Yes of course you can still use it without the zoom lens all depends on your application. The stock lens works for a great mini applications. Thank you for your comment Don't forget to like And subscribe

So this type of scope is made for a variety of mounts. In another mount that bottom groove would be for a ring light. But since this has gooseneck lights you're right that's where the scope should mount.
Another good modification for this would be to have the base replaced with a larger plate or wooden board that you can clamp to your desk. The scope is very top heavy, and if you're clumsy like me you knock it over constantly.

i got the same microscope and a similar lens.
the chromatic aberration on my wide angle lens is unbearable, your lens seems better, but not perfect..
