  • Happy Saturday, friends! I have learned SO much since opening my daycare (again). This video is a reminder to be flexible and to not be afraid of change. Start with what you THNK will work, and adjust from there. Remember, if you aren't happy, the job WON'T WORK.

    ABOUT ME:
    HELLO Sweet friends! Thanks for stopping by! My name is Samantha, my hubby’s name is Maurice. We have a “yours, mine and ours” situation (although we both consider them all OURS) when it comes to family. We share 5 kiddos, MG (11), LL (9), TM (6), KN (3) and sweet little ER (1). I am a Home Childcare Provider, a planning fanatic and a cleaning nut. If you need advice/motivation on daycare, getting and STAYING organized (cause that’s the REAL battle), meal planning and prepping, cleaning or just about anything #momlife, then you’ve come to the right place. I don’t sugar coat, I don’t hide…this is #REALLIFE. You will see messes, you will see smeared mascara, you will hear LOTS of screaming children (both happily and not so happily) and you will HOPEFULLY walk away with some tips and tricks or maybe just some comfort in knowing there is another hot mess momma out there!
    Thank you for your LOVE, SUPPORT, and SWEET WORDS! You bring a smile to my face each and everyday and I am so incredibly grateful to be able to share my passions with each of you!

    Samantha, This is all fantastic advice! I commend you for your trying to charge only by attendance. As a mama of 4 I would completely appreciate that as well. There are many parents who might take advantage of that. I'm glad that you're able to adjust your policy to work for both parties. In my book you are a fantastic daycare provider who really cares about her kids and families as a whole. If I ever needed daycare when my children were small your day care would definitely be a choice of mine. You have sound advice but, keep your family's interest at heart as well. ROCK ON MAMA! Happy Mother's Day to you!💐❤

    I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels that you need not entertain the children you care for 100% of the time they are in your care. I’m not a daycare provider, but I’ve been a nanny for many years. I just never thought it was necessary to entertain the kids constantly. They can learn to play on their own sometimes while I get other things done. I personally think it’s good for kids to learn to entertain themselves. Anyway, I love your channel. Keep up the good work! 🙂

    Great video! Can u maybe make a video about group care expectations / what’s fair to expect, etc.? I work part time at a day care and some of the parents have insane instructions and expectations (beyond a basic infant feeding plan, etc.) that are not realistic in group care. Some families require the attention a nanny can give and group care isn’t suited for them. I have a parent who comes late every day even though we are open till 6 , immediately takes out the daily sheet and finds a problem and interrogated me. EVERY day. “Why did they only nap for 25 min I wanted them to take 1 hour naps” “Why were they up 3 1/2 hours I wanted them to nap every 2 hours.” “Why didn’t they finish their 3:30 bottle?” Etc. I’m not the director so I have no power essentially. The owner wants $ so will allow this to happen. Doesn’t matter how attentive, kind, etc. we are, they always find a problem. I stay almost an hour late every day despite how well I think I prepared for this kids departure.
    I love that u are strong in policies. In my classroom (I’m also a pre k teacher) I stick to policies and usually hated for it but I won’t be walked over. I’m done getting in trouble for kids who don’t bring blankets, bring non permissible food, etc.

      Keto Sammi yay thanks for replying! Today one of the babies came with a sty on his eye & mom requested we clean it with cotton and warm water every 2 hours....while we have 6 other infants under 7 months old to care for...
      Today I felt kinda bad because my boyfriend is in town visiting (I haven’t seen him in 2 months.) We close at 6 😡 even though every center around here closes at 5:30. 2 parents came right at 6:00 and then wanted me to basically read them exactly what was written on their daily sheet. I still had to clean and sanitize the room, take trash out, etc. I get that parents want to get their $ worth for sure, but I never get to leave at 6:00 and I don’t get paid beyond 6:00 either. So today I handed them their babies with their stuff already packed and ready and said have a great night and proceeded to do my closing duties lol. Last week was teacher appreciation and I distinctly remember that these 2 parents hadn’t even given us a hug, a card, anything 😂😂😂 Sorry for that rant but since you are a day care owner, operator, and teacher you have a voice that I don’t necessarily have since I’m just a caregiver/teacher. I love your videos so much keep up the great work! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

    I’m so glad I found your videos. I am thinking of opening a home daycare and found this video so helpful. What do you mean by food program? Also- any advice for someone who knows cooking/meal planning is a weakness?

      Maybe since you asked 8 months ago maybe you have found some answers already about the food program but I have 10 years experience running my large family daycare in California and wanted to share and answer your question. I believe what she meant was the food program has multiple steps to take to be able to receive government money. You have to call your local organization for example we have 4’cs where I live; In my experience the representative of the food program will interview you in your home by appointment and give you a binder full of information for you to follow their guidelines. The representative will let you know if you will be a tier 1 or tier 2 provider; either you will be fully reimbursed for the food you provide or half and only for 2 meals and one snack! I am a tier 2 provider and feeding 12 children a day Breakfast, lunch, and snack I received about $350 a month. You will then choose how to submit paperwork either filling out paper forms or entering on your computer through a website they approve. Then you have each family member fill out and sign a form that has to be mail back to the office to enter each child into your food program group, this form needs to be resubmitted yearly. Once each child is approved you can enter attendance and the type of meals you provide daily into the system. It takes me about 15 minutes a day for 12 children. At the end of each month you will then mail or forward that months paperwork to their office for review and if you did it correctly you will receive payment in about three weeks. The representative will also tell you in the interview that they have random inspections every 3 months is what I have experienced and your paperwork must be up to date. The food program is helpful to receive money to pay for healthy food but it does come with more work on your part. I hope this helped!

    You can return the Melissa and Doug paint for a refund! Let them know it's not actually washable and that it stains. No sense keeping something that doesn't work as advertised and that you won't use. Thank you for the great video! 😊

    Great advice! We often think that we have to keep giving but we need to take care of ourselves. Also, you mentioned you were working on a menu planner but stopped because of Sarah’s but what about a daycare planner? I am not sure what all I would like in it but instead of the hourly courses maybe fine motor skills, large motor skills, math, Language , etc. maybe something help monitor a child’s progress or concern l?

    You may have touched on this and I just missed it, but what do you do if one of your own kids is sick?
    Do you close for the day?

    • @mommytomany5674
      @mommytomany5674  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Amanda Ireland good question! I try my very hardest NOT to close if at all possible, but yes, if I am contagious I will close. If one of my kiddos is sick, I usually keep them in my room watching TV and resting (my hubby is home too). If I have multiple kiddos sick, I close. I am blessed to have a group of parents that have the flexibility to work from home, but I still try my hardest to remain open if possible.
