As someone who really loves the original game, and played it a lot both as a kid when it released and as a teen later on, I think the remake is looking fantastic! If anything, the only thing that looked iffy to me as of now was the ending of the intro cutscene, where the Blot hits the ground with Mickey and rises up. It was just the model rising from the ground with no effects, so it looked kinda goofy 😅 besides that, everything looks incredible.

Missing the jagged edges, rusty appearance and warm colors of the original. It looks gorgeous and is very detailed, but not scary, dark or intimidating. Xenoblade 1's remake did the same thing. A lot of the charm of the original games came from the grit and jaggedness of the designs. Mechon look like shiny toys instead of scary killer robots.
As someone who played this game when it launched, the remaster is SOOOO well done! Yes, the lighting is odd, but you can fix that in the settings. Im not used to the controller yet, but in time itll be like picking up a wiimote again!
I haven’t been paying too much attention to this rerelease, and started playing it today. I was wondering why it only felt vaguely familiar, but I guess this is why! They updated a lot of details! I loved this game, so it’s really cool to play it again after all these years 😊
I swear every remake that's made all anyone complains about is the lighting. Like, no shit lighting is a huge reason why games look so good now. Of course, they are gonna use it. Thank god for personal settings, but I ig everyone forgets that
What honestly really matters is the Game play and it plays great... But I will admit some parts of the game did feel too colorful for me, loke the beginning cutscenein dark beauty castle. While I think the in game version looks WAY More Better!
The eye on the massive machine at the start of this video looks a lot better in the Wii version but other than that this remake looks pretty good, look forward to playing it when I prune down my backlog
Hmmm, can't tell if this is a remake or a remaster. Could be either. Was this game rebuilt from the ground up (remake), or did they just build and retexture on top of the original code (remaster)?
I can see why there’s complaints. Having not played either, I see things in the video where the Wii looks better than the PS5. The boss on the Wii looks scarier, has a very Swiss Army knife look to it where as the ps5’s knife looks like a cheap knock off. The lighting is better all around on the Wii version. More colours used, background objects have lights that the ps5 version is missing, the lighting the boss has coming from the eye just looks better on the wii. The PS5 has some better textures but then there’s a lot of textures that look better in the Wii version. Especially the stained glass windows. In the one cut scene, the blackboard showing mickey on it is hidden in the background on the PS5 but is prominent on the Wii which adds to the atmosphere. The Oswald statue has a black and white appearance on the Wii but gold on the PS5. Oswald’s being black and white makes more sense. The PS5 uses most all the same animations but I noticed a few times where the Wii’s camera was better placed to show off the animation. The red chest opening had a very Zelda look to it with the way the camera was pointed but on PS5 the same animation had a different feel because the camera was moved.
The second stage area with the rides, the PS5 version wins on better ride graphics but loses with how bad the stage looks overall vs the Wii. Also, I had no idea the Wii would look so good with how it handles particles and lighting. Considering it wasn’t known for having the greatest particle effects, it’s curious why the PS5 version isn’t able to improve on the particle effects. In many areas the Wii with its sloppier starting point for the particle effect looks way better then the siphon like look on the PS5.
Take from someone who's never played this game. Part way through I noticed I was naturally staring at the new version way more. Every time I glance at the left I'd kinda shudder and look back to the right lol
Looks alright visually, some of that tone is lost though for sure. There are oddly a couple of scenes where the Wii one flat out looks better artistically. I also really do not like Oswalds new model, something about the mouth.
As someone that didn’t get that far in the game the first time I played as a kid and want to play now it looks good, but I don’t like the change of the robot’s eye. Straight up the 1st one was way creepier and I actually like that. The second one looks a bit generic, if the texture was better quality and they added more realism to it, I feel like it could have been slightly better, but the uncanny shape of the elongated form In the first one (made to resemble an eye behind a socket without the head) 8:58 just felt better.
Finally they've brought this game to more modern consoles. I've owned a physical copy of epic mickey the power of two for years now and never played it yet because i don't have a nintendo wii lmao. I'm looking forward to playing this on my PS5.
Only thing I don't like is how the inside of Mickey and Oswalds mouths aren't black. Makes it really difficult to tell their expressions when the inside of their mouths are just the same color as their face.
I love the visuals as well as the high quality animation and even reanimation for a lot of the characters, and the lighting is so soooo much better, but I think the only critic that I have is that the Mickey and Oswald models don’t have like, a black part in their mouth
Shows you the power of memory - the PS5 graphics is how I remember the game looking on the Wii, despite the fact we're seeing a clear difference straight from the Wii. Funny how your memory messes with you.
While I really like how the original looked, this remake takes the idea of twisting what was once beautiful into something darker quite a bit closer to heart. It's colorful and vibrant, but in twisted shapes and shadows, darker without losing saturation. Kinda like an early Tim Burton movie.
Anyone with two eyes can see the new one looks flat, the original has a mood to it, both in its shadows and its details, is better framed and less cluttered as well.
For as great as the gameplay improvements in Rebrushed are so far, it really is a crime that the essence of the original game's art direction was almost completely lost in this new release. A common complaint of the original is that it was too dark, and while that is a valid complaint, especially in a platformer, i feel like they tried too hard to overcorrect it, and in doing so drained a lot of the mood and atmosphere. This also seems to have the issue most remasters and remakes have of worse lighting and greatly washed out colors. It's also jarring seeing them keep the same 2D cutscenes that were animated by Powerhouse Inc. Id hope the animators from that studio got some kind of residual from the reuse, but i understand thats unfortunately not how this business works. While i admire the work that went into this remake, i feel it wouldve been better to simply take the original game and add the gameplay improvements there if possible. Would've been great both in terms of artistic preservation and as a good cost cutting measure. Aw well, at the end of the day the average gamer's not gonna care about that and focus more on the gameplay improvements, which as said before are greatly appreciated. Im gonna stop rambling now and get back to watching Columbo, great show.
I am HARSHLY missing how the remake's colors are more "washed out". I don't get it, it's far more colorful. Nor the worse lighting thing. At least looking at it at first, I don't think the lighting is "worse", whatever that means - either the lighting was made unnaturally dark in the original or they just added more light decorations in the remake
the average gamer is what age? kids? young adults? Artists knew how to create a direction for the game back when it was first created, this is not longer a piece of art because is obvious it was just ticking checkboxes until the game got completed, a product to be consumed as you can always go back to the original. Any adult with an eye would see the difference, any kid might not, money talks but it shouldn't.
One of my nitpicks about this, after playing the demo, is how they didn't keep the cartoon drawing of mickey for the health ui. Another thing I noticed during the guardians tutorial cutscene, they still kept Mickey doing the motion you do on the Wii instead. I don't think they'll change it since it's a small detail and the fact that it is made in a 2D animation and not 3D making it a bit harder to add major changes, but one thing I feel they should have done in this is mickey doing the movements while holding his brush instead of, well nothing.
I’m seeing a ton of changes that they made. Some are fine, like changing the table that Mickey is strapped to, but then why get rid of the chalk board behind the mad scientist that shows his plan to take Mickeys heart? Theres little details that they edited or switched out that seem unnecessary
I would say some things were made a little worse, but a lot of things were made a lot better. It's interesting that a lot of textures look like more realistic materials, yet they seem to have lost a lot of their gritty texture. Feels odd to say that a clearly lower resolution texture feels mmore detailed. But the really good lighting, and some of the asset redesigns are so much better. The door being the elephant that really hits that Small World aesthetic was, in my opinion, a BIG improvement, for example.
there is an example of "lower resolution textures having more details than newer high res ones" and its things like patterns, scratches, roughness, art, being missing in disgaea PC's "new" map textures
I dunno. I like both. The OG has a very distinct artstyle that didnt need that much rework. But that doesnt mean that the new one is ugly. Its just different. Would be cool to switch both artstyles on the fly like so many remasters and remakes did
The music in the intro and on the scene after the side scroller level were removed by youtube due to a copyright claim.

Mechon look like shiny toys instead of scary killer robots.
bro what? man just turn down your gamma level if you want it to be dark. and just say that you want bad hardware limitations
The reason is because it's no longer wii-era rendering, meaning they can afford a much higher poly count.
They did a great job. Both offer different styles and it’s nice to see they tried something different when remaking it.
Are we gonna get Epic Mickey 2 after this?
As someone who played this game when it launched, the remaster is SOOOO well done! Yes, the lighting is odd, but you can fix that in the settings. Im not used to the controller yet, but in time itll be like picking up a wiimote again!
This is a great example of the remaster looking how you remember the old game
I haven’t been paying too much attention to this rerelease, and started playing it today. I was wondering why it only felt vaguely familiar, but I guess this is why! They updated a lot of details! I loved this game, so it’s really cool to play it again after all these years 😊
this is how you remaster a game
I swear every remake that's made all anyone complains about is the lighting. Like, no shit lighting is a huge reason why games look so good now. Of course, they are gonna use it. Thank god for personal settings, but I ig everyone forgets that
This game NEVER looked any better in HD and 4K!!
They fixed the murky environment and brightened up the color palette. This is a big win.
Strange, of all the prop changes just immediately visible.
For some reason, the machine's audio was missing in the Switch demo, along with the sounds of the Gremlin's warping.
Ah. Never got to play the demo version in my Switch, because it drifts. But I don’t own Mario Kart 8 Deluxe…
The art style absolutely holds up, but anyone who says the original controls and camera are better havent played it since they were kids.
While I think the original is more nostalgic, the rebrush definitely still looks like great fun
This game was one of my favorites when I was a kid. I even got the sequel game
Hmmm, can't tell if this is a remake or a remaster. Could be either. Was this game rebuilt from the ground up (remake), or did they just build and retexture on top of the original code (remaster)?
Any one else notice audio errors at the beginning of this demo with the mad doctors killer machine thing?
Amazing considering both versions are three tech generations apart.
I don't get the complaints. Would people rather like it be stuck on a console with Tacky controls?
I played the Demo on my
Xbox Series X and it's amazing that I'm going to buy it when it comes out. 🤩
Take from someone who's never played this game.
Part way through I noticed I was naturally staring at the new version way more. Every time I glance at the left I'd kinda shudder and look back to the right lol
The new version has stronger lighting so the eye is naturally drawn to it
Epic mickey 🤝 Lolipop chainsaw
Had the best remastered versions from de 2024
This makes the Wii version not look so bad for such an older game but I played the demo for rebrush. It was really nice.
Is this wii version comparison emulated? It looks pretty high resolution at least on my phone lol
Looks alright visually, some of that tone is lost though for sure. There are oddly a couple of scenes where the Wii one flat out looks better artistically. I also really do not like Oswalds new model, something about the mouth.
Are these real time cutscenes? I thought the Wii was fmv but i could be wrong
Now thats a remaster
The highly detailed attractions look stunning!!!🤩🤩🤩
Gamers when it looks different:
Why did they have to change some of the sounds?
Epic Mickey done got the SpongeBob rehydrated treatment
I'm confused. Is the remake based on the first game? Or the second? Or both?? Because I thought that oswald only appeared in the second game?
It's a remake of the first game, and Oswald was also in that game as well.
How come David Errigo Jr. not voicing Oswald in this game?
He was always voiced by Frank Welker in the first game.
Cause this isn’t the second game.
@a17yearoldonyoutubeluigi I thought Frank Welker was Oswald in 2? Was it David? I met him at a con back in May, he was pretty cool
@@LeopoldLitchensteinI was Frank.
David Errigo Jr. Is from that new racing game
@@CosmicSponge2004 Ah ok
This is looking so good!!! I always wanted to play this game, so it’s an easy Day 1 purchase for me!
IT'S ON THE PS5?! HOW IS EVERYONE BORN WITH THIS KNOWLEDGE?!
Only thing I don't like is how the inside of Mickey and Oswalds mouths aren't black. Makes it really difficult to tell their expressions when the inside of their mouths are just the same color as their face.
Yeah, that's the major thing that stands out to me in the comparison. Weird choice.
I love the visuals as well as the high quality animation and even reanimation for a lot of the characters, and the lighting is so soooo much better, but I think the only critic that I have is that the Mickey and Oswald models don’t have like, a black part in their mouth
The actual game // The game as I remembered it
I love absurd comparisons
I definitely love how the new art style makes the game more Macob and dark, it’s like they got Tim Burton to help with this game
Shows you the power of memory - the PS5 graphics is how I remember the game looking on the Wii, despite the fact we're seeing a clear difference straight from the Wii. Funny how your memory messes with you.
What the hell are people talking about what charm? The Wii looks terrible you’re blinded by nostalgia
Idk bro, bro. i guess the dark lighting made it more "darker." idk bro, people are blinded by Nostalgia
Yiep
While I really like how the original looked, this remake takes the idea of twisting what was once beautiful into something darker quite a bit closer to heart. It's colorful and vibrant, but in twisted shapes and shadows, darker without losing saturation. Kinda like an early Tim Burton movie.
@Mike14264 this is a beautiful way to describe it
Anyone with two eyes can see the new one looks flat, the original has a mood to it, both in its shadows and its details, is better framed and less cluttered as well.
Now we need epic mickey 2 remastered
I rented this game for the Wii when I was a kid, never finished it since I had to return it lol
I guess it's called a Remake and not a Remaster which is why there's a lot of things added, removed and redesigned instead of being higher quality.
I can't wait for this game
Damn they went all in for this one
I hope they can still port the original to modern consoles
They removed the Wiimote from Gus' explanation 😭
A big difference for sure, but what struck me most is how good the Wii version is!
