    Some knowledge bits from the video
    - piercing on a trigger spell reduces a payloads charges only once, but will cast it on every trigger
    - add trigger negates the projectiles mana cost
    - add trigger negates any projectile modifier mana cost, but not effects
    - add trigger can loop into itself with a multicast

    • @eagames456
      @eagames456 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not quite on the first one. Any projectile will take one charge from the payload on casting. Whatever happens after the spell leaves the wand does not have an effect on the charges of the wand.

    As far as I understand, here's what happens when you shoot.
    It can explain why you only spend 10 mana and why bouncing ball is casted twice.
    Basically, add trigger does not add the manacost from the modified spell to the total, which leads to manacost of 10. And it also does not mark modified spells as used, which allows Double Cast to wrap and use them again
    Step by step it looks like this:
    1. Double cast is triggered
    2. Double cast looks for an unused spell and finds Add trigger
    3. Add trigger looks for a spell to modify and finds Bouncing ball
    4. Bouncing ball gets amplified with modifiers on the left increasing the manacost
    5. This is where shit goes weird. After inner spell is composed, Add trigger modifies it and REPLACES the manacost and THE WRAPPED SPELL ITSELF.
    6. Add trigger gets amplified with modifiers on the left increasing the manacost (that was reset to 10)
    7. Add trigger is fired as a spell and marked as used. Bouncing ball is still considered unused, because Add trigger replaced it on step 5.
    8. Now the Double Cast looks for the second spell to cast. It finds nothing, so it wraps to the start and tries again.
    Double cast - used.
    Add trigger - used.
    Bouncing ball - UNUSED (read step 7)
    9. Bouncing ball gets amplified with modifiers, released and marked as used
    10. DONE

    Last night I had a mana positive wand with 6 slots and "always cast homing". Around 100 max mana and 250 mana charge speed. It also had decent timers of Around .15 delay and .3 recharge.
    The kicker is I could not find a chainsaw. I went everywhere. I went to the vault, fungal caves, even the Alchemy lab by the mines. But I found luminous drill, recharge, and add mana. So, I used double spell, recharge, add mana, double spell, luminous bolt, spark bolt with trigger, then chain bolt.
    It went brrt around corners and killed everything. My perks were kinda sad though. I had permanent shield, perk lottery, fast levitation, edit anywhere, and electric immune. Perk lottery never paid off even though I got it 2nd. I ended up almost dying in the vault, leaving to grab the heal from the dark cave, going back, and then dying anyway to a random explosion. Was a really good run. First time killing Scott and going to the Alchemy lab.
    Edit: i could put concentrated light on it instead and then i had a jetpack. So i had a digging, attack, and mobility wand all wrapped into one.

      If you kill the High Alchemist boss, there's a chance of him dropping wand refresh. If you do get that, and use it, you unlock all the Trigger Grandmaster spells. I'm not too sure about the 2x though. You might need to kill him to get it unlocked. I for one didn't see it until I killed the Grandmaster, but all of the others I did unlock that way. I thought it was a glitch at first.

    Remember: with add trigger, you are making something that doesn’t normally have a trigger suddenly have one. In addition with eating a bunch of mana costs, one fun thing is that if you put a projectile or static projectile after the [add trigger -> modifiers -> bouncing burst], any time the bouncing burst makes contact with an enemy or hits something to set off the trigger, you will trigger the next actual spell after the bouncing burst. IE a chainsaw, you’ll start triggering chainsaws once the bouncing burst makes contact. It looks like [add trigger -> modifiers -> bouncing burst -> chainsaw].
    So in theory, [add trigger -> modifiers -> bouncing burst -> mu -> bouncing burst) would make it so whenever the first bouncing burst comes in contact with an enemy, it’ll set off another bouncing burst with all previous modifiers on it too. Piercing would be necessary so the projectile doesn’t disappear immediately, but it’s liable to kill you.
    And finally, if you somehow properly incorporate in a wand refresh into there, it’ll do some dumb stuff. I don’t know how but we’ll get there (eventually).

    I'm mostly a Borderlands player, and I started getting lots of Noita videos recommended to me. The game seems interesting enough that I put the game on my wishlist.
    In Borderlands games, there's a concept called "double dipping", where certain skills set the base damage of one of your attacks to be equal to the damage of a previous attack you hit with, but then the new attack goes through the entire damage formula again, so if there was a bonus to, say, elemental damage, and the 1st hit was considered to be elemental damage, and the 2nd hit that is based on the 1st hit's damage is 𝑎𝑙𝑠𝑜 considered to be elemental damage, then all of your elemental damage bonuses will be applied twice, effectively 𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 the damage bonus. A +20% bonus would become +44% (1.2^2); a +50% bonus would become +125% (1.5^2), etc.
    Now, what I want to ask is: is Double Spell 𝑑𝑜𝑢𝑏𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔 the effects of those modifiers here, or is it 𝒔𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 them? Because the jump from around 250 damage to around 13000 looks like the latter, to me, and my Borderlands brain is tickled by the idea.

    • @DunkOrSlam
      @DunkOrSlam  ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Double spell simply means that the next two spells after it are cast at the same time. So normally if you had 3 projectile spells on a wand. Each time your wand fired it would fire a single projectile. So first shot spell 1, second shot spell 2, and third shot spell 3. Well a double spell would make it where the first shot would fire off both spell 1 and 2 at the same time. This can lead to wild interactions because some traits of spells will be shared with other projectiles fired at the same time. So if spell 1 has a chance to critical hit enemies and spell 2 doesn’t, when they are fired at the same time now spell 2 also inherits that critical chance from spell 1. Hopefully that made some sense

    • @Hextator
      @Hextator ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I'm coming back here after acquiring the game (yay!) and playing it for a while, and I've made enough wands that take advantage of spell wrapping to know that the way that Double Spell is wrapping back into the Add Trigger, which is already part of the same spell block, is 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 weird. I actually have an Add Trigger in my inventory in my current run, too, so I'm looking forward to doing some wacky stuff with it.
      Over a month ago, when I made my original comment, I thought the Bouncing Burst's damage was appearing to be exponentially higher because, with the modifiers being wrapped into and reused, their effects were 𝑚𝑢𝑙𝑡𝑖𝑝𝑙𝑦𝑖𝑛𝑔 together, squaring the strength of their effects to the projectile's starting and ending speeds. Now, though, it seems more like it's just doubling those values as expected, but because of the spell's hidden bonus clearly coming from some sort of exponential function - a very steep one, at that - a "small" change of doubling the speed "delta" results in a noticeably exponential damage increase. So it's not double dipping in the Borderlands sense, where a damage bonus gets reused and, thus, multiplied with itself, but rather, it's just increasing a number that happens to be the input to an exponential function. This is arguably much more powerful than what you can do in Borderlands, though, and having seen people fighting NG+28 33 orb Kolmi, I think this game's character power growth potential might exceed even that of Borderlands.
      Your videos about wrapping were actually the ones that taught me the concept, and I picked up my first win within 24 hours of playing the game by using that knowledge. I would even go so far as saying that TH-cam recommending your videos (and those of FuryForged) is why I even own Noita. I've had a mod for Jet Force Gemini planned for the past few years (that I unfortunately haven't been motivated to work on lately) that involved implementing in-game weapon building similar to how Noita's wand system works, and now, having actually discovered Noita, I've gained a ton of inspiration for the mod, some of which could potentially be worth carrying over into a more original work. Noita's a very inspiring game.

    Just to clarify, Add Trigger doesn't actually 'create a new projectile that naturally has X', it just casts all the modifiers and then the projectile but doesn't discard them correctly (usually casted spells go into the 'hand', indicating they have been casted, but Add Trigger puts them in the 'discard', allowing for the multicast to wrap the wand, taking everything from the discard and putting it back in the deck).

    If you get lucky and can grab the perk for extra bounces this could get really fun. If you haven't done it, that perk makes the luminous beam a projectile with a rather high velocity. With homing it will straight up burrow through any terrain to kill its target, penetrate that target and keep going, with no need for a penetration mod. It also has a really high cast reduction built in. I just had one in a run with extra damage on it and an insane RoF and it did serious work. The fact that you can kill them through the terrain is a great boon to defense

    I think I understand what;'s happening here, at least half of it.
    The double spell casts the trigger (which merges the modifiers and projectile into it), then the double spell wraps around and sees that the modifiers are not in the cast state yet, so it adds them. Since the entire block gets the effects of all modifiers in it, regardless of order, the projectile which already has the modifiers gets them added again.
    The difference between this and a normal wand wrap seems to be a specific effect of the add trigger spell. It seems like an add trigger eats itself and the projectile when wrapping, but leaves the modifers.
    ...Unless it casts two bouncing bursts with triggers and double modifiers. Then something even stranger is going on.

    • @thedudeamongmengs2051
      @thedudeamongmengs2051 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it casts one bouncing burst with trigger, the double spell wraps around and only casts the modifiers, when the trigger bouncing burst spell ends, it triggers two bouncing bursts with double modifiers and no triggers. At least that's what it looked like to me

    Killing Master of Masters is not the only way of unlocking the "Add Trigger" btw. There is a chance that the High Alchemist will drop a "Wand Refresh" spell, and it will automatically unlock all the MoM spells too. Alchemist cannot drop the trigger though, so the best bet for getting one of those after you unlock it are sky/hell shops, if you don't want to deal with MoM.

    Does there exist a Wand Spell Grammar (WSG) that parses the set of spells bound to an arbitrary wand that can replicate what Noita executes? Some of these constructions shown here look like loops and function invocation Trigger(...args, Base, T) for example. If such a grammar exists I think we could construct a separate playground to at least explain any given set of wands/stats/spells.

  • @washingtonirving8240
    @washingtonirving8240 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I get it!! For those who are confused, think of the wand as a deck of cards. Each spell is a card, and the current cast is your hand.
    When you click, the wand draws 1 card from the deck. It draws double cast, which draws 2 more cards.
    First, double spell draws the Add Trigger.
    Add trigger looks through the deck in order until it finds a projectile, adding the effects (but not the mana costs!) of every spell it sees to itself and then discarding them. (Then looks at every spell after that projectile until it finds another projectile, adds their effects to the trigger's payload, and discards them too, but that isn't relevant here because there's nothing after the first projectile in this wand).
    In this case, Add Trigger sees Accelerating Shot, Heavy Shot, Rotate Towards Foes, and Bouncing Burst, so it gains the effect of those spells. It tries to find a second projectile to make into the payload, but the deck is empty, so it doesn't make a payload in the first place.
    To review: The hand currently contains Double Spell (which has drawn once and is about to try to draw again), and Add Trigger (with the effects of Accelerating Shot, Heavy Shot, Rotate Towards Foes, and Bouncing Burst). The deck is empty. The discard pile contains Accelerating Shot, Heavy Shot, Rotate Towards Foes, and Bouncing Burst.
    Now double spell tries to draw a second time, but the deck is empty, so it wraps. Wrapping puts the discard pile into the deck. It draws Accelerating Shot, Heavy Shot, Rotate Towards Foes, and Bouncing Burst, and adds all of them to the hand.
    Finally, there's no more draw, so the cast ends and everything in the hand is fired. The result is 2 Bouncing Burst projectiles, each of which has the effects of 2, Accelerating Shot, 2 Heavy Shot, and 2 Rotate Towards Foes.

    One thing to mention here:
    I think modifiers which refer to other modifiers dont work inside an add trigger chain. If you try for example to multiply a always crit on x or a spells to power modifier with divide by x or greek letter spells, you have to place them before the add trigger spell, otherwise the modifiers wont be multiplied and only cast once. At least thats my impession.
    The Wiki says the same: Every spell of type "other" after a add trigger is simply discarded.
