  • This flying pest trap (Dynatrap) had stopped working. The bulb had burned out, and the fan stopped moving. I had not maintained the unit in two years. By replacing the bulb and lubricating the fan assembly, it gained a new lease on life. I try to provide tutorials on average things that I fix or maintain from time to time, hoping that someone may find it useful to them. Thanks for watching. Always strive to learn something new everyday.

    That worked for me, thank you. Mine had a dead lizard that was jamming the fan. Pretty easy fix.

    Thank you. I thought I was going to have to buy a new Dynatrap. I followed your instructions changed the bulb and cleaned it. I was surprised and happy when it started working again. Thank you.

    Thanks for the info. Ive replaced the bulb a few times but never had to work on the fan before. I took mine apart as shown and found half a dried out cicada in the fan blades! Once I got that out I cleaned the fan blades of all the buggy bits, turned it on and it runs like new! Didn't have to remove the blades and lube everything but now I know how to do it when needed! Thanks again!

    Mine is a DT1260-2B. It failed after about three years. The fan quit, was not a mechanical problem although I did a thorough cleaning. After taking the unit all apart, many screws later found a circuit board inside the lid. I found a 220uf 35 volt electrolytic capacitor that only measured about 2uf. I replaced the cap and bingo, the unit took off. Caution, it is a switching power supply, be sure that when you work on it you have it unplugged. The warranty is only one year, I doubt the company will sell you a circuit board. Jim

      Quite the change in microfarad. Good find. Yes, I doubt they would sell the sub components in a replaceable assembly... unfortunately.

    I own the model 1050 and upon changing my bulb, I noticed that my fan was not working. I use mine inside so it does stay much cleaner than if it were outdoors. I ordered a new fan for my model and that would not work either. I contacted my PC repair dude to check it out and it turns out that these units have a small mainboard inside and one of the capacitors had crapped out. He removed and replaced and wala, my unit is back to catching indoor bugs! I hope this post helps you have some direction when yours acts up.

    Mine is working but chirping and squeeking. I already had to replace the bulb in the first year. Things are junk honestly. Luckily I didn’t pay full price and bought it on clearance.

    • @dhirsch1975
      @dhirsch1975  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, these are kind of goofy. Mine tends to catch moths. Makes sense because of the UV light. Sometimes catches spiders too.... because of the moths I suppose. So, they are not as versatile as I originally thought.

    • @whatfreedom7
      @whatfreedom7 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@dhirsch1975 that’s mostly what I catch is moths. Mosquitos are so little they may be in there but I really don’t dig through all those old dead bugs too much. I need to check next time and see how many I’m actually getting.

    They work good but the one I got the wire to the fan to short and there is a connector in it... yeah as soon as I took fan off it didn't stay connected.... basically worthless now.

      Yeah, the setup does look pretty fragile. I'm sure there has got to be a better way to perform periodic maintenence.

    My fan doesn't want to just pull out.Did you have to force it the first time or pop it out from underneath where the sticker was?

    • @dhirsch1975
      @dhirsch1975  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The blade assembly was magnetically held. It just popped right off. Maybe some different models have different models of fans on them as well.

      @@Dom-pf8wd you have to open the seal down there and get rid of the white plastic ring that holds the fan from below. It's OK if you break that white ring washer.
      Disassemble the fan bearings and clean them from the old grease and gunk along with the main fan shaft.
      Assemble everything in place again and put some oil lubricant from below in that hole. Leave it upside down for 15 mins to let the oil get in between everything.
      Then close the sticker, put the screw and lock everything back into place.
      Plug the device and it should run very quietly like a brand new one.

    Hello, I have the dt1775 model. The problem I having is how to get too the fan. Do u have any suggestions would be great. Thank you much.

    • @dhirsch1975
      @dhirsch1975  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately I do not have any experience with that model. I would imagine that the fan would be serviceable through either the bottom or the top. A lot of the access on these units are usually by twisting. There could possibly be a number one or number 2 Phillips screw driver screws as well. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck.

However when I turn it on the light comes on and I tip the trap lightly on the floor and the fan started working lol. Hoping its just a matter of a little lubrication time will tell. • @dhirsch1975
      @dhirsch1975  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh. Well if it's a known good bulb, then you probably have something wrong internally (fusible link etc.). Haven't had the unit taken apart yet.

  • @tiamat1628
    @tiamat1628 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yours is not clean btw.. Remove the bearings and clean the gunk (old grease and dirt) between them and then assemble everything and apply a new oil on the cleaned bearings.
    It's not rocket science and not hard at all.
    It should run very quietly like when you first bought it.

  • @emptech
    @emptech ปีที่แล้ว

    My fan quit after a couple years, none of your fixes worked. Do not pull the fan out like you did, it snaps into the bearing and once you unsnap it, very difficult to snap back in. You have to remove the sticker and with small pliers snap the bearing back on with the white nylon washer. The reason the fan is now so noisy, you didn't assemble it correctly.

      Thanks for the update! The unit I had didn't have a bearing off that nature. It's too bad that didn't work for you. Thank you for making us aware.
