    I really like the phone a lot...but I do think there are reasons why you'd doubt Google long term.

      That's exactly how I feel. I hated my Pixel 6, but when I decided to upgrade in July, there wasn't another phone available in the United States that made me want to switch from a Pixel. The 8 pro is first phone since the Note 3 to make me want to keep it longer than 18 months.

    • @Eeveewashere
      @Eeveewashere 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      True. Google is inconsistent as a company. I think many Pixel owners are hesitant to upgrade their phones until the Tensor chips are manufactured in the TSMC foundry instead of what is believed are the inferior chips Samsung supplies Google with. I don't know if TSMC will lead to better Tensor chips. Any way, I think Google will find its way through the storm and if not using some Samsung Galaxy S31 ultra wouldn't be the end of the world.

    The way Google treated the P8 and Fold made me think twice about them. I've traded my P8P for a OnePlus 12 and I'm not looking back. Maybe now is the time to really give Apple a look

      I wasn’t happy with my Exynos s22 ultra last year so I sold it and got the 15 pro max because I was a bit dubious about the pixel. The iPhone is solid and sucked me right into their ecosystem, I don’t see myself leaving anytime soon 😅

  • @bricequirl
    @bricequirl 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    Man, what you're saying resonates. I think at the core of your message is this: Google needs to make Pixel RELEVANT again. The advantages Pixel use to be two-fold (& boy they were salient): 1) The best computational photography, period. 2) Prompt & timely access to the latest Android versions.
    Circa 2019 these two points were enthralling, but fast forward 5 years they're so less important. GP8P has a great camera setup w/ great results, but please tell me who says it's the clear winner over the SGS24U or iPhone 15 Pro? No one. You could argue you PREFER the results of GP8P, but that's at most. And who can tell me the prominent features delta between A12 & A13? A13 to A14? Any big headliners from A14 to A15 coming? Sure, everyone should want their device to be secure, but this is now decoupled from running the latest version of the OS.
    What everyone wants is new & USEFUL features. Google has decided that AI is the avenue to drive on the mobile front. But I'm somewhat dubious on the clear & present evidence they will deliver these future features to their current devices. Does creatingTensor bolster my confidence? Hardly. We've now reached a level where we can say Tensor doesn't hold their devices back. Where are the breadcrumbs that lead me to believe Google has an ADVANTAGE? I can't find any. I think Google is flustered right now w/ what to do w/ Pixel. They SO want to make it relevant again, but they just don't know how.

      Pixel is superior for specific use cases. If you have small children, good luck taking a photo that isn't blurry as Hell with a Samsung. For my money, Pixel still is THE best point and shoot camera phone on the market.

    I have both a Pixel 8 and an S23 and currently cannot see how the Pixel 8 is going to get 7 years worth of updates considering the Tensor was setup specifically for AI when the first version of AI was not compatible with the companies own phone or custom hardware they designed for the AI .

    You've summed up in 10 minutes what I've been trying to articulate for the post-Tensor Pixels vs other flagships. Yes, the Tensor Pixels TODAY work fine and may even blow the socks off the competition for their software and AI features, but chances are the competition with a much stronger hardware foundation will stand the test of time much better. I recently picked up the S24 Ultra and believe it or not, the AI features were the least of my concern. Instead the raw power and efficiency of the SD8G3 is what I was looking for in the long run (plus the S Pen, Dex, stuff that can't easily be stripped away with EOL support). That's why when one of the biggest criticisms of the S24's AI features were that it was being paywalled next year, I didn't really care. I hardly use them as is but what I will wake up to in years to come is something that can get me through the day comfortably and keep up with my day to day needs. I can't confidently say the same about the Tensor Pixels, or even as a past Nexus and Pixel owner when they were on Snapdragons.

    At least in German language it has by far the best voice recognition, voice text interfaces. I rarely type anything anymore, I just dictate it. It has by far the best automatic features for received phone calls. In fact, it is, imho, the best phone, when phone means telephone. It has one of the very best cameras; always the cleanest and newest android versions, some very surprising AI features, great feature drop updates 4 times a year. I do not play games my telephone, I do business, social media and photos and never had a better smartphone. !Phone!

    I have a Pixel 7 Pro and ordered a Galaxy S24 over the weekend because of these exact reasons.
    Google's track record thus far has been less than admirable. Google pissed on the $1800 Fold. Google wasn't going to release Gemini nano on the 8 but was willing to give it to the S24. Google unlocked the AI photo editing tools for all devices.

    Just steered away of a purchase using this same philosophy. My ‘want’ was the “video boost” feature. But then it got me thinking; Why am I required to buy a Pixel 8 Pro to get this feature. Why it’s not supported on the Pixel 8? Don’t they have the same main camera, same processor?
    Video boost doesn’t rely on the zoom camera! Heck, you can’t even use the zoom or ultra wide camera on the Pixel 8 Pro when recording a boost video. So it’s all artificially looked down by Google manipulating software to create artificial requirements to force you to buy “premium” unit when in reality probably pixel 8a can even do! All the processing it’s done on their servers anyway. Or, is it that there’s not enough servers to support the demands? That’s probably it. Til’ when will this be supported? Google is notorious for killing newly announced features just because is Google. Yeah; while video boost is promising, the risk is way too high even for $400 (if you can find it at that price).
    Steer away from Pixel purchases for now!
