We started at this place while we were in college for engineering, I was in community college and a local school for as cheap as I could get an engineering degree, she went to a big name 4 year school. She literally told me yesterday her student loan payments just hit and SHE CAN'T EVEN AFFORD THEM, so she will be deferring them. We have the EXACT SAME DEGREE and very similar job positions. Glad I paid cash for community college! LOL

I’m an engineer and did the same approach as you. It baffles me that they sign up for these loans and act like they had no idea they would have to actually pay them some day. They also zeroed interest for several years. That was a great opportunity to knock the balance down. One of my freedoms’ daughters did that. She didn’t owe a lot (always worked, scholarship etc) but she buckled down and paid off everything before the loans started up again. With no interest everything went to the balance.

We had to delay three years to start a family to clear my husband’s debt load from college. He didn’t grow up with wise teaching like I did. We didn’t even consider trying to have kids until we were debt free except a very moderate home loan. I cut my hours when the kids were little but I never stopped working. I was usually able to pull off 32 hours a week so it was still pretty good income.

Neither one of those jobs required a degree that cost $100k each. Might not have needed a degree at all. She could have had a kid and stayed at home for free. She also would have made more money at Costco than as a receptionist.

Legit asking here. We've seen it time and time again. How do you coach your daughters? Of course you want them to have options, be able to support themselves, and not get stuck in a bad situation due to dependency, but racking up a giant stack of student loans just to spend a signigicant portion of their earning years as SAHM seems almost equally detrimental.

What’s the point of getting a degree that cost that much debt to just have babies immediately and not clean up what you did, before starting a family. I know babies are blessings but this story sounds like it could become a nightmare

There is a better way to pay loans than from smallest to highest which is to sort the loans by interest and pay minimum required for all except pay as much as possible to the loan with the highest interest. Once that is paid off, pay as much as possible to the loan with next highest interest. Don't know why the never mention this - or I may find the reason if I am a little cynical about it.

No kidding I choose to live below my take home. The amount off the top goes to debt. I'll be completely free in at most 30 months. I am currently applying for every part-time job in my area. That will go straight to debt. If I can get one, that will take that 30 down considerably. I am single and have no plans to be in a relationship with a financially irresponsible person.

Woman please listen up - don't go into college/university and spend over $300k to get a degree you have NO DESIRE to use if you are going to be a housewife or a mother who stays home !! Its a waste of money and you HAVE to pay it back !! Just get a regular job that doesn't require a degree or spendings thousands and thousands of dollars for something you have no desire to get into !!

A lot of young people (including myself) don’t think about the possibility of having a family and what that means prior to taking out these student loans.
Now, some of us go too far like the couple calling in because why did his wife take out a 100k loan to only make 45k a year prior to having children? Now the children are born and she makes $0. That makes absolutely no sense. She needs to find a remote job if she wants to be home. This is a mess!

How do I pay off my debt?
My wife is a stay at home mom and she has debt as well.
    This is simple
Your wife isn’t working so that’s why she still has debt
And that’s why you still have debt…
These are old peoples talking about how to get out of debt…
When the ribbons and balloons are over with…
When the kids aren’t as cute anymore…
    When college isn’t cute anymore…
    When life gets realer…lol
I am 29yrs old debt free and I enjoy every single second of being debt free
    Y’all enjoy y’all’s loans!!
I’ll never take out another loan unless it’s for an e-bike lol they pay for themselves 😂

People is already the plural form of the word person. The only reason to add a s to the word people as if you're talking about possessive tents such as more than one person's Act of owning something
