Hi Everyone and Welcome Back to My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing project.
This week I am once again ignoring the suggested fabrics list and using stretch velvet for this retro reprint Vogue Pattern. This allows for me to omit a zipper. The fabric itself is a bit tricky and has to be handled differently, but still not as hard to do as you might think at first.
I hope you like it!
~Marie

This woman is faboulous. I see that there are a lot of views but not many likes. Please reward her for her great work. She gets a better payday if she gets more likes. I costs you nothing. She does such a great job, reward her.
Thank you!!!
The choice of fabric was absolutely spot on
Using stretch fabric is certainly out-of-the-box. It turned out beautifully.
Love the colour. Hope your mum enjoyed wearing it. X
It IS a fabulous dress! Hope your mom loves it.
I have used the same stretch velvet in my role as Mrs Santa Claus. I also make Santa’s suits..I am delighted with the fabric and find that it is even machine washable and doesn’t fade into the white fur.. Thankou for sharing your talent.
The fabric is beautiful. I appreciate your input!!
That is so beautiful on you - great color! Thank you for all the great directions, tips and explanations 👏
Love the dress, the color is beautiful.
The colour is beautiful on you and I love the finished dress!
Very pretty ❤ I'm sure your momma will love it.
Thank you so much for this!
I enjoy your videos so much and this pattern, THIS!!!
Love the finish dress the color is so pretty
I think this is a fine style for an older lady, which I assume your mother is. The cape gives it a lovely dressy look with freedom of movement while covering up old arms. If you had made it for yourself I think it would need to be at least one size smaller. There are many great tips in this episode for sewing with stretch and napped fabrics. I always look forward to Friday to see what you will be doing next!
I love this dress. After seeing the final product I think it may not even need a zipper if you are not using a stretch fabric. The head opening is large enough. Thanks for all your tips about stretch fabrics.
Love your intro duet.
I love the iris adorned sewing machine cover case....(iris is my favorite flower for uhm obvious reasons...😊)
Hi Marie. That is lovely. Your Mum will be really pleased with the dress. Take care.
Your mother will love her new dress!
It's stunning! I don't know where you would wear it but you did an amazing job
Very nice 😊
That came out real pretty.
You weren't kidding! It really IS a fabulous dress! Stunning.
Love the garment style and fabric choice. Great advice about potential sewing pitfalls.
Wow what amazing dress
You look brillant x
A lovely vlog - thank you Marie! Your mum is going to be thrilled with her lovely new dress. That colour is fabulous on you! 💕😀💕
That color is stunning on you. Loved this video because I used a purple stretch velvet to make a very voluminous cape for Halloween years ago and vowed I would never use that fabric again. I have never had good stitching with a ball point needle it would catch a thread and snag it thru the fabric.
it looks very nice. I can see someone wearing it at a wedding
Absolutely lovely dress ❤ I think your mum will look amazing in it
I adore that! Looks like a wonderful tea dress.
I love the color! You were right about sizing down. I think that if you decided to do the belt it would look beautiful if it were a contrasting silk or satin. I keep picturing a white or cream silk with a big green and rust colored floral print for the belt. Or just a deep green or something. I get so nervous about sewing velvet but your seams look beautiful!
Thanks Jen! I love your ideas for the belt. Definitely passing those on. 😊
Very pretty dress! Great fabric choice!
Oh, pretty! I admit I wasn't sure about this at the start. ;) A crushed velvet would be cool!
Looks great! Love your videos😊
Beautiful!!
Marie I think you could make a sows ear out of a silk purse. I love it ❤❤
Love it!😊😊😊
That looks like a 14 could have been used, it is roomy. Pretty and roomy. I am wondering what would happen if the neck line was higher, or even cut like a normal neck line.
Love this dress and your video. I just purchased a matte jersey to make this in. Can you give some suggestions for adding an elbow length sleeve under the cape?
The Cape pretty much acts like a sleeve. Maybe try a mock up first because you might change your mind about sleeves.
As roomy as it is , do you think you'd still need a zipper if you made it out of say rayon?
I don't think you do. I would skip the zipper if it was me 😊
