The importance of the pocket.
The pocket is the transitioning spot of the throw. It lets the reach back get to the release. If you don't pole the arm into the pocket it is called rounding the shot. By rounding the throw you are basically throwing with just your arm. To get the proper release you need to get the arm into the pocket. This puts your disc under your face and closer to your body were all your power is.
