When I tell you every time I see THIS fight, I lose my mind every time, I LOSE MY MIND. This brittle looking old man being an absolute monster in battle is just so jarring to see even though it's actually pretty common in fiction lol
The mural at the end of the episode depicts Mandalorians fighting jedi, as the Mandalorians used to have a very large empire that clashed with the jedi on numerous occasions. That is where their hatred of jedi stems, and back then the jedi were at the height of their power, with many of them being veterans of countless batttles vs sith and Mandalorians alike.
Its also a reference to the picture Guernica, an anti-war painting about the downfall of peace (here with Satine dying) and the evil of war raining down as Mandalore's society collapses.
In this time the apprentice who replaced Darth Maul was Dooku a.k.a Darth Tyranus The art on the wall depicted the ancient war between Mandolorians and Jedi in the time of the Old Republic
Yeah Dooku technically replaced Maul, but Sidious was referring to Anakin, not that he’d ever admit that though. Dooku was always just a pawn for Papa Palpy, but Maul was his original plan to carry on the Sith legacy before Anakin was discovered
It never gets old watching Palpatine duel. He's a menace, a feral cat playing with his food. He could easily sweep his opponents with force ability but chooses the blades for the lolz.
This saga honestly has early Game Of Thrones seasons level writing! The way Maul and Deathwatch manipulate the people of Mandalore to turn against Duchess Satine and overthrow her, Maul dueling Pre Visla and winning the loyalty of most of Deathwatch, Maul murdering Satine in front of Obi-Wan😢, Bo-Katan rescuing Kenobi and turning her back on Deathwatch. And as if ALL OF THAT WASN’T ENOUGH, Darth Sidious himself drops by and ABSOLUTELY DESTROYS both Maul and Savage in one of the best and most terrifying fight scenes I’ve ever seen. GOOD GOD Dave Filoni and George Lucas!!! Most shows would drag this much plot over an entire season but you did it in a just couple of episodes!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Also I personally believe that even though Maul had attained complete dominance over Mandalore and the criminal underworld he would’ve still gone back to serving as Palpatine’s apprentice. You saw how he immediately kneeled before Sidious.
just a reminder maul and savage are "zabraks" they normally don't bleed green fog but since both maul and savage were infused with talzin's magic their bodies produce green vapor when being damaged (and yes the mechanic legs of maul were somehow part of his body since he also got them with magic but later replaced by normal mechanic legs)
Vader's theme is also referred to as just the Imperial March. It's played when the emperor entered the scene in RotJ too. "I sense a presence. A presence I haven't felt since..." Vader reference. It was sad knowing what Savage was deep down. He was a normal person, but that nightsister magic corrupted him. :(
The mural depicts the struggle between Mandalorians and Jedi. Its execution for the show was heavily inspired by Pablo Picasso's "Massacre in Korea" from 1951.
The lawless imo a top 5 episode of clone wars satines death is honestly heartbreaking she and padme are some of the few senators that just want peace. It’s really at this moment that you realise how powerful palpatine is he didn’t even need his lightsabers to win that fight he’s just toying with them that’s the 3rd best fight in the show for me
Okay so the next part of Maul’s story is technically missing from the show thanks to the cancellation. Before the show was revived, it was made into a comic, Son of Dathomir. You could find and read it or watch some fan made videos that put voice acting and sound effects to the images. Ideally you check that out between S6 and 7. _Revival_ So Revival wasn’t supposed to be the S5 premier, but after the overwhelming positive response to Maul’s return at the end of S4, they made it the premier. Those enhanced with nightsister magick do leak that magick when injured _Eminence_ Black Sun is a huge carry over from Legends. There was a story set during the original trilogy where their leader tried to seduce Leia, and got kneed in the groin for it 😂 Yeah, the gamorreans (pig man guards) aren’t given the best treatment in this 😂. Even their proportions are pretty exagerrated if you look up their live action appearances. _Shades of Reason_ Oh my god, something Vizsla said is tragically hilarious after certain things. Can’t talk about it, spoilers. _The Lawless_ Ian Abercrombie was Palpatine’s VA. He passed away during the production of S5. He’s replaced by Tim Curry. There was one line in Revival. It’s much more obvious in the Ahsoka arc. Also for S6 with the exception of some episodes that Ian did record for because they were originally for S5. Actually, Palptine’s final lines telling Maul he has other uses for him are done by Tim Curry Yes, those kids are from the Ahsoka academy arc The ship Obi comes in, the Twilight, first appeared in the movie. It was abandoned and Ani and Ahsoka commandeered it. After the bane/force baby arc, it just disappeared. And then it showed up here for its destruction. That technically isn’t the “Vader Theme.” It’s the Imperial March, and it accompanies Vader a lot, so it’s percieved as “Vader’s Theme” The replacement Palpatine was talking about was Dooku That mural art was a depiction of the old Madalorian-Jedi War
1:08:57 I love this score, it’s my absolute favourite out of all of Star Wars and this franchise has amazing scores/ themes it’s so beautiful , the building at 1:09:22 just amazing
The Lawless has got to be my favourite episode of the entire show. Maul brutally killing Satine in front of Obi-Wan and then Sidious dealing with Maul and Savage in style. Also the Picasso inspired mural is depicting the Mandalorian-Jedi Wars from thousands of years ago which resulted in most of the surface of Mandalore becoming inhospitable hence why they live in giant domed cities.
46:05 i love that line. Goes back to the age old idea of history is written by the victors. Many of the ancient wars we look at today might have went completely differently and we’ll never rlly know bc the winners write the story
1:15:53 This storyline is continued in the "Son of Dathomir" comic revolving around mostly Maul. It originally was supposed to be an arc in this show but sadly got cancelled alongside 9 other unfinished clone wars arcs by Disney taking over Star Wars in 2013, when they sadly decided to cancel everything George Lucas (and many others, like all of Star Wars "Legends" for instance) was developing at the time, video games and shows alike.
Its sad that people don't remember the Twilight. As people have said in the comments the next arc surrounding Maul was cancelled as was the rest of the show when Disney bought SW. However they made it into a comic, here is an audio comic version of it, the story is set before S7. And they wanted to make it an arc in S7, as its pretty important and would've been one of the best arcs. But they were denied, so yah. th-cam.com/video/HCDcloyH_I4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=GSCiZJ3ZjQE7nqIX
1:15:00 Maul was replaced with Dooku There is a process to make a lightsaber red. You must pour all your hate into the crystal to make it bleed. When healed with the lightside, they become white
The Lawless is the single best episode of the clone wars.. fast moving and has everything in it.. doesn't get much better than that.. it's definitely to stand out as the single best episode...
the lawless is one of the best pieces of star wars content ever made and 1:11:46 is imo one of the greatest cinematic shots ever gives me chills everytime
THE LAWLESS: Maul hits Kenobi where it hurts but attracts some unwanted attention of his own. IN MEMORIAM: IAN ABERCROMBIE, who voiced Palpatine, passed after this episode and was replaced by the masterful TIM CURRY. The Clovis Trilogy of Season 6 features the last of Abercrombie's vocal performance as it was scheduled to air after the Onderon Arc but was set aside in favor of the Youngling Arc. The RETURN of the Academy kids! KORKIE KRYZE, Satine's nephew, and his classmates AMIS, LAGOS and SONIEE are all grown up and they break the Duchess out of prison! Korkie has the full head of hair, Amis has the shaved head, Lagos is the blonde girl and Soniee is the brunette. OMID ABTAHI of "American Gods", "The Mandalorian", "Fear the Walking Dead", "Homeland" and "Better Call Saul" again voices AMIS. The Academy quartet are aided by BO-KATAN who seems to be on familiar terms with Satine. BO-KATAN is again voiced by KATEE SACKHOFF of "Battlestar Galactica" and "Longmire". The DEATH WATCH who pledged themselves to Maul have painted their armor RED. Those who have affixed a ring of horns to their helmets mimicking Zabrak physiology are the elite MANDALORIAN SUPER COMMANDOS! The escape attempt FAILS but Satine sends a plea for help off-world to OBI-WAN KENOBI! The Jedi Council refuse to intervene because Mandalore is neutral and the coup is an INTERNAL AFFAIR. Prime Minister ALMEC reports the recapture of Satine to Savage and Maul who is delighted by the trap he has baited for Kenobi. MAUL is again voiced by SAM WITWER and SAVAGE OPRESS is again voiced by CLANCY BROWN. OBI-WAN KENOBI arrives in Anakin's old jalopy 'The Twilight' which he picked up on Teth in the "Clone Wars" movie and which was last seen in "Children of the Force" (Season 2, Episode 3)! He is disguised in RAKO HARDEEN's gear from the Undercover Arc of Season 4. A SECOND BREAK-OUT fails and 'The Twilight' is DESTROYED! SATINE suggests contacting her sister for aid. MAUL tries to goad Kenobi but Kenobi's attempt to relate to Maul goads the Sith instead! The DEATH of Duchess SATINE KRYZE! Maul runs her through with the DARKSABER! SATINE declares her undying love for Kenobi with her last breath. MAUL wanted Kenobi to SUFFER as he did and he has finally succeeded! "Let him drown in his misery." A RIPPLE REVERBERATES through the Force and PALPATINE senses it on Coruscant! BO-KATAN and her loyalists rescue Kenobi and get him off-world amid a full-scale insurrection! I love the small ENERGY SHIELDS the Mandalorians emit from their vambraces! The REVELATION that SATINE's SISTER is BO-KATAN KRYZE! The second Mandalorian CIVIL WAR has begun! Amid the turmoil, a shuttle lands and DARTH SIDIOUS disembarks Force-strangling his way to the palace. MAUL senses his former Master and defers to him claiming his efforts are for Sidious' benefit to demonstrate his worthiness. SIDIOUS brooks no rivals and brandishes TWO LIGHTSABERS! This is one of the great lightsaber duels of the series as SIDIOUS battles both MAUL and SAVAGE OPRESS! The DEATH of SAVAGE OPRESS with a dual back-handed run-through! As the NIGHTSISTER MAGICKS DISSIPATE from Savage, he apologizes to Maul for his unworthiness and dies as the man he once was. SIDIOUS reminds Maul of the RULE OF TWO noting that he has been replaced! MAUL rages and attacks Sidious with both the DARKSABER and his own lightsaber! SIDIOUS is so powerful that he disengages from Maul to sheathe one of his sabers and FORCE-PUMMELS him instead! MAUL LOSES the DARKSABER on the plaza as he's tossed about! Defeated and stripped of his pride, he crawls from his Master PLEADING for MERCY! Say what you will about VIZSLA but he went out like a boss. SIDIOUS blasts him with FORCE-LIGHTNING sadistically cackling that his erstwhile protege has not yet outlived his usefulness.... To find out what Sidious means and what happens next, see the SON OF DATHOMIR motion comic after the Yoda Arc and before Season 7! The SHADOW COLLECTIVE ARC is one of the series' most extraordinary delivering non-stop drama, action and surprises! Just imagine all this in live-action!
If you ever want more of Hondo Ohnaka, he is basically a copy of pirate Don Karnage (also played by Jim Cummings) from the 1990s Disney cartoon TaleSpin.
46:04 I love that line so much. So brilliant. So, it occurred to me that Korkie could be a Kenobi in my very first watch of the Clone Wars, as it was airing. I remember searching the internet to see if anyone else thought so and found nothing, despite the fact that Dave Filoni gave an interview right after this episode where he hinted at it, and he directly said that Korkie isn't the son of Bo-Katan. He said there was another sibling but he has never said anything about this mystery sibling, ever. This sibling does not appear in ANY Star Wars media anywhere on the timeline, leading most of us to think he/she doesn't exist. Then I searched again a few years later when we got the chronological order, and suddenly everyone was saying it. The Lawless is the only episode that has both Korkie and Obi-Wan, but they conspicuously do not appear on screen together.
I got so excited when you briefly mentioned Maul possibly teaming with the Jedi to defeat Palpatine! It could never really happen but that 1 / bajillion chance that Obi and Maul set aside their differences and accept each other - I believe they could defeat Sheev!
I love your channel #professor !! It always seems like were watching the teacher break it down for us...like seeing the light....and you watch the show more deeply...you study the nuances and memorize! Thank you...thank you...for all the hard work you do behind the scenes... #professor !!
Imon I subscribed to your channel because you're a deep thinker and George has always been a deep thinker and its in all his SW content especially TCW. Greed/The Love of Money is the root of all evil not the money. The reason SW content reminds you of other movies and shows is because George changed movie making in 1977 with The New Hope and George encouraged movie makers to borrow many of his ideas because he wanted to change the movie making industry.
Tbf George "borrowed" many ideas from other forms of media, books and history and threw them in all together; and somehow it worked such that 47 years on, his franchise is still as popular as ever.
the graffiti on the wall when Maul and Sidious fought depicted the war between Mandalorians and the Jedi many moons ago, the same war that turned the surface of Mandalore into uninhabitable wasteland, which is why the cities are in those white domes
You should know this was Maul last appearance in Clone Wars series we never find out what happened to him because Clone Wars was cancelled. But we got our answer in Star Wars canon comics after defeating Maul we see that Sidious takes him to a Separatist prison where Count Dooku tortures him for information about the Shadow Collective. I don't want to go into too much spoilers what happens in the comics I recommend you read them. Fastforward Disney bought Lucasfilm and years of fans asking for Clone Wars Season 7 to conclude the series fans got their wish Maul returns to the series and it was masterpiece. Palpatine saying you have been replaced he means by Dooku but of course Maul doesn't know he actually means Anakin is the one being groomed to be his true sith apprentince the rule two one master one apprentince only two no more no less.
The Lawless is one of the single greatest episodes of this show. Bo-Katan’s hero arc starts, Satine is overthrown and murdered in front of Obi-Wan, and Darth Sidious fights, kills Savage and overthrows Maul all is one episode.
You should definitely check out Dudufilms' Star Wars tributes/edits, especially Anakin Skywalker-The Hero With No Fear and We Are What You Made Us. There are plenty of other channels that edit brilliant tributes to characters within Star Wars and they are rarely longer than seven minutes so you could have a lot of content for reaction videos that are fan-made and don't require quite so much stress to record. Negligible chances of strikes, too; save maybe muting ten seconds worth of music on one or two. I've enjoyed your journey into the fandom, Miss. Snow.
no, because Dooku is his apprentice , why the emperor wants Maul is never covered in the clone wars, it's a four-part comic they made , in short, he wants Maul for his mother , yes she is his biological mother.. you have to read the comic I'm not gonna say anything more... there's an audio comic on TH-cam they do voice acting and everything for free,, there are four parts to it you can watch it when you're done with season six
53:56 also, it seems like there is no motivation anymore. That may increase in more homeless people or worse 1:12:46 here is is when I realized Palpatine is a sick secret box indeed. The painting next to them, is a eeird representation of another famous painting (Guernica) . You'll understand when you see it
#StarWars bee keeping it real! Sometimes people are so sleep...comfortable...passive...That they fall for anything! I love how real the show keeps it! If you don't fight daily...you loose! Cause the #enemyneversleeps #stayvigilant
I enjoyed your reaction to this episode of the clone wars Lawless My favorite also the part where the emperor says you have been replaced that means he has count Dooku But yes of course he will have anakin as his new apprentice in Future but not at this time but not right now because he has Dooku
Maul and Savage may be powerful, but Obi-Wan is *the best* defensive duelist of his era, a master of Soresu, Form III of lightsaber combat. He's perfectly situated for staying alive in a duel against physically stronger opponents like Maul or Savage, and it's why he's able to beat Anakin in Revenge of the Sith. Regarding Maul and Savage appearing to bleed green mist - that's not their blood, but the Nightsister Dark Magick that empowered Savage and restored Maul's strength leeching its way out of their wounds. That's why when Palpatine/Darth Sidious kills Savage, Savage shrinks back into his original, non-muscular form. You're totally right that Maul and Savage are characters we can kind of root for in a way. They're definitely evil, but nowhere near as much as Palpatine or the other real villains, and Maul has lost and suffered so much that his quest for revenge on Obi-Wan *almost* seems justified, and his quest for revenge on his former master definitely is. That being said, poor Satine, and poor Obi-Wan. Between Obi-Wan's commitment to the Jedi Order and Maul's deadly intervention, they never had a chance, but they still loved each other across the stars. The orc-looking folks who form the Black Sun are a species called Falleen, and alongside the Pykes and the Hutt Clans, the Black Sun is one of the strongest criminal syndicates. The fact that Maul managed to convince all of those syndicates to join up says a lot. And Deathwatch too! The legacy of the Darksaber gains another chapter. Always nice to see Embo and the other bounty hunters again, this time working as bodyguards for the Hutts. Maul's plan here was honestly pretty clever - getting the Mandalorian people to turn on Satine's pacifism makes taking control the simplest matter, and saves them the trouble of having to deal with civil unrest. Good thing Obi-Wan and Bo-Katan had other ideas or he might have gotten away with it, but now Mandalore is headed for an invasion by Republic Forces, which won't be pretty. As someone else has highlighted, the next piece of Maul's story never made it to animation, but exists as a graphic novel called Son of Dathomir - I won't spoil details, but in case you don't have time to read it, it tackles Maul's escape from Sidious' clutches and grapples with his past as a child of mother Talzin before the Sith stole him away, setting him up for the rest of his story. So many good duels in this arc. Adi Gallia and Obi-Wan vs Maul and Savage, Maul vs Pre Viszla, and of course, Darth Sidious vs Maul and Savage. Excellent stuff. Satine's nephew Korkie was indeed one of the kids from the previous Mandalore storyline, and he has the other academy cadets helping him. There's also a popular theory based on his appearance, and on the fact that he refers to both Bo Katan and Satine as aunts but that no reference is made to who the third sibling is, that Korkie is actually secretly Satine's son by Obi-Wan, conceived during their time together all those years ago when Obi-Wan was assigned to protect her. Nothing has ever been confirmed on this matter, though. The Mandalorians are very good at redecorating their armour, and as you saw, the Deathwatch members loyal to Maul quickly redesigned their armour to incorporate some Zabrak-style horns. Also, the replacement apprentice for Maul was Dooku. Anakin was the replacement apprentice for Dooku.
REVIVAL: MAUL sets his sights on the underworld. The RETURN of DARTH MAUL and SAVAGE OPRESS last seen in "Revenge" (Season 4, Episode 22). SAM WITWER again voices Maul and CLANCY BROWN again voices Savage. Before the episode even begins, a TWI'LEK and NIKTO JEDI have been slaughtered! It's kind of touching that brutish Savage suggests an EQUITABLE PARTNERSHIP but Maul shuts that down fast in favor of his SITH INDOCTRINATION which invariably puts the brothers at odds. The Sith way is not to share power but to seize it for oneself! It's almost as if the man Savage ONCE WAS is peeking through the monstrous exterior momentarily. The RETURN of Tholothian Master ADI GALLIA last seen in the Council Chamber while Anakin suggested aiding the Onderonian guerrillas in an advisory capacity in "A War on Two Fronts" earlier this season and last featured prominently escaping Grievous' clutches in "Nomad Droids" (Season 4, Episode 6). She was also seen in live-action in "Phantom Menace" and "Attack of the Clones". The warehouse supervisor with the folksy drawl is a SNIVVIAN voiced by Hondo's JIM CUMMINGS. It doesn't take much to flip JIRO, the mohawked Weequay, and GORU, the hulking Weequay. Naturally, the lone loyalist captain, SABO, gets killed for his integrity. HONDO'S BASE is in ruins after Grievous' assault in the YOUNGLING ARC earlier in the season. The DEATH of Tholothian Master ADI GALLIA! Savage GORES her with his horns before delivering a lightsaber coup de grace! She is replaced on the Council by another Tholothian, STASS ALLIE, who is seen getting blasted on her speeder bike by Commander Neyo during the Order 66 montage in "Revenge of the Sith". HONDO and OBI-WAN back-to-back! One of the better JEDI DUELS of the series in which Obi-Wan impressively stands against both Maul and Savage! Savage's KNEE takes SIX hard kicks before buckling! Adi Gallia delivered the FIRST BLOW and Obi-Wan followed up with FIVE more! SAVAGE LOSES AN ARM! Hondo flips his men back just as easily with the prospect of PLUNDERING MAUL! It must be exhausting for Hondo to keep these guys in line! Lol. Hondo gets the BEST RETORT of the series: "Insolence? We're pirates! We don't even know what that means!" MAUL LOSES A DIGITGRADE LEG and has to ditch his ship! His first attempt at becoming a kingpin ends in abject failure. Naturally, PALPATINE COULD CARE LESS about the Jedi lost or the havoc being caused trivializing it as an internal matter of the Order unrelated to the war because every Jedi eliminated and the more chaos sown feeds right into his grand scheme. The final close-up shows him relishing the distress the Maul WILD CARD brings. The contribution of JIM CUMMINGS' wonderfully rakish performance to this series cannot be emphasized enough! Aside from a brief reappearance in the prelude to "Dark Disciple", the rascal bids farewell to the show here. EMINENCE: MAUL and SAVAGE cut a swath through the galaxy's underworld with the aid of Death Watch! SAM WITWER again voices Maul and CLANCY BROWN again voices Savage. The return of DEATH WATCH last seen in "A Friend in Need" (Season 4, Episode 14). The opening scene of the Mandalorians cutting into the frosted interior of the lifepod is a deliberate homage to the opening scene of "ALIENS" as the salvage crew cuts into the frosted interior of Ripley's lifecraft, the 'Narcissus'. Maul gets outfitted with PLANTIGRADE LEG prosthetics and Savage gets a mechanical arm courtesy of PRE VIZSLA. PRE VIZSLA is again voiced by JON FAVREAU. BO-KATAN is again voiced by KATEE SACKHOFF of "Battlestar Galactica" and "Longmire". With Kenobi as a common enemy, a PACT is made between the Nightbrothers and the Mandalorians. BLACK SUN is a long-established criminal organization from LEGENDS having debuted in the very popular novel "Shadows of the Empire" written by Steve Perry in 1996 as part of a multimedia endeavor that included a comic book adaptation, video game adaptation and merchandising. The novel was set between "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi". BLACK SUN is the chief rival of the Hutt Cartel and is presided over by the FALLEEN. These repto-mammalian humanoids have thick spines, wear their long hair in top-knots and exude powerful pheromones irresistible to the opposite sex. BLACK SUN had their headquarters on MUSTAFAR until Darth Vader made the world his home. The INTRODUCTION of ZITON MOJ, the sole survivor of Maul's negotiation with Black Sun. The PYKE SYNDICATE is the chief trafficker of SPICE, the illegal narcotic of the Star Wars galaxy. The INTRODUCTION of LOM, head of the PYKE SYNDICATE who shrewdly elects to partner with Maul. Notice Lom's kinky FINGER CLAW! The HUTT CARTEL is the oldest and most powerful criminal enterprise in the galaxy controlling a large portion of the Outer Rim regardless of whether the centralized government happens to be a democratic republic or a totalitarian dictatorship. The RETURN of the HUTT COUNCIL last seen assembled in the Ziro Trilogy of Season 3. JABBA, appearing holographically, AROK, MARLO and ORUBA were last seen in "Hunt for Ziro" (Season 3, Episode 9). GORGA, appearing holographically, was last seen in Nal Hutta's Bilbousa Bazaar in "Friends and Enemies" (Season 4, Episode 16). AROK has the stogie, GORGA has the monocle, MARLO has the 'stache and ORUBA has the beret. The Hutts resist and bring out the BOUNTY HUNTERS! They actually force the Nightbrothers to retreat but the Mandalorians soon overwhelm them! Human DENGAR was last seen on Quarzite in "Bounty" (Season 4, Episode 20). Theelin LATTS RAZZI was last seen sharing a drink with Asajj Ventress on Tatooine in "Brothers" (Season 4, Episode 21). Zabrak SUGI was last seen on Tatooine chatting at the bar in "Revenge" (Season 4, Episode 22). Kyuzo EMBO, once again voiced by DAVE FILONI, and his Anooba, MARROK, were last seen on Tatooine sharing a booth with Asajj Ventress in "Revenge" (Season 4, Episode 22). The DEATH of ORUBA, the albino Hutt, in his beret and capelet no less! So much for sartorial dash! The Mandalorian invasion of Jabba's palace on Tatooine makes short work of his Gamorrean, Quarren and Nikto thugs! Wily JABBA plays long games and agrees to Maul's coercive tactics. Maul's SHADOW COLLECTIVE is complete! PRE VIZSLA, however, chafes under Maul's snide command and CONSPIRES WITH BO-KATAN to bail once Mandalore is in Death Watch's grip. SHADES OF REASON: Two Alphas go head-to-head but there can be only ONE TOP DOG! MAUL institutes a FALSE FLAG attack on Sundari led by ZITON MOJ of BLACK SUN, LOM of the PYKE SYNDICATE and SAVAGE OPRESS. SAM WITWER again voices Darth Maul and CLANCY BROWN again voices Savage Opress. PRE VIZSLA swoops in and steals SATINE's thunder as she tries to urge calm. I love how the FICKLE MOB starts chanting Vizsla's name after just a single speech! JON FAVREAU again voices Pre Vizsla. DEATH WATCH saves the day in a series of STAGED CONFRONTATIONS with Vizsla himself taking down Savage! SATINE is arrested and slandered as a fleeing coward by Death Watch! The mob goes wild as the syndicate heads are paraded before them and VIZSLA's EGO gets swept up by a wave of POPULAR ACCLAIM! Vizsla decides it's time to part ways with the Shadow Collective and SEIZES MAUL! Vizsla publicly HUMILIATES Maul but makes the mistake of HONORING THEIR ARRANGEMENT for ensnaring Kenobi. Maul uses his down-time in prison to recruit FRESH TALENT! Former Prime Minister ALMEC doesn't have to be asked twice! I like how Maul and Savage leisurely tour the prison while slaughtering sentries! Maul issues a CHALLENGE FOR LEADERSHIP of Death Watch which Vizsla is obliged to answer! The duel between VIZSLA and MAUL is one of the greatest fights in the series! SITH vs MANDALORIAN! Vizsla uses his entire arsenal but Maul is victorious without resorting to the Force! The DEATH of PRE VIZSLA! Maul beheads him with the DARKSABER and claims OWNERSHIP OF THE BLADE! Vizsla was scum in life but he accepts his death STOICALLY like the warrior he claimed to be. BO-KATAN is appalled! She cries foul and flees with a group of loyalists. KATEE SACKHOFF again voices Bo-Katan. ALMEC is installed as a PUPPET Prime Minister who further maligns SATINE by charging her with the assassination of VIZSLA! Unlike Vizsla, slippery sleaze Almec has no illusions about who is MASTER. MAUL now rules the underworld through his SHADOW COLLECTIVE based out of Sundari on Mandalore. All that remains is REVENGE.
My favourite TCW lightsabre fight in the whole series, the one with Obi-Wan v Maul and Savage in that corridor; they underestimate his genius to their peril as all Sith do. Legend. Oh the sabre fight in Lawless is damn good as well mind haha! On Lawless, I personally prefere Rebels to Clone Wars; however though its a more consistent show, it never reaches the same level as the highest highs Clone Wars got to, and Lawless, ARC Troopers, Old Friends Not Forgotten, Landing At Point Rain; are just utterly insanely good. "are people stupid?" - yes, yes they are. The Mob was always thus which is a statement from the days of the Roman Empire. You guys voted Trump in for example, and may do so again this November; some like to see the world burn as long as they have a front side view at the carnage. The picture in the background is a homage to the Picasso masterpiece, Guernica, an anti-war reference about the downfall of peace (here with Satine) and the evil of war raining down as Mandalore's society collapses.
Your point about shows having a teacher, not just a TV show that shows right v wrong, moral choices, etc. That's a fair point. However, I think having a teacher or a lecturer who tells us what to think about what we're seeing, will truly water it down. It will also effectively turn it into propaganda. Because a teacher will tell us exactly what to think about what's going on. It would be like having someone (an art teacher) telling us how to understand someone else's painting. Art is subjective and a single work of art strikes us differently. And that's how it should be. Otherwise, the art should be simply a written paragraph that makes a specific statement, and that's it. Instead, we draw parallels to our own observations and experiences. In some cases a story reinforces what we already understand. In other cases, it shows us another perpective on a situation that we might not have had. Our minds then do the work to sort it out, and it even gives us substance for discussion with each other. A formal teacher, in the case of children who watch the show, should be their parents. They should be discussing the morality of the show with their children, instead of giving that teaching moment away to someone else.
This arc is incredible, because there are the more beautifull Lightsaber fight of all the show. On EP1, we really see what Obi Wan Kenobi is capable of... 2 vs 1... And he win the fight ! On EP3, Darth Maul versus Pre Vizla is epic. And on EP4... Maul+Savage vs Sidious is the best fight of all show, so intense.... This arc is one of my favorite of all show. So intense But the next arc is my favorite... But also one of the darkest and saddest arcs... The most important arc of this series, the ultimate climax.
There is no scarier villain than Palpatine. Just pure rage. He could have killed Maul and Savage without even using a lightsaber. That battle was simply to entertain himself after such a long journey to Mandalor and to spank his old apprentice.
One of the best arcs! Btw right after you finish Clone Wars, i suggest you to watch Tales of the Jedi (just 6 episodes, basically a Clone Wars spin off) and then Rebels. Just to warn you Rebels is definitely not as “deep” as Clone Wars could be, and sadly it presents a more black and white vision of the SW world (and has a more childish tone especially in the first seasons). You’ll find that Clone Wars vibe again in The Bad Batch (which is a Clone Wars sequels) however i would still suggest u to watch Rebels first 👍
So gonna assume you haven't watched the prequel movies then. Highly recommend you watch them before the end of the series, and Sidious was toying with them from the start. He could have just started frying them with Lightning after he pinned them to the wall at the start but he let them fight him to show his superiority.
In this time the apprentice who replaced Darth Maul was Dooku a.k.a Darth Tyranus
The art on the wall depicted the ancient war between Mandolorians and Jedi in the time of the Old Republic
Tyranus.
Yeah Dooku technically replaced Maul, but Sidious was referring to Anakin, not that he’d ever admit that though. Dooku was always just a pawn for Papa Palpy, but Maul was his original plan to carry on the Sith legacy before Anakin was discovered
Eh Dooku was always temporary, it's reasonable to assume he actually meant Anakin
It never gets old watching Palpatine duel. He's a menace, a feral cat playing with his food. He could easily sweep his opponents with force ability but chooses the blades for the lolz.
Literally this
This saga honestly has early Game Of Thrones seasons level writing!
Most shows would drag this much plot over an entire season but you did it in a just couple of episodes!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Also I personally believe that even though Maul had attained complete dominance over Mandalore and the criminal underworld he would’ve still gone back to serving as Palpatine’s apprentice.
A very important story in these episodes that paves the way for actually quite a lot of future events in the timeline
_Revival_
So Revival wasn’t supposed to be the S5 premier, but after the overwhelming positive response to Maul’s return at the end of S4, they made it the premier.
Those enhanced with nightsister magick do leak that magick when injured
_Eminence_
Black Sun is a huge carry over from Legends. There was a story set during the original trilogy where their leader tried to seduce Leia, and got kneed in the groin for it 😂
Yeah, the gamorreans (pig man guards) aren’t given the best treatment in this 😂. Even their proportions are pretty exagerrated if you look up their live action appearances.
_Shades of Reason_
Oh my god, something Vizsla said is tragically hilarious after certain things. Can’t talk about it, spoilers.
_The Lawless_
Ian Abercrombie was Palpatine’s VA. He passed away during the production of S5. He’s replaced by Tim Curry. There was one line in Revival. It’s much more obvious in the Ahsoka arc. Also for S6 with the exception of some episodes that Ian did record for because they were originally for S5. Actually, Palptine’s final lines telling Maul he has other uses for him are done by Tim Curry
Yes, those kids are from the Ahsoka academy arc
The ship Obi comes in, the Twilight, first appeared in the movie. It was abandoned and Ani and Ahsoka commandeered it. After the bane/force baby arc, it just disappeared. And then it showed up here for its destruction.
That technically isn’t the “Vader Theme.” It’s the Imperial March, and it accompanies Vader a lot, so it’s percieved as “Vader’s Theme”
The replacement Palpatine was talking about was Dooku
That mural art was a depiction of the old Madalorian-Jedi War
Mauls legs were shaped by nightsister magick like metal shaped by a blacksmith. And savage was enhanced by their magic.
Someone probably already told you but Palpatine uses the force to enhance his movement
The episode memorial was for Palpatine's voice actor who died after completing his lines for this episode.
1:08:57 I love this score, it’s my absolute favourite out of all of Star Wars and this franchise has amazing scores/ themes it’s so beautiful , the building at 1:09:22 just amazing
The best way I've heard someone describe fighting palpatine is like it's trying to fight the wind.
And to think this all started with Sidious (aka Palpatine) ordering Dooku to kill Ventress...
1:17:36 I would recommend watching Episode III Revenge of the Sith, in particular, before the final arc of the show.
Id say before s6 tbh, before the 🐐s arc
The Lawless has got to be my favourite episode of the entire show. Maul brutally killing Satine in front of Obi-Wan and then Sidious dealing with Maul and Savage in style. Also the Picasso inspired mural is depicting the Mandalorian-Jedi Wars from thousands of years ago which resulted in most of the surface of Mandalore becoming inhospitable hence why they live in giant domed cities.
The whole point of the mandalorian storyline in "The Clone Wars" was to symbolize the exact same fall of the Republic at a small scale
Good point, and we know from the live stuff that Mandalore never fully recovers. This is where it all started.
1:16:07 it's the ancient War that happened between the Jedi and Mandalore thousands of years before the movies.
The amount of references to the movies scattered through this arc is unbelievably cool
Btw the art is a homage to an actual mural. The one in Lawless was just replaced with jedi and mando.
46:05 i love that line. Goes back to the age old idea of history is written by the victors. Many of the ancient wars we look at today might have went completely differently and we’ll never rlly know bc the winners write the story
The art is Mandorians vs Jedi. But if you look at it? it looks like "Guernica" from pablo picasso
Ah, yes. The Lawless. Also, thank you for going back to arcs.
When Hondo shows up on rebels, it is fabulous
Its sad that people don't remember the Twilight.
As people have said in the comments the next arc surrounding Maul was cancelled as was the rest of the show when Disney bought SW.
However they made it into a comic, here is an audio comic version of it, the story is set before S7. And they wanted to make it an arc in S7, as its pretty important and would've been one of the best arcs. But they were denied, so yah.

1:15:00 Maul was replaced with Dooku
There is a process to make a lightsaber red. You must pour all your hate into the crystal to make it bleed. When healed with the lightside, they become white
Jon Favreau, the voice of Pre Visla
Maul and Savage are villains you just cant fully hate....
"Let him drown in his misery."
A RIPPLE REVERBERATES through the Force and PALPATINE senses it on Coruscant!
51:19 true as long as you know it is supposed to be heated. Weird when it happens on a toilet without that feature
Ian Abercrombie voiced Palpatine / Darth Sideous for most of the Clone Wars episodes before passing away.👍🏾
I love your channel #professor !! It always seems like were watching the teacher break it down for us...like seeing the light....and you watch the show more deeply...you study the nuances and memorize! Thank you...thank you...for all the hard work you do behind the scenes... #professor !!
Thank you for the very kind comment ! Appreciate you
Hes known as one of the best swordsman if not the best swordsman of all time.
1:15:00 Count Dooku aka Darth Tyrannus replaced Maul after Palpatine thought he died.
Guernica by Pablo Picasso is a famous anti-war painting that has an oddly striking resemblance to the mural of the Jedi and Mandalorians fighting.
and his Guernica mural
the graffiti on the wall when Maul and Sidious fought depicted the war between Mandalorians and the Jedi many moons ago, the same war that turned the surface of Mandalore into uninhabitable wasteland, which is why the cities are in those white domes
May the force be with you imon_snow team Jedi forever
Dooku took Mauls's place, then Anakin takes Dooku's place.
He was talking abt anikan
@@anasmamri2966 I know also it's anakin
1:05:03 that was the ship Anakin and Ahsoka used in the clone wars movie WAYYY back in season 1
7:08 Adi Gallia is her name.
Snow.
1:12:49 Sith make their saber crystals bleed red with the force which is the reason why most of them have red blades
1:17:24 yeah, that was the original idea, Anakin fulfilling the "chosen one" prophecy
The Mandalorian people were divided between the sheep and the warriors. The sheep would follow whoever had the most promise.
no, because Dooku is his apprentice , why the emperor wants Maul is never covered in the clone wars, it's a four-part comic they made , in short, he wants Maul for his mother , yes she is his biological mother.. you have to read the comic I'm not gonna say anything more... there's an audio comic on TH-cam they do voice acting and everything for free,, there are four parts to it you can watch it when you're done with season six
30 more episodes! Then Bad Batch?
53:56 also, it seems like there is no motivation anymore. That may increase in more homeless people or worse
1:12:46 here is is when I realized Palpatine is a sick secret box indeed.
1:16:03 I think it's the Mandalorians vs the Jedi since they have been enemies for a long time.
When Satine, is murdered; it really shows you how strong spiritually Obi Wan, is. It is a very stark contrast with how Anakin, copes with love & loss.
We don't even know what that means!"
MAUL LOSES A DIGITGRADE LEG and has to ditch his ship!
🔥 episode love the video imon Nation stay motivated Dream big 1 mill on the way
Your point about shows having a teacher, not just a TV show that shows right v wrong, moral choices, etc.
29:31 Always cracks me up
That's not Palpatine. That's Darth Sidious!!!
I wish imon_snow was in Star Wars
14:43 The clone wars takes place before Episode III and Anakin's fall to the dark side.
thoughtful reaction as always! could you consider adding the new Percy Jackson show to your list? i think its something you'd really enjoy!
So intense
But the next arc is my favorite...
But also one of the darkest and saddest arcs... The most important arc of this series, the ultimate climax.
One of the best arcs
1:12:54 Sheev Palpatine is one of the strongest Sith in existence I think
There is no scarier villain than Palpatine. Just pure rage. He could have killed Maul and Savage without even using a lightsaber. That battle was simply to entertain himself after such a long journey to Mandalor and to spank his old apprentice.
Hondo is the greatest character in Star Wars
1:00:19 I think he was the voice of Palpatine.
11:21 they are real but the magic enhances them
One of the best arcs!
You’ll find that Clone Wars vibe again in The Bad Batch (which is a Clone Wars sequels) however i would still suggest u to watch Rebels first 👍
Rebels is old school fun Star Wars - and the greatest thing in the entire franchise outside of Empire Strikes Back.
My favourite arc
My personal favorite arc 😈
Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi
React to Frieren
❤
They always putting obi wan through the worst 😭
So gonna assume you haven't watched the prequel movies then. Highly recommend you watch them before the end of the series, and Sidious was toying with them from the start. He could have just started frying them with Lightning after he pinned them to the wall at the start but he let them fight him to show his superiority.
❤❤
Exited squealing!!!
😍😍😍🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Satine was a necessary death that we all saw coming let’s be real her character got dull and it was time for her to go and she was also so annoying
