would be nice to increase the size of the base. Thanks for the great review. Have a peaceful weekend.
I do not think it would be hard to make a bigger base for the unit. In fact you can probably make a comeplete new mount, even a swing arm. Have a great week ens.
buddy''' i bought the same one in the regular version''''' did not get the macro lens,it works good enough without the macro lens'''''''but over all im very impressed with this microscope'''''i might buy the ring lights for it but its really bright enough'''''i just cant complain about anything with it'''''good microscope'''''''73''s my friend,,,,,,james'' oklahoma.
Pretty nice and useful in soldering work on a PC board. It has an adjustable horizontal shaft on the vertical one for larger circuit boards so you can use it more efficiently to get to the center of a longer board but a bigger base would have been better. That additional macro lens add-on is a must. Thanks for showing it Buddy.
very good review, thanks! I have purchased the old "vanilla" AD407 for repair work and, then, separately, the new stand (the old one was ridiculously small and Andonstar replaced it also due to my insistence). Unfortunately, in my item, the D-shaped horizontal shaft has too much wobble inside its hood, and the scope turn somewhat clockwise under its own weight. Unbearable. I will ask Andonstar whether they may sell me a proper spare part. As regards the additional lens you have been mentioning, I gently ask you to confirm that AD407 gets a non standard M30 thread size, which is different from usual M28 telescope ocular filters. Is AD/Wide lens thread pitch 0.6 or 1.0 mm? Thanks
I did a review of one of these and liked it but thought the stand does not rise high enough. Looks like they have fixed this now. I also found a few bugs in the software. I couldn’t get the microphone to work or the WiFi. But the microscope itself and picture quality is very good. Great review thanks for sharing. My best regards Chris
Hi Chris, yes the stand is pretty decent now. I have not had time to play with the software much. Did connect it to an external monitor which works great. Thanks for the comment.
Great microscope. I would maybe only reconstruct the base plate to make it wider and deeper and more stable. Not cheap as you said, but probably worth the money.
You mentioned you were going to do a tutorial on relabeling these old radios. I cant seem to find it. Can you point me in the right directions? Cheers and thanks.
That's really nice! I've been using a large pivoting 6 inch magnifying glass with a 6 inch tube light around the magnifying glass all day. On the good side I think I finally found the 2nd failed component (and hopefully the last)on my Stryker 955.😀 I'd love to have one of these units!
@@TheRadioShop I couldn't even bigin to work on this stuff without the mag light. I hope I've found the last part I need. Its 3 weeks out though no matter what brand I cross it over to. I had no idea It would be this hard to get an APM2308AC Trenchfet equivalent. That was the little 3 legged guy that I smelled burned up when it first happened. I had to desolder the power leads and remove the power jack to even see it.
Every time you perform a smoke creating operation under the lens, you are creating the same condition as do smokers while driving their cars & the inside of the windows get coated. Recommend that you run a fan/vacuum or solder smoke grabber to pull the smoke away from the lens.
buddy has a nice little smoke fan'' its a ''KOTTO'''' i have one just like it''''i bought it when i saw buddy get one and he did a video on it''''i was very impressed with buddy's so i had to go get one''''ha ha'''''' but it works great & commes with extra filter's''''''and your right smoke is not good on camera's 73's. but ''KOTTO'' FAN'S ARE.
Prices fluctuate on Amazon. If I put it in the video I cannot edit it once uploaded. The price in in the description under the show more tab which is the first thing you see.
Hi Buddy, I have been checking these out for a while now, so good timing with this video. Sorry if this has been answered already, but will magnets stick to the base plate? Love your videos
Hi Mike. The unit is decent and the price is not that bad. The base is made from aluminum so a magnet will not stick. Butthis thing is very versitile and you could make a steel base for it.
Thanks for the very nice demonstration. The extra lens is not of the best quality, I see a lot of chroma's and out of centre unsharpness. I didn't try (first I have to buy one) but if more field of depth is needed I guess it can be obtained by using a diaphragm. It might get made of a small piece of (brass ?) sheet with a little hole made in it, or a coin or so. It must be clamped in some way just under the lens as close as possible. It might be a nice experiment.
Thanks Harry. I think the issue you are seeing is the recording of another screen. What I see is a sharp clear image with no anomalies. The problem is frame rate of the camera that I am recording with, I really need to upgrade my shop PC so I can use a screen capture software. That would make a big difference.

Nice demonstration video. You make everything look so easy. Keep up the good work.

I have 5 of those 6 inch mag lights. At my age the eyes are not the best. Good deal on your repair. Thanks for watching.

I was running a ceiling fan to push the fumes away. I do not run the Kotto extractor while doing videos because of noise level.

Hey Buddy! Do I see a new piece of test gear there on the left side of the bench? New service monitor or spectrum analyzer maybe.
Yes, Aritsu MT8802A service monitor
i noticed that too'''' ive got a avcom spectrum analyzer.
Nice scope & demo! Thanks for the review & sharing the wide angle lens Buddy. Hope you’ve been doing well. Best, Don

couldn't turn it down. was physically impossible. hahah. gear up , my man.
Haha.
Hey Buddy, that's a nice unit for sure. I've got a cheaper one that is very useful for doing the close work. :)
Hey Doug. I like this one. I have several types and this seems to be the best one. Thanks for stopping in.
$240 USD. This should be right at the beginning of the video

why
man if you could mount that on a sturdy boom pow that thing would be really sweet!
All sorts of possibilities. Even on a flex arm.
