Mark Agnesi from Gibson Guitars joins the Captain to discuss his guitar journey, vintage guitars, content creation, and the Gibson Custom Shop!
A message from the Captain:
"It was great to have Mark Agnesi over for a video at Andertons. I realise that you may watch this video & wonder why I didn’t ask him about the “Authentic” incident on camera! Please understand that it is Gibson’s desire to just move on & not keep going over old ground. They know they got the tone of that video wrong, and have already apologised & tried to set the record straight in previous posts. So, on with the video…. Let's find out about Mark!"

Should have done a blindfold challenge with him and made him identify the authentic guitars from others.
Drop them on the floor. The broken headstocks you collect afterwards are all authentic
most underrated comment of 2019!
If other companies are making guitars that are indistinguishable from Gibson originals, doesn’t that support Gibson’s claims?
The one gets out of tune in 5 minutes is an authentic gibson
I was dabbing so hard, I almost broke my shoulder!
You should've given him something like an ESP Eclipse just for fun.

@@mark130471 And maybe he won't notice
@@maverick4ever09 Agree, would have loved to have seen it :-)
I met Mark when he was working at Norm's in LA. He was a thoroughly nice guy, and had plenty of time for me as a Brit just browsing and looking to buy a shirt and whatnot. There were plenty of business guys in the store looking at vintage guitars for tens of thousands of dollars, but he didn't even glance at them. But the ten year old kid who came in with his dad looking for an affordable guitar? Couldn't do enough. Bringing over guitars, complementing his playing, being supportive and talking about his music tastes. In the end the kid decided on a sweet little Danelectro for a couple of hundred dollars, and Mark was really happy for him and he certainly wasn't pushing big budget guitars.
My point is that although Gibson have made some really awful mistakes in recent years and yes, Mark has recently been a part of some of that marketing, he himself is a good guy and not the complete asshole people are making him out to be.
No.
I agree. I don’t dislike Mark, he’s doing a job to feed his family and when he took the Gibson gig it appeared that they were really turning a corner into a new Golden Age where they listened to their customer’s wants and improved quality while reducing prices. I really think there’s no way he thought he would be made to be the mean face of the shit show that their PR nightmare has become. Who would uproot their family to step into that job knowing up front you’d be the most hated man in the industry right after you show up? But now that he’s there, I bet it isn’t the dream he thought it would be.
Then again, I could be wrong and he’s a prick that stepped in the door just to play the bad guy, who knows? 🤷🏼♂️
Either way, Gibson isn’t getting a dime from me till they stop the bullshit.
I've met him and Norm a few times. They were perfectly polite and professional. I definitely liked Mark better than Norm. Hopefully Gibson is for real with this rebranding because they have REALLY fucked up over the last 15 years. When I heard they hired Mark, I felt just a little bit less skeptical. It told me that just maaaaaybe they actually do give a shit about turning things around and respecting their legacy. We shall see. :)
I understand Gibson is a vendor and Mark is a nice guy but Cap you have to at least ASK him about the video and blowback as a result.
Mark is a dick...there are no two-ways about it. It’s just that his smug arrogance, wiseass remarks and tough guy talk are only displayed behind your back. For a rather small dude, he has a pretty big mouth (behind your back, of course). Michael Lemmo (the gentleman who took over Mark’s “Guitar Of The Day” duties at Norman’s Rare Guitars) is not only a far better guitar player, but the general consensus amongst us who visit the store frequently, is that Lemmo is just a better all-around human being than Agnesi.
I came here for the comments, but all comments here are about coming here for the comments.
Вот уж кого не ожидал здесь увидеть...
Значит так, я твои видосы про диабло смотрел, играя на гитаре, а ты сам на андертонсах тусуешь)) респект!)
Ironically, your comment is also about coming here for the comments.
I disliked this video because "The Captain" didnt have the balls to (rightfully) grill Mark about the Authentic video. Sorry, but these guys want our $$, least we can expect is some "authenticity" here, interviewing this guy Agnessi and not asking about that video is like interviewing Bill Cosby and not asking about him raping women. Very disappointing.
@@mragunathan1627 Not to defend Lee, but it's very possible that he interviewed Agnosi prior to the Authentic video.

Lee must have warned him. You scratch my Gibsons with that zipper or belt and you pay for them.
@@kirkrowland4197 He definitely looks shifty.
Mark is a douchebag. Gibson is dying. And I could care less.
Smaller manufactures winning market for guitars
Fender: Makes a whole new range of incredible price-value guitars
Gibson: "My daddy is a lawyer"
Like new Gibson are bad guitars 🤷
Amen.
MojoRisin' Except they aren’t. Gibson and Fender still dominate the market, probably even more so above the $1000 price point.
Best comment hahaha
yawn . There is a difference between winning market share.. vs dominating and owning most of the market share . But since you know incredible price value guitars come out of Mexico , Korea , Indo... you still haven't done your research laddie . and Mojo.. get on a forum like Les Paul Forum and find out who all the owners and players are . You left one thing out on your little snippet .
"Chibson: thanks for your order MojoRisin.. you will receive guitar in five weeks . Thanks for order on China Custom Guitar "
Woah. Immediately went to comments.
I know, right? I only came for the play authentic puns.
Same.
@Sam Forbes I wouldn't consider it a knock on Anderton's beyond what people think of them doing this... Still lots of love for Captain and Co. No doubt.
I immediately made a comment, then I went to the comments to see the other comments.
@Sam Forbes yeah you choose what products are on your shelves, and whether you act with integrity or play the lapdog of Gibson Brands, Inc. is your choice. You think his choice was either to be Gibson's shill or having his children starve to death? ffs man. Gibson is bad™️ but they didn't threaten the guy and his family with starvation.
I just came here to see the authentic comments.

I met Mark and the gang from Norm's a few years back! What a great bunch of folks all with a passion for music! Mark (and Jen's) videos are a master class in guitar construction, identification and history! Mark has a massive amount of knowledge he's willing to share and a sense of patience that is readily evident and much appreciated. Thank you Mr. Agnesi!
When i want an Authentic single cut I go with the Telecaster :)
The original and the best.
Damn right.
I go with the Reverend Double Agent.
Authentically made by Mexicans.
Cyclone there you go brother....Spot on.
"How to sound "Authentic"... BY busting the bank.
Lol it’s not authentic unless you pay an extra few thousand dollars
Wait until you try to sell a subpar gibson used....then you'll really find the bank busted.
Some of the standards that gibson wanted $3500 for are selling used for $1700 on ebay. In perfect shape.
I just sold a signature T les paul that I bought pretty well (used), still took a $300 loss on it. Most of the used gibson guitars that I find need some kind of work.
Bought a bunch of collings, too, 8-12 years old. None of them has needed any work except one where a guy filed the nut slots (the prior owner) without knowing what he was doing. Hardly their fault.
The way gibson operates is appalling, and there's no reason it should be that way. None.
I sure won't be buying a Gibson! There are better quality guitars that don't require a complete setup with every string change.
@@daw162 At least I break even on all my EPIs and some have increased in value. My Martins are now worth far more than I paid for them, too.
Did you mean busting the headstock?

Came to the comments to see if anyone was going to make this point lol
Hey, remember when Mark was everybody's favorite sincere and decent internet guitar guy then he got his dream job and some bad advice from the company and everybody turned on him?
Yeah i don't know if it was him that came up with the play authentic thing or not but it was a bad move but i think the blame has to fall on Gibson more than him.
It's not the case for me I still like mark, I just think it's to big not to talk about in a interview setting.
I still like Mark.. It'd been best of him to leave and start afresh. I feel he's too down the rabbit hole to change now.
I don’t mind him at all. He made a dumb video. He paid in internet points. So what? I’d love to work at Gibson. I’ve got 4 or 5 of them and plan to get more. I’m telling ya man being a guitar player and also a horror movie nerd they are the two most know it all, judgy communities out there.
Yeah that sounds familiar! Lol but seriously, people are really mad with the pr department, not the messenger. There are some people who never liked Mark who are out using this as an opportunity to shit on him, but most of us know it wasn't his fault. I still love the guy, I just don't want the pr department to put a choke on him so he can't be himself. Being himself is why he was the right guy for the job in the first place
What a great interview. I hardly ever watch interviews of this length, but there was a lot of useful info shared. I’m an epiphone fan and excited to see what’s next for them!
Should have give Mark a Dean single cut 😂
Could of been a triple threat with a Jean T-Shirt as well : )
Perfect.
@parallax3d love it 😂
I'd have given him a Dean V, which is what the concurring (back when the "play authentic" video came out) lawsuit was about. Oh Agnesi, Gibson's puppet and scapegoat.
The problem is Gibson hasn't moved on from the bad PR and this was a chance to address the issues, but of course that was never on the cards.
I haven't even watched the video, I'm just here for the comments.
Same!!! I see Mark's face I click and go straight to the comment section.

Thomas Pelley No.
No leather jacket and psychopath gaze? Must be a non-authentic overseas copy.
He doesn't really do his psychopath stuff (both gazes and sudden volume changes in his voice) outside of the Gibson vids.
Maybe a tiger ate his R&D team
He's had a few hard facts to face up to since then...
sfssf holy fuckin hell this made me ROAR
It took 26 years to get his first Gibson and 26 seconds after his first promotion to go into a Gibson protection program.
Perfect and hilarious!
When Hugh Grant went on the Tonight Show after his incident, the first question was "What the hell were you thinking?" The Captain should've led with the same question.
Stop acting like that video was his choice...
WTF? Everything is choice. He took the job. I don't care what reasons be it for, for the name, status, salary, new family adventure and home- whatever. Whoever made the bed he DIDNT have to lie in it. Yep, he looked like a rabbit caught in headlights shooting Bambi. That was also a choice of integrity and personal morality. What do they say about lying with dogs and fleas...Welcome to Gibson which now has little to do with guitars.
@@TMmodify - Stop pretending that Mark didn't have any agency, are you implying that Gibson PR folks held a gun against his head and forced him to do that video? Of course it was his choice to go through with that idiocy (it even looked like he enjoys spewing that nonsense), it might not be his idea but he agreed to do it. I did quit my job in the past because my employer at the time asked me to do something that clashes with my values, and I was in a far more uncertain position than Mark, so don't give me that 'he had no choice'.
@@TMmodify Its HIS STORE ! He did not have to have this douche there.
@@Cycloneshockey94 Lets not forget, Lee probably has a ton of Gibson inventory that he needs to sell at a point where the Gibson brand is tarnished, and regardless of Gibsons quality control issues many players still want to own an iconic brand, and if Lee or any other retailer want to distribute this junk, theyre gonna have to suck corporate ass to compete.
Holy Crap! Haven't even watched yet but so excited! Setting all my EQ's at Noon in your honor... and a little bit of reverb.
lol
I must thank Mark for helping me find the best Les Paul I've ever played, a Tokai LS136F. Went looking to play alternative after his ground breaking video.
Barkyshards I needed, sort of needed, a new guitar and wanted an SG, but no way after that video. I bought a telecaster. I never knew how bad they (Gibson’s) were though, but after that video the horror stories of overpriced shit began to flow....Now I know they make shit, and they’re a scummy company as well. I’d like an SG still, but I can’t do it. I’d feel like a fool giving them my money. There’s other brands out there much more deserving. I’d be ashamed to own a Gibson now. “Lifestyle Company” lol. What a joke Gibson is...This clown is the jester.
Barkyshards had a Tokai LS150... killer guitar and better than most things in Gibson’s Custom Shop. only decent Gibson I ever owned was a 2001 ES335.. rest are all forgettable to be honest.
Brent Nel I’ll have to check that guitar out in still looking for a guitar. Since I didn’t throw away my savings in a “Gibson sticker,” I can have a few cool guitars.
@@xblackcatx1312 tokai les Paul's are awesome, really feel like old 59/60 Gibbos
I don't think this is Mark's fault
About Tokai though, I tried an LC230 today, and compared it with an Eastman SB59.
Believe it or not but it blew the Eastman out of the water. I instantly had a vibe with it and it was reeeeally hard to get out of the store without
Why do I need to play an authentic Gibson when other brands charge less for better quality?
Even 300$ chinese chibsons have better quality from what I've read LOL
because of the name.
Slash still loves them, Kirk Hammett still loves them etc etc. Its really not that bad. You need to find your one. Every brand has imperfect guitars in their range.
@@metalpuppet5798 PRS don't
@@adrianmoore8840 I play a PRS and I think its great but it does have setup stability issues. Not all of them are perfect. and they are WAY more expensive than the usual non Custom Shop Gibsons. Mine was 3.300 Euros and thats not a lot at all for a PRS.
I’d like to thank Mark and Gibson for turning me on to PRS through their Play Authentic campaign, lawsuits, running over guitars, etc. Since Play Authentic started I’ve purchased 3 PRS guitars. Thanks Mark!
Even their basic working man S2 line is made better and more consistent
I'll stick with my yummy japanese Burny. Cheers Gibson! ;p
Amen, have my first USA made Dean Z Time Capsule on the way. Could have been a Les Paul Std 60’s but I’m not giving those pricks anymore money!
I bought a 594 McCarty as well...
kabukiman69 Yes I have an S2 Standard 24 Satin. It was ready right out of the box.
I own Gibsons and I admit I am currently disenchanted with Gibson, but I really want Gibson to succeed. Thank you Lee for the professional interview with Marc. I hope Epiphone releases a Les Paul Jr as they make Les Pauls. Can’t wait for Epiphone 2020.
I've been saying this for years: I'm a Gibson player through and through. While they might be my favorite guitars, they are my least favorite company.
I've often felt somewhat cursed to be a Gibson guy, and I *almost* got my hopes up before things got a bit too....authentic.
Hence why every Gibson I'll ever own will be bought used.
Ha sucks but true ive tried to jump to other brands nothing feels like a Gibson SG
@@socalliving878 So true, don't sleep on the Guild ones though. Different, but a great alternative for SG fanatics.
I've always been a huge Gibson/Les Paul fan... but over time as i've gotten older, y'know what, that's actually changed, and it has completely nothing to do with their backlash! Im just talkin guitars here. First I should say the SG is still prob my no1 fav guitar, they're just so comfortable and fun to play. But in all honesty... Fender make better guitars with less issues! My second fav is good dual humbucker tele (coil tap) those things can do anything... but who cares really, I'm more interested in making my own these days!
@Thomas Anthony Yeah, but your scale length is so wrong for me. I've never picked up a PRS and had it feel like anything other than someone else's nice guitar.
Oof controversial guest inbound. Honestly a good PR move would have been to admit their wrongdoing in this interview publicly, then they could move on, not avoid the topic like they’ve consistently done. I get that it’s probably not Mark’s fault and Lee wanted to just keep the interview safe but if Gibson had any cop on they would have used this opportunity to address their mistakes and at least then we could start “moving on”. Until then, their public perception isn’t going to change.
Adam Cogan, totally. A missed opportunity. This could’ve been a major stop on the Apology Tour.
@@JohnnyArtPavlou It's pretty telling about how the company isn't apologetic at all. Mark even talks about how the Gibson brand is "firing on all cylinders right now". Sure. Whatever you say Mark. I played a $800 Hagstrom at the store the other day that was way better than the Modern Classic LP they had in stock. I'm in the market for one, but I'll look elsewhere for an LP style guitar from now on.

@@JohnnyArtPavlou Those do look great. Do you happen to know of LP style guitars with satin necks?
jdiggitty, no, but I would just google that. Heck, call Sweetwater they’re great. I looked at a few reviews and the Eastman seems to have substandard fretwork.
I would certainly look at the PRS SE guitars. Beautifully made an a great value for the money. I have the SE Soap bar. It’s not bad. It’s a little bit like a Junior.
If Mark was smart they would have opened on him and Lee playing non-Gibbo LP's. Immediately faced up to the elephant in the room, apologised and dropped some self-deprecating jokes. They could have then moved on to a relaxed and interesting interview without all the tension. This was awkward and forced.
@gibson please listen to this wisdom☝️

I think that hiring Mark was a mistake and that makes me worried about the current corporate vulture owner’s ability to make Gibson great again.

Gibson is directly responsible for the misconception of what a great brand Epiphone was. What needs to happen is they both make high dollar US made models, Epiphone gets it's actual line of guitars back and drops the Gibby designs, and they both make cheap Asian made starter stuff. Problem solved.

@@michigangreen1915 I'm at 25m, watching at 4x speed, just can't stand the BS. And btw, it's because Gibson & Mark never apologized for all of their shit. If they'd at least apologize, that's one thing, but when ass wipes try to just hide everything under the rug and hypocritically pretend like nothing happened or is going on, and are continuing to do their bullshit, you shouldn't forget, nor forgive. And if you also pretend like nothing happened and shill for the company, you're guilty as well.
It's authentic hard to watch
I used to think of Mark whilst I was at work and looked forward to watching his guitar of the day videos from mon to fri.
Careful Captain, Mark Agnesi might sue you for copyright infringement.
Nice to see Mark out and promoting in-store finally!! The man is a wealth of knowledge not only for Gibson but for pretty much any guitar brand you can think of! Miss him not being at Norm's but glad he's finding his footing with Gibson!
This douche does not have a wealth of knowledge.
🤣 “wealth of knowledge”
@@Starch1b2c3d4a Not the words I would have used. Idiot, fool and stooge are much better.
I can't hear what's being said all I can see is the elephant in the room.
.
Is it safe to watch this vid or could Gibson sue me?
You better delete this post. You cannot evoke authenticity without permission.
You seem pretty authentic... I think youre OK.
Sweet! Mark sold me my first legit vintage guitar at Norms! It's cool to see Mark and the Cap'n jamming!
I'm very happy with my black gloss finished 2020 Epi LP. The QC of the build was perfect; no scratches, dings, cracks and with perfect frets. After it got some fresh strings and a proper set up of the action (was too high) it turned out great. Great value for dollar in my opinion. Thanks Gibson!
I cannot wait for epiphone guitars in 2020. They might be super good.
There has been a rumor that they're going to change the headstock either to the Gibson one or close to it either way it sounds like something else might be in the works. I've always wanted an Epiphone 335 but I might hold off until winter NAAM to see what these changes are that he can't speak about.
Good, maybe, but only Gibson is good enough
@@sloebone7399 Good pun bro :)))

Lee asking all the burning questions, oh wait
ahmad vlogs softballs
Why, Why have this guy on? Does he build guitars? No. Does he have something to offer anyone? No. He simply makes America look like idiots since people around the world think this is the typical American, ITS NOT.
To quote Lee himself from another famous video: "I guess we're walking the fine line here..."(between honesty and maintaining a good relationship with a major income provider)
@@aymericmarchand3472 yes absolutely, it's his business at the end and he is too smart to damage it with an interview
@@ahmedrashed78 Why give the guy the time? Did Gibson DEMAND a video? Manufactures, even Gibson need retailers, companies like Gibson are in the backseat these days since there is so much competition. Anderton's are not restricted like USA retailers are. They can sell all the "Knock Off" models they want to. Gibson is on its knees at this point. Sales are way down, quality is down with MAYBE the exception of the top of the line $6,000 models. Your average $2,500 Les Paul is comparable to a Epiphone made in China,
Mark Agnesia. When you authentically wish everyone forgot what you said and did.
😂😂😂😂
Dude that guitar solo he did. He really knows how to play authentic.
In all seriousness why does this episode exist? There is no important questions asked with the COUNTLESS problems with Gibson. These interviews are usually pretty good, but this basically Gibson saying we own you Anderson’s. Sell our poorly set up guitars. Dissatisfied with this.
Totally agree. To stay in Gibsons good books Lee didn't mention things once where Mark could talk honestly and redeem things for Gibson. So disappointed.
@@PeteHawthorne - I agree. Disappointed with Lee. I know he has a store and staff to consider but really this comes across as him protecting the new Porsche Cayman he has bought himself... got to make those payments folks, so I'm not going to rock the boat. I'm surprised there wasn't a high five at the end. Maybe there was, off camera. Where is Rob Chapman when you need him?
Because most of the shit being talked is from haters not by people that buy them on TH-cam. it's not a real life problem. as you heard him say They're having trouble keeping up with demand.
@@williamwinn948 No man I have a Gibson and it has terrible quality control issues ($1500 Canadian) , I'm going to sell it or trade it for something that doesn't totally suck. Gibson is going bankrupt, overpricing their guitars that allllwwways have issues, and suing Dean (a guitar company that actually cares about who plays their guitars), and their telling us to play authentic!? I mean how absurd it that? Like I'm sorry but there is no reason for this episode to exist UNLESS it's a public apology from Gibson, which this guy should do, which he didn't, and which Gibson hasn't done either. Fuck em let em go outa business they deserve it at this point.
I think that it's a shame that Mark is taking the brunt of the negative press regarding "Play Authentic". He's clearly not directly responsible, so why shoot the messenger? That said, I think it's absolutely worth criticizing the fact that the controversy wasn't even mentioned in this interview.
Mark is a hell of a person. Great player, nice guy, super knowledgeable.
Finally, an authentic interview
@ as authentic as it gets
The Captain is actually a really good interviewer!
He was probably having a John Cleese moment throughout the video, thinking to himself "Don't mention the play authentic video, don't mention the play authentic video, ..."
*comment sponsored by Gibson*
I couldn't see Lee and Agnesi. The elefant in the room was blocking my sight
Everybody likes to hate on Mark and get mad because he didn’t apologize... but why would he bring up something from the past and relive it? Move on. It’s done, over, history. Look forward, not backward
Did he say music shop employees generally can’t afford a Gibson? PAY THEM MORE THEN!!!!!!
Or Gibson should bring prices down, keeping the quality
"Abysmal" quality. You are talking such shit.
Enjoy your Harley Bentons
@@bob733333 I have tried the lower end faded Satin finish SG's, out of curiosity, and it played to it's value. On par with a PRS SE Custom 24.
People are so hyperbolic. A gibson has a very distinct feel. Most definitely not "abysmal".
What did Mark think of Chapman's authentic designs?
I love my gibson! definitely a keeper. 58 standard custom shop in washed cherry, makes me happy every time I pick it up.
I recently bought a Epiphone Bjorn Gelotte Les Paul Custom Guitar with Case. Has active EMG pickups and a bottle opener on the back. It’s a beautiful white guitar that sounds amazing! I have always had faith in Epiphone because Gibson has not been in my budget range for some time now. This Epiphone is everything I would want in a custom guitar at a fraction of the price! Can’t wait to see what the future holds for Epiphone and for you Mark! Always enjoyed your past TH-cam videos at Norman’s Rare Guitars! Congratulations on the new job and your new adventure!
I used to love watching his "Guitar of the Day" series with Norm's. He is a really good guitarist. But the Gibson shtick really tarnished his image. He accused one of my favorite TH-camr's of "fake news" for just asking a legit question. Actually TWO. Brad The Guitalogist and Phil McKnight. After that, I am done with this guy.
00UncommonSense00 fair.
Just like wampler
@@aixpert291 Not sure what you mean

Wampler can go away.
Brad was spreading fake news- he jumped right on posting a video after he heard the rumors. Guitologist is just a sensationalist looking for clicks- and you fall for it. Maybe if he stuck to the content that was useful, I wouldn't be so harsh on the guy. But he is a fake journalist spreading fake news nowadays.
I guess this is the blessing of being 68 years old: Mark's show sounded fine to me (but also, luckily, everything else I can remember from the sixties).
I’m pretty sure this the first and only Anderton’s TV video I thumbed down. Both of the Gibson’s I’ve owned were returned to Anderton’s and exchanged for non-Gibson replacements.
Just another butt hurt Gibson sucks fanboy.
Nice to hear Mark tell his story. Very fortunate to make a living in the industry.
Great to see you, Mark! I hope all is well for you. And big thanks to Lee, for another interesting interview.
Nevermind the hostility on the intergoogle towards Mark, as an Epi and Gibson fanboy, I’m excited for the Epi revival. I hope they fix the headstock. I would rush to get an Epi to join my P90 Gibson.
It is a bit sad that some of the comments blame a man who is a fan of guitar in general. Most would love his role but he is the oracle of all that is Gibson......the perfect guy for the role. Well done Andertons.
My god all the people getting panties in a twist over Gibson... if you don’t like them don’t buy one there are plenty of other choices... get over it... they have a right to protect their brand. Ok they may not have gone about it the right way but I believe they have already acknowledged that... move on life is far to short
Borealism I haven’t for the most part... I just saw the first few and realised the whole comment section was going to be people bitching about Gibson
@Borealism Oh the irony......
@Borealism f u
Thanks a lot Andertons & the Captain fpr releasing this video!
You make so many people happy! Now they can give their thumbs down and leave so many .........comments!
Best part of the video for me: 23:00 - 24:40 min
Mark is a badass guitar player. Very knowledgeable about guitars of ALL brands too. Haters gonna hate. He took on a tough job. The Gibson QC/PR situation was not going well when they hired him and invented his position. If it wasn't for the play authentic thing, he'd have very few haters right now. I hope he is able to turn Gibson around in the public eye because they are a truly historic American company. Remember, as a new employee at any company, it's kinda hard to tell your boss "nooooo, I don't think this is a good idea." I'm sure I'm gonna get a lot of dislikes and shitty responses but try and put yourself in this dude's shoes. I still think he is probably a really cool guy.
The reality is that the bashers may dominate the comments in TH-cam videos, and gear channel TH-camrs just love to stir it all up. But the vast majority of people that play these things are right behind ya. There's no point to sensationalizing what was a rather harmless video. It all got so blown out by these morons.
I still like Mark. People need to remember Gibson made him do that video. Marks videos for Normans rare guitars are some of the best on TH-cam.
Doug Garrett if only more people was able to think this way
What do you mean with 'Gibson made him do that video'? They held a gun against his head? They've threatened his family? In that case Gibson is far worse of a company than one would imagine... If not, stop pretending that Mark didn't have any agency and that he didn't willingly go through it-and consequently deserves the same amount of backlash as Gibson themselves.
I bet Lee is watching all these comments coming through and pissing his sides laughing, whilst Mark is in a local Wetherspoons in Guildford considering his options.
We're all human cut the guy some slack guys.
AAwww! We're all human, Snowflake. Gibson sucks and he represents them. Shit interview, ducking the relevant issues.
No hes a twat
Actually excited for Epiphone and Kramer stuff tbh. Epiphone did a whole of a lot right over the last years (in contrast to Gibson), has in my experience improved quality step by step and is up there with other bang for the buck guitars from far east - especially the artist and more fancy models. And I have a secret kink for 80s brands and models and I love the sight of old school Kramers. I would LOVE a nice Kramer, kinda in the bracket that Charvel is in now. Mid-Priced, bang for the buck working shredders guitars with kickass 80s finishes.
Modern Chinese Epi pro's are 🔥
Am I the only one who wishes they would offer some of these Historic Les Pauls with plainer tops?
@Inspector Most of those are too figured as well. I don't like my tops too busy. I just want some subtlety.
Two of my favorite guys in one video. Can't go wrong.
at 14:48 " I dont think many people can afford a Gibson who working in guitar stores..." What the hell is so funny about that???
Quite disgusting that Lee is laughing on this...
I can't believe it.... Lee is an owner of a store himself...
Is that shit funny??? He's either implying Gibsons are extremely expensive or music stores pay fuck all salaries to employees
Are you guys real? Do you think everyone who works at the Ferrari dealership has a 488 on their drive way? 🤣 get a grip
You missed the point bro..
The disgusting thing is that he found that funny.
Lee said most, which is true. Guitar stores and retail in general does not pay a lot. Most mom and pop music stores don’t get rich.....the big box stores have trouble staying open as it is....Gibson is just too dayum proud of their authenticity.
How have I missed the point? Did you listen to their chat? People in most normal jobs can’t afford to buy Gibsons, I highly doubt Lee was being malicious in any way.
It’s just a fact that most people can not afford a high end custom shop guitar, Mark said himself it took 19 years to own his first Gibson.
I’ve been lucky enough to own a standard, which is a great guitar and is attainable to most people (yes, even music shop employees!) if they work hard, save up etc etc.
The one I really want however is like 15k, I even laugh at myself for thinking about being able to buy it, I think this is what Lee was referring to. Chill the hell out ✌🏼

Excellent case study in not asking the questions we all want to ask...
I visited norms a few years ago and Mark was there. Was completely cool and spoke to me for ages. Very chilled and I played a 50s les Paul junior double cut. Same day he posted a video with the same guitar which was cool
