Grazie Julia!

      All the instrumentalists have an open space to express explicitly their point of view about music, but their capacity for expression depends on their skils, imagination, and sensitivity.
      I really admire M. Quarta.
      Thank you too!

    i believe Quarta is the greatest living proponent of Paganini's music. with all due respect to Szeryng, Gulli, Grumiaux, Ricci, Accardo, etc, i think Quarta's recordings of the 6 concertos is *the* reference recording. Paganini would have been proud.

    I very much like his use of the same fingers in some of his thirds...rather than going 2/4-1/3, he just slides down and up...very nice effect and more Italian of expression,e.g, lyrical like the human voice. What a privilege to be able to play Paganini's violin in his original compositions. Can't say enough. Bravo Maestro Quarta.

    Had his concertos for 3 yrs now. Massimo Quarta on Paganini is like Glenn Gould on Bach. Even the sniffing reminds me of Gould's humming.

      Well this is very Wrong - he adds here tones to the music in order to feel secure, takes tones a way also because of that.

    The second movement is probably the most beautiful and moving music, he ever wrote. And he added a heart to this movement. So he must have been in love. He was at that time in Frankfurt. And as I know he never played it in public. The first recording btw was made by Arthur Grumiaux, which is also wonderfully played.

      i was just listening to an interview with Ricci, made prior to a performance that evening of the #4 concerto. according to Ricci, Paganini first played this piece in Germany, with Spohr conducting. then later, traveled to Paris, played it there, but told the Paris audience that he had written it for them! a couple other tidbits from the interview - Grumiaux first played it after Paganini, with the conductor who was the son of an Italian book collector who bought the solo score as part of a collection once owned by Bottesini. then a Russian violinist copied the whole thing down from listening to the Grumiaux recording, he gave it to Menuhin, who never played it, and eventually Menuhin gave a copy of that score to Ricci.

    • @manfred4766
      @manfred4766 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@cornel999 Thank you for these new informations. But what I doubt is, that Spohr conducted his performance. They were no friends after Spohr criticised Paganinis play. He didn´t like the flageolets and the outboarding technical amount of difficulties. And Neill in his very deep studies about Paganini didn´t mention something like that. If you had written that Guhr, the Frankfurt concertmaster, conducted, I would not be surprised. But : at the concerts of Paganini, there was no conductor AT ALL. He conducted his concerts himself and gave the impulses by his right ? foot, bouncing on the floor.

      Im going to stick my neck out, albeit, with some scientific support. Medical reports indicate that Paganini's fingers were double jointed, not to mention that his hands were described "as strong as iron cudgels." I think this gave him the ability to use vibrato, and other expressive devices in a manner no violinist before or since was able to. Super vibrato on any or all fingers , if you will, produced the results that made ladies swoon, and fellow musicians cry out in unrestrained admiration.I think his physical abnormalities also lended themselves to other feats with the right hand. Thats my conclusion.
